(La Verne) – Adrian Medrano stepped down as the head coach at Bonita Wednesday the school confirmed. Medrano is expected to be named the head coach at El Rancho by the end of the week.
Bonita sent out an e mail Wednesday to over 240 Athletic Directors in Southern California stating in part that there is an opening for the Head Varsity Football Coach position and the job will be flown on Edjoin.org within the next few days. The rest of the e mail talked about the attributes of the Bonita program and the La Verne community.
Medrano applied for the head coaching job at El Rancho, and according to sources was one of two finalists for the position as of Tuesday. He then resigned Wednesday fueling speculation that his hiring at ER is imminent.
Medrano took over for Eric Podley after the 2011 season. He was 27-18 overall in four years and 2-3 in the post season. The Bearcats went to the Central Division semi finals in 2014 before losing to Los Altos. Last year Bonita was 8-3 overall and fell in the first round to Don Lugo.
Roddy Hiatt, who took over for Vinny Lopez, resigned at El Rancho last year after just one season.
