(San Dimas) The Covina Colts had an extra point blocked and failed on a two point conversion and that was the difference as the San Dimas Saints beat the Colts 21-19 Friday night at San Dimas High School.

It was a game that had a lot riding on it. The Colts were looking to beat the Saints and set up a showdown next week with Northview for the Valle Vista League title. On the other side, the Saint s needed the win to assure a second place league finish and assure themselves a place in the post season.

San Dimas was not as precise on offense as usual turned the ball over three times but Covina was only able to capitalize on one of those turnovers. A 14-yard run by Pearnell Smalley capped off a three play 22-yard drive. The blocked extra point left the Colts trailing by one.

The teams went into halftime with the Saints leading 14-12 and that score would remain through the entire third quarter.

San Dimas scored the their final touchdown on a 29-yard run by Edward Siapno. The Saints held on to a 21-12 lead until late in the final frame.

Colt Joe Benavidez found Kevin Hynes in the endzone from 26-yards away with only :14 left on the clock. Hynes made a acrobatic catch going up between defenders to come down with the ball.

Covina was unsuccessful in recovering the onside kick and with no timeouts remaining, all San Dimas had to do was neal down one time to close out the contest.
