Darius Chamberlain and the Saints will look to move back to number one.

First poll of the year: Sierra Canyon looks like they are on the road to get back to where they were in 2011 when they won the division and state titles. Two of the other top contenders in San Dimas and Paraclete both stumbled out of the gate against strong opponents. Azusa and Bell Gardens will kick off their campaigns this Friday.1.  Sierra Canyon (1-0) The Tigers offense clicked behind the play of sophomore quarterback Niko Harris and his three total touchdowns.

2.  San Dimas (0-1) Still a top two team as they are the defending Mid Valley champs and the loss was to Monrovia.

3.  Paraclete (0-1) A loss to a perennial solid program is not enough to knock the Spirits out of the top three. “We’re young and our youth showed on Friday night” commented Paraclete head coach Norm Dahlia. There’s no doubt Dahlia and staff will have this team ready come playoff time.

4.  Pomona (1-0) Head coach Aaron Jamieson and the Red Devils sent a message early that the Miramonte League title will go through Pomona.

5.  Viewpoint (1-0) Zach Chulak and the Patriots took care of a second place Nevada Southern Football League team handily.

6.  Northview (1-0) The law firm of Hooper and Cooper get the Vikings off to good start against Rosemead.

7.  Arroyo (0-1) Don’t put too much stock in the loss to San Marino. The Knights will be just fine.

8.  La Puente (1-0) Did what they needed to do by dropping 55 on the Sierra Vista Dons who are down this season.

9.  Baldwin Park (1-0) Held on for a close win over El Monte.

10.  Montebello (0-1) Will need a better showing againts top ten Northview next week to remain in the top ten.

In the mix: Azusa (0-0), Bell Gardens (0-0), Wison (1-0), Covina (0-1)
