Gotta agree with your thoughts regarding the timing and definition of “success”. Some schools start the day off loaded with talent, but most have only a sprinkling. Their “success” hinges on building from within and truly coaching, strengthening and preparing their roster to compete hard and hopefully getting a share of “W”s solely by way of “out-efforting” their opponents. Drill and teach where you need to be in a given situation, and how to get your ass there in the first place. In passing leagues, this amounts to secondary and rotations and closing on a thrown football. The things you hope your young DB’s and safeties take away from the passing league experience.
If they get this and lose every game of passing league getting it – then it is worth it. That one pick or pass deflection on the goal line in November could have very well come from the confidences or experiences playing in their underwear way back in June.
Seeing kids take a beating – and bounce back to shine later in the season is one true joy of prep football. It is a real message to kids , that by being relentless and working hard you can prevail against a bigger, stronger opponent. You might get bloodied, but your effort will bring teammate respect and coaches praise – and sometimes that is more important than the W itself in building a quality young person.

IMO: SEM, WC, Maranantha, Bonita look to have proper throwing mechanics. As for the just kids comment, the minute a newspaper decides to give them exposure they no longer become just kids. Those times have indeed PASSED!
Joe Namath’s mechanics are beautiful. From the grip with his index finger and thumb placement, his cocked wrist, his elbow elevation to zero position, through the extension. He has perfect throwing mechanics. Last I checked, the shape of a football has not changed nor has the mechanics that are necessary to throw a spiral with the nose of the ball up through that window. I’m not sure who you think has perfect mechanics, but if you look at Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Manning, and Namath they all get to those positions. I’m sure your not just talking out of your realA%#!

High Fan you are exactly right. Half the teams are trying to win at all costs and the smart teams are looking at players, working on timing, seeing who the real athletes are on their teams, Why else would you have teams wrapping up and tackling with no pads, risking injury, for what? Why are teams getting in fist fights acting like knuckleheads? And who actually believes Monrovia was the third best team out there? The smart coaches are using these passing leagues and lineman competitions as training aids. Because bragging rights only matter at the end of the season.

I have not read that Bonita has done well in these tournaments but do they have two qbs that would probably start for any of these teams in these games or what? Obviously some teams are focused on winning these events and others are using them to look at their entire team and work on some stuff that may or may not be successful.
