Wilson Wins in Zavala’s Debut

By Lawrence Sellers

(La Habra) – Wilson overcame a 13 point deficit with 28 consecutive points and went on to beat Sonora 28-13 Friday night in Brian Zavala’s debut as Head Coach. It was the Wildcats first victory since November 16, 2007 when they beat Mayfair 21-13 in the first round of the CIF Playoffs.

Moses Vega led the Wildcat charge rushing for 75 yards on 18 carries including touchdown runs of 10 and 60 yards. After a 10 yard jaunt in the second quarter he got loose on a 60 yard scamper with just under ten minutes left in the contest to put Wilson up for good.

Daniel Siller got into the end zone as well for the Cats scoring on a 14 yard dash in the second quarter.

Enrique Vazquez scored twice for Sonora in the first quarter for the early advantage. Vazquez rumbled to pay dirt from 21 yards out with 5:57 left in the first. He then caught a three yard Derek O’Hanlon pass for a touchdown later in the first.

Wilson will host Glenn next week before traveling to Schurr in week three.
