(Alhambra)- “I’m ready to go,” says Alhambra HC Joe Kanach. “We’re excited about what we got.”
A spring and summer of change have left the local football community talking more about what’s going on at Alhambra than who will be going on the field. Gone are Lou Torres, Jacob Ochoa, Jonathan Mendoza, Nathan Quinones, and Essien Frank (Recently transfered to Pasadena). However there was no looking back on Saturday when the team scrimmaged. It was hot, they had fun, but this team seems to be getting chippy about getting on the field and putting the offseason to bed.

@ schurr alumni awhh the subtle difference between dwelling and being consumed with the past is not so subtle with you. And I am disappointed that you couldn’t answer a simple question. I hope you realize the ring on your finger does not equate to a brain in your skull. There is only one Homer I can relate to… he is quite epic. ( I bet you don’t understand that pun.) Now I can admit when I am wrong: Alhambra has beaten schurr within this decade more than once. But only once on your precious dirt hill. However it has been brought to my attention that the year you so gloriously won c.i.f. the one team you failed to beat was, well alhambra. It was not even close: 55-20, i believe. Seems like someone has unfinished business. Letting the past consume you is not good. Move on. When life gives you bad luck, you cannot always say ” I won c.i.f. in 2006.” Now i pose a new question- its simple and fact based so you will not have to think hard: what was the score of the championship game that year… and who did you play? Just curious.
Oh and please turn off caps lock- no need to shout.
@ actual player the answer is!!!! you’re still coming on here blogging when you supposed to be getting ready for a game!!! hello MCFLY YOUR SHOES UNTIED HAHAHAHAHA LOL. OR SHALL I SAY UHHH DID I DO THAT!!!! OR SHALL I SING THE SONG TO YOU LOVE AND MARRIAGE , LOVE AND MARRIAGE HAHA YOU EVER HEARD OF AL BUNDY, OR DOES “HOMER” COME TO MIND LMAO!!!! BTW WHEN YOU WIN A C.I.F. CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! YOU CAN BE 80 YRS OLD AND STILL YOU WILL REMEMBER THE PAST AND DWELL IN IT , YES INDEED. SOMETHING YOU MY FRIEND WILL NEVER KNOW ABOUT HAHAHAHAHAHA GO SPARTANS!!!!
@schurr alumni I hope you realize the more you post the more you illustrate your complete lack of common decency and thick skull. @ all this over some pics that was exactly what i was going to post. Now back to schurr alumni… your right (for once)… i am going to stop blogging, but not because i am unfocussed, but because you are not worth my time. You obviously cannot see that you are living in the past. You havent changed in six years and you wish you could go back to high school. So actually thank you… i will savor my high school years more so that i do not wish i can go back and i will always look ahead to my future successes not be stuck on past successes. I just want to pose one last question: how am i an ignorant, stupid, idiot? Just curious.
@ ALL THIS OVER SOME PICS!!!!! OK LOMBARDI!!!!! HAHAHAHA, AS FOR THE 6 YRS SO WHAT, WE WON THE C.I.F. CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! WHERE YOU AT??????? LOL
6 years ago schurr alumni,6 years ago! You should get up off your mamas couch quit your job as a stock boy for office depot go back to school and become a big boy and move on with life. Alhambra better realize they need to bring it every game. By no means are they perfect but they play well together and that’s how teams win games. Not to mention the kids are stronger both physically and mentally and they have a lot of varsity experience. Remember Alhambra you only get out what you put in. Work hard play hard!
@ big bad a-town we went 3-7 last yr, but we won c.i.f. championship in 2006!!! when did alhambra win the c.i.f. championship!!! answer you were not even a thought back then lmao!!!!! @ actual player you’re just a complete idiot!!!!! ignorant and stupid, you make homer simpson look like einstein!!!!. you wanna know why you wont say anything about shurr!!! is because we own alhambra!!!!! lmao, you guys are weak!!!!. i feel sorry for those football players having to deal with those parents and coaches!!!! you’re a complete mess!!!! just focus on mountain view!!! and get off these blogs, i did my time went away with a c.i.f. ring!!! i can blog all i want, as for you, worry about your 2012 season!!! if not you may just miss the playoffs moron!!!
@schurr alumni Im sorry i just ealized i put my last post as anonymous. It was me. Now im glad I have clearly won this arguement. You know why? Because you consistantly are a hypocrite and do not even realize it. Its kinda sad actually. You claim that you sources are alhambra parents, yet you claimed earlier that our fans do not know anything about football. Hmm… interesting information. Also you use these pictures to emphasize the lacking our team has. However your pictures only have a bunch of standing around. Now i know a schurr practice does not just consist of standing around… pictures do not tell the whole story. You should know that, but it seems i assume your intelligence too much. Lastly you claim no one is affraid of a-town. Hah! You post more then ten comments on our article but no your not affraid. If you havent noticed i have not said a bad word about schurr, just you. Schurr comes out every year with a good football team and i respect that. You have truly showed your class here. So please just stop. Your repetition of lacklustre opinions is getting highly annoying.
@schurr alumni
Ayy come up with a better comeback, you got nothing else to say so i suggest you STFU already. & at least we didnt go 3-7 like you guys. Lmao
@ BIG BAD A-TOWN!!! YOU MUST BE FROM THE GHETTO!!! BIG BAD A-TOWN HAHAHA LOL NOBODY IS SCARED OF THE CITY OF ALHAMBRA LOL BIG BAD A TOWN HAHA TOO FUNNY. @ ANONYMOUS SOURCES COMING FROM YOUR OWN FANS SPECIFICALLY A FEW PARENTS!!!! BTW FROM THE LOOKS OF THESE PICTURES, PLEASE ALHAMBRA GOES 5-5 AND WONT BE SURPRISED IF THEY WIN LESS. GO SPARTANS!!!!!!
ALHAMBRA SUCKS!!!!!!!! GO SPARTANS!!!!!!!!! ALHAMBRA AND THEIR WEAK YOUTH FOOTBALL COACHES!!!!!
@ Schurr alumni Am I the idiot when you spell hypocrisy with an i or use the nonexistent word ain’t. And you obviously do not understand a common metaphor such as ace in the whole. I have been to coach oliva’s football camps and have been to coach kanach’s practices… you have no understanding of what a practice should be until you have gone to both. As for your fans’ class, i will never say a negative word because as much as i dislike schurr their fans are proud to be fans no matter if the team goes 3-7. But for you to claim that are fans cry you are ridiculous. And if i am not mistaken we did move on and go on to beat the rest of the montebello teams. Now if our staff was good last year how is our staff pop warner this year if the coaches are the same minus three? And please stop using the word “heard” because obviously you have wrong sources. Now i hope trying to pick on teams has boosted your low self-esteem because you only dwell in the past. As for me, i can step on the field and play… and i have a bright future. I hope this has been your beat down.
@ salesian you happened to beat us by one touch down, how is that what you call a “Smash”? @schurr almuni show some class, we will when we play schurr and the rest of the almont league this year. just believe when we step out onto the field this season, it will be with high intensity and heart. we will be looking for good competition to face us. we are a sound team, with a sound offense and a vigorous defense, with outstanding coaches as our leaders, and the support of our parents, our fellow student body, and all the fans of Alhambra.
A message to the Almont League, be ready, were working for Almont League, and a chance to compete again for CIF.
@schurr alumni
Its funny how you come to our pics and talk crap. Get a life and grow up you already graduated right. Your just mad cus we bet you at ur house and will beat you at our house again this year.
Moorss !!!!
@ actual player, you are a complete idiot!!!! why are you calling coach kanach and oliva ace in the holes , i hope you dont mean “a-holes” lol. as for not beating us in a decade, do you know that’s 10 yrs you idiot!!! you guys beat us at least twice in 10 yrs and only once on our hill in the last 10 yrs by your great coaching staff you guys had last yr , but that’s going to be over we will run the almont!!!. as for your comment on hipocrosy our fans have class as well as our coaching staffs we try to accomplish championship goals!!! so if we beat you guys once in a decade we would celebrate normal and move on to our next game with a championship of the almont on the line!!! but your fans cry!!!, they think they know football but dont, and now i heard you have pop warner coaches to coach that varsity team, kanach can only do so much he aint no “lombardi” and he certainly aint concord de la salle coach “bob l”. and as for the coaches that came back that beleive hahaha, they must beleive in SANTA CLAUS!!!!!. and i promise you come october ALHAMBRA WILL BOW DOWN!!!!! ON YOUR KNEES!!!! WE WILL DROP YOU LIKE A BAD HABIT!!!!
@schurr alumni You have shown yourself to be a hypocrite. You say that passing tournaments do not mean anything; you give as much support to the importance of lineman challenges. But you claim that the moors do not have a passing game or lineman- how would you know this? And please do not insult my intelligence by saying that you can gage the moors strengths by the inter team scrimmage. If you know as much about football as you say you do, then you would know that everyday a team gets better. So the team in those pictures will not be the same team that beats schurr in october. Now to your non-personal comments about alhambra’s “garbage” fans: your hypocrisy runs rapid when you claim that the fans are garbage because they celebrated. It is a game that contains high emotions; when a team that hasn’t beaten a rival in a decade finally wins, celebration will occur. If you do not understand that you are only a sore looser. Play along… if you were in alhambra’s shoes last year you cannot say that you wouldn’t have celebrated. And for your opinion on the coaching staff, all i can say is that kanach is an ace in the hole just as coach oliva is at sg. He can build up a team and a coaching staff. And all of the coaches that needed to return have returned because they believe in the team and the new program. And i can dish out and take a lot… but i cannot take ignorance.
@actual player
Amen to what you said.
@ actual player i call it HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHA!!!!. passing tourneys dont mean squat!!! you should know that by now also for lineman competitions dont mean squat, it’s all about putting on the pads and battle it out in the trenches. as for degrading the parents/coaches lol, i’m just keeping it real!!! dont have anything personal with no parent or coaches their but when i say they are garbage!!!! it’s because last yr was a perfect example, in our home on the hill you guys came down and just because you won 18-8 you guys all including parents and coaches started jumping up and down and acting stupid like if you guys had won the c.i.f. championship!!! where was the CLASS!!!! then. so if you like to dish it out, then expect to take it like a man and stop crying!!!! SPARTAN BEATDOWN COMING AT YOU SOON!!!!!
@HP, yes Coach Torres is back at Glendale. He is on the offense, so my guys go against him every day, and the D is still dominating his offense. (You can print that Tim Peterson!) We also brought Coach McKay on board, who is the best OC I know. He has helped the offense tremendously already.
As for Mt. Sac, they are light years ahead, and recruit nationally. Glendale won just 1 game last season and gave up nearly 40 pts a game, so it is a complete rebuild on D, with a whole new staff. Former NFL player, Coach Turner is running the D, (he played with Troy Aikman at UCLA) our D line and LB coaches came from State champion Servite High. Expectations are high on Defense! The goal is 17 points per game or less allowed, compete with Santa Monica and West L.A. for the conference, and play a bowl game. It all starts with Compton College Sept 1. Coach Ochoa
GO VAQS!
@ hp hahaha lol you old faithful!!! i like that, way to stay by your team and coach kanach. that’s why you interview!!!! hello hahaha. if i were a coach that’s the 1st thing i’d do if i didn’t know anyone in the area. you check backround, any type of awards as a player or coach, and the charachter, the personality, find out if they have love for the game, a indian and not a chief!!!! a team player!!! not to be in the coaching staff for themselves as self promotion as to care for themselves and not the team. moreover you dont want to hire any parents that have kids playing on that team, it creates lots of favortism and last as a coach i’d give a test in my office to see what they know about x’s and o’s and then determine if they are the ones for the job!!!! GO SPARTANS!!!!
@schurr alumni have you personally been in the weightroom or on the field with the alhambra offensive line? You constantly refer to Caraveo as the one big guy on the offensive line and no one else. The line is pure seniors and is returning four starters that missed placing at the arroyo lineman tournament by a point… but sure there is no offensive line. As for the offensive, like everything in football, it is all about execution. And I would say going to the semifinals in two different passing tournaments- and barely losing to Serra in one- speaks for itself. Call it hype or call it dedication; but do not degrade the parents, coaches, and especially the players. Show some class now that your time has passed.
A good head coach or leader will have people following them, just like the Vaqs so that should answer why their is no coaches over there. If has does anything its because the boys got together way before hand. Go Spartans
@SCHURR ALUMNI I understand what u are saying but he did not coach in this area so it’s hard to but a great staff together when u don’t know many people in the area and people not supporting the fomer coaches so it made it impossible to hold over any of them. I still think the make playoffs in the new mid valley cause the almont is back 3 automatic beths correct if am wrong.
@ HP, sounds like i’m hearing excuses now. any coach that comes in to a program should be organized and have a staff ready. if not then you get on the ball and start interviewing!!!! because when it’s all said and done, it falls on the head coach. as for the spread offense , we shall see!!! i truly believe that qb they got is below average, the offensive line play is below average, they will have to rely on the defense with that 1 big kid they got. when that team starts losing during the season, i want to see all the pointing of fingers and self destruction by the coaching staff to the players in a domino effect. then i can hear the excuses again, well our lb transferred out, our qb transferred out etc etc etc!!!!!. @ COACH O!!!! I’VE SEEN YOUR COMMENTS ON HERE AND I FEEL FOR YOU, SOUNDS TO ME LIKE LOTS OF ENVY!!! AND BTW GREAT JOB AS A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR, YOU PRETTY MUCH SHUT US DOWN LAST YR!!!! BUT THIS YR NEW DEF COORD AND HEAD COACH , WE GOT THEM RIGHT WHERE WE WANT THEM
@SCHURR ALUMNI I think the spread is a good offense for Alhambras talent and Kanach dames to know the x and o of the game. As for as the coaches maybe he did not have time to hire his people and had to hire backups
@coach O I respect that good luck at Glendale college is Torres coaching there with u? How long till u guys are at battling with mt.sac to go to the state title game?
@ hp this is funny, i heard they have pop warner coaches coaching the alhambra varsity lol!!!! with the exception of kanach!!!. and running a spread offense at alhambra hahaha lmao!!! only san gabriel can do that. btw i hear your passing game is awful from the passing tourneys and no offensive line, but 1 big kid. SCHURR!!!! THIS WILL BE REVENGE!!!!! TIME AT THE MOORHOUSE!!!! “THE BEATDOWN” COMING SOON. PS “GENERAL ADMISSION” $7
@ Hp, not that it is anyone’s business, but to clarify: I did apply for the head job and all I will say is that it was an administration/school board issue and I declined the second interview because I had taken the job at Glendale College. I have no ill feelings towards the current coaching staff and especially my former players. I have put three years of hard work into that team, and the players should know I am rooting for their success. My mind is on Compton College and Alhambra’s should be on Mountain View and the EXTREMELY tough Almont league. I will welcome all of my former Moors players at Glendale College. Coach Ochoa
GO VAQS!!!
who are the new coaches at alhambra besides Kanach
First of all I dont know where you are getting your info that its me, but I will be at the Salesian Game on Saturday as a PARENT not a coach, so if your there Ochoa or whoever I will go say hello…. Whoever is talking smack should stop! Last years team was great and it will be a challenge for this years team… But it could be done and better, the talent is there Im sure you will agree Ochoa.
@coach O one question if u did such a good job as the defense coach which the numbers do show u did a good job. why did u get passed up for the head job?
@moors…part 2….I will make it even easier on you COACH, and yes I know where the talking is coming from…. we can start with Mountain View, since the defensive coaches keep blasting how much better this Defense will be and trashing myself and Torres…. The standard is 3 defensive touchdowns scored, 1 by int, 1 by fumble recovery and 1 by punt return (should have been 4 but the refs took a fumble return away on a bizarre call)…108 total yards allowed, 6 PASSING YARDS, and a shutout…they scored 6 points because I was ordered by the coach to put in the backups and call off the dogs. I will take the whole coaching staff out if that happens. of those 11 starters last year, 7 of them wouldnt have started for another playoff team, yet 6 were voted by other coaches as all league selections…. it was the system that i put most of my adult life into perfecting that I stand behind. and again…game 1 is coming….we shall see……
for those that havent seen or just going by what they heard, you can see some of the highlights from the D, including that game http://www.hudl.com/team/15054/#highlights/3972142
now get your parents and coaches focused on where it should be on trying to better one of the best seasons Alhambra has ever had, and not on myself and Torres. Coach Ochoa …GO VAQS!
@ ALRIGHT ALMONT!!!!! I AGREE WITH YOU, A BEATDOWN IS COMING TO ALHAMBRA!!! HAHAHA SCHURR WILL RUN THE ALMONT THIS YR. ALHAMBRA IS ALL ABOUT THEY HYPE, PARENTS AND COACHES ARE ALL GARBAGE!!!!!!. THEY GOT LUCKY LAST YR WITH US AND MONTEBELLO AND BELL GARDENS ALL SUPER CLOSE GAMES. THAT’S THE BEST ALHAMBRA TEAM I’VE SEEN IN OVER 8 YRS AND STILL DIDN’T WIN THE LEAGUE TITLE. ONLY CREDIT I GIVE ALHAMBRA IS FOR BEING GOOD AT SWEEPING THE MONTEBELLO SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOLS. AND FOR BEATING US UP ON OUR HILL, SOMETHING THAT SCHOOL COULDN’T DO IN OVER 10YRS. NEVER WILL YOU SEE AN ALHAMBRA TEAM AS GOOD AS LAST YRS!!! WITH LUCK HAHA. COME ON OUT FOLKS FOR THE BEATDOWN AT ALHAMBRA “CANT WAIT”
Moors or Eddie or whoever you are. I am Coach Ochoa and never have hid under another alias or anonymous. I also will not be hiding at the league games for Alhambra this year and possibly even Saturday at Salesian. I will be around if you want to come say hello. As for my work as a coach and coordinator, I stand behind it with pride. The BEST defense in the Almont last year, possibly the best ever at Alhambra. The numbers speak for themselves. 32 sacks, 31 takeaways, 19 pts per game allowed, (that includes all the points scored on our offense and special teams) 104 passing yards allowed per game, 121 rushing, 6 of the 11 starters named All-Almont league selections, including the Defensive MVP of the league. These are numbers that I dont believe have ever happened at Alhambra previously and may not be repeated any time soon. If this year’s team is able to put up those kinds of numbers, going 9-3 and reaching the quarterfinals or betters them, I will take you to a steak and lobster dinner! I am not betting against the coaches or players, but rather trust in my hard work, dedication and commitment to the players and program that got me to where I am. Doing well at Glendale college at the next level. And oh by the way for all the knocks on Torres and myself, 6 players from Alhambra followed us to Glendale this season. So we must have done something right last season. Ps, the same negatives were spoken about Reudaflores and his family before Torres and they are doing just great at PCC as well. I would look at those in charge of making the decision to remove quality coaches as the problem for Alhambra’s underachievement . As other parents have said in support, we shall see how this season and league will turn out. One thing is certain, I will be there to watch and support my players that I have developed since their sophomore years! Go Vaqs! Coach Ochoa
@Moores- I am not Coach Ochoa, I can’t even pretend to know much about football. It certainly sounds like you have a lot of issues with anger. It also seems as though you know him personally and maybe have some grudge with him, but that’s none of my business. I’ve always said Men are just as bad as little girls when it comes to talking behind each others back. All I know is that I was at the games, I knew the coaches, and I know how much us parents liked and respected them. I haven’t said a negative thing about the new staff or team…. all I will say again is…..we will see.
When the moors step on the field this year the work will show for it’s self. Adversity is what the moors feed on. And a three week dead period gave the moors time strengthen their bodies… coach kanach taught enough football before hand. Salesian, the almont league, and the mid-valley will face a different smarter team this year. So let the talking be done on the field.
Didn’t Alhambra choose to hire Torres over coach Jude Oliva and then jones steped down and Jude Oliva became head coach at sg. I think the Alhambra admin saw there misstake and decided to get a Jude Oliva type coach to coach the moors. Am interested to see Alhambra ran the spread offense.
Eddie go easy on Ochoa!!
@Moors “you guys are back biting on a blog” I could just imagine what takes place in public. Not one of you so called fans have Thanked Ochoa nor Torres for putting up with the mess from the district and yet still laying a decent foundation for the new coach. As far as the young men that have left, Alhambra is not concerned about losing students but losing football players. And if they were so smart over there “Franks” was the biggest weapon they had literally. These poor boys are not in shape over there with a 3 week dead period, come on SCHURR IS SMASHING in Almont !!!
@ MOM NO MORE, ( COACH OCHOA )
OK YOU DIDNT GET FIRED BUT YOU AND TORRES WHERE NOT WANTED BACK BY THE ADMINISTRATION, AND PLAYERS. YES WE LOST MENDOZA! BUT NOT BECAUSE OF THE NEW COACHING STAFF HE LEFT BECAUSE TORRES SCREWED HIM UP LAST YEAR, QUINONEZ LEFT BECAUSE HE MOVED TO ONTARIO AND ESSIAN (WHO CARES)! IF YOU WOULD OF STAYED HALF OF THAT TEAM WOULD OF TRANSFERED… YOU SUCK AS A COACH!!! AND YOU ALWAYS WILL, BEACAUSE YOU NEVER STEPPED ON A VARSITY FOOTBALL FIELD AS A PLAYER. SO STOP LIEING…
THE MOORS HAVE A BIG CHALLENGE AHEAD OF THEM, BUT THEY WILL BE FINE, THEY WILL BE IN EVERY GAME TO WIN…..
@ MIDVALLEY SPORTS
WHY DIDNT YOU POST MY LAST BLOG?!
MVS Staff: Not sure why your last comment didn’t get posted. Send it again and we will do our best to post it!
Coach Ochoa and Torres were NOT fired……they left behind a great foundation for the new coach to work with. Some of the kids gone are due to parents not liking the change in coaching staff. All I’m going to say about how horrible or great anyone thinks they look is ……we will see.
Scrimmage last year we smashed them and there two great players they lost
ALHAMBRA SUCKS!! that coach kanach aint going to do a damn thing but go -5-5
@Salesian
You guys took it to us in a passing game. Where and at what time do you guys play Alhambra. They are in for a real beating.
Why are so many players transferring from Alhambra
Thete gonna play us were gonna smash on them like we did last year
Alhambara…is going to be good. They look good in these pictures. I think they may be able to hang with San Dimas for sure.
Who they play saturday?
What was wrong with Ochoa and torres?
All off season since Ochoa and Torres were fired, these kids have worked extremely hard.. They have a really good coach in Kanach that motivates them to another level that I havent seeing at Alhambra High.. They have lost 2 key players in Mendoza and Quinones. They will miss those 2…. I dont care what any body says but this team is better than last years team… so lets see come this Saturday..
But man are we glad Ocoa and Torres are gone…..
