La Mirada running back Sei-j Lauago put up numbers that jumped off the page. He rushed for 1862 yards – the most in the Southeast Division by over 400 yards.
He scored 30 touchdowns (26 rushing) and had 180 total points, both first in the division. Many times Lauago was pulled in the second half as the Matadores were routing their opponents, yet he still was the rushing leader by a landslide averaging 8.5 yards per carry.
Need a reception out of the backfield? Lauago did that too with 25 catches for 311 yards and four scores.
Lauago shined when the lights were the brightest. He rushed for 758 yards and 10 touchdowns in three playoff games including 300 and four scores in the CIF Final against La Serna. He added 350 more and four touchdowns as the Mats cruised to the State title.
There were plenty of solid candidates in the Southeast but the clear Most Valuable Player in 2015 was Sei-j Lauago.
