Life of Riley: Former Temple City quarterback and current San Marino JV HC Riley Saxon hangs with good friend Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens.

Kick It!

If I hadn’t reactivated my personal Twitter account the other day, I would have missed this.“In the midst of all peyton manning had going on..he mailed a hand written note of sympathy to my home last week when my son lost his life..”—Fox Sports’ Chris Myers tweeted yesterday after Manning’s press conference. His 19 year old son was killed last week in a car accident.

First Add Mt. View: The Vikings have the most rabid football fan base no one knows about. They are looking for any excuse/reason to support this team. I’m not saying they will be knocking heads with Monrovia anytime soon, but once they get the arithmetic figured out View can be an annual factor in the Mission Valley League

Just a hunch, but I don’t think USC is going to get a call from the NIT this weekend.

The Good News for the Rio Hondo League: Monrovia loses both of its starting offensive tackles to graduation this June.

So basically parents now, at least some in Temple City, not only want their kids to get a trophy for “participation” but apparently don’t want them to do any running or push ups for missing a practice or goofing off.

True (Star News and KFI have reported on this) and Temple City Parks & Rec is now dealing with this issue. It’s not enough to deal with budget cuts, psychopaths, drug dealers and all the depraved that gravitate to and ruin our parks…but now it has to be concerned about its sports groups using forms of discipline that “may” rob the joy of sports from children…

The Parks & Rec board recently shot down a proposal made by a parent to include wording in agreements for athletic programs that would “ensure that participants are not subject to emotional, physical, verbal or sexual abuse, including the use of any form of physical activity as punishment, during the course of any activity on a city facility.”

Note to Everyone: In youth sports when someone says all they care about and are there for is “the kids”…Be assured 90 percent of the time, they are not.

Nebraska has made an official offer to La Mirada linebacker Tyler Luatua (6-4, 215), who will be a junior next fall. He joins freshman quarterback Kevin Dillman (6-4, 205) and junior middle linebacker Koa Kaleopaa (6-3, 250)…who have received multiple offers from D-I schools.

Maybe moving West Covina out of the Southeast Division isn’t such a good idea after all.

As was slapped up in a comment on our board, Mt. View is starting over in its search for a head football coach. One source called the situation a “mess”…Another said they are looking for an outside person to take the gig.

The Bad News for the Rio Hondo League: Monrovia has four offensive linemen, who weren’t starters 2011 but saw a lot of post-season action, returning. Avonte Moore (Soph, LT, 6-1 245), Gage Buonsanti (Soph, C, 5-10 220), Erik Brooks (Soph, RG, 6-2 255), and Adrian Maldonado (Soph, LG).

Must be nice to be Riley Saxon these days.

The Dude abides…
