(Alhambra) – Aaron Sepulveda is out as the head coach at Keppel he confirmed Wednesday.

“For the record, I did not resign as Keppel’s head football coach.  I had full intention on moving forward as Keppel’s football coach for the 2016 campaign.  In early January, I met with the principal and athletic director.  They conveyed to me that they would like a football coach who is a full-time Mark Keppel staff member.  Personally, I cannot fulfill their “other direction” because I am already employed as a full-time teacher elsewhere.  The bottom line is, I would have continued to dedicate my time and energy to the Keppel football kids for as long as they’d have me as a walk on coach.  Regardless of the circumstances, I would never quit on those kids, and I did not do so in this case.  The administration at Keppel is simply going in “another direction, ” Sepulveda said.
Sepulveda spent four years as the head coach of the Aztecs taking over for Bobby Madrid before the 2012 season.
Sepulveda, although disappointed that he didn’t fulfill expectations at Keppel, was thankful for the opportunity to coach.
“I’d like to thank everyone who supported me as head football coach of Mark Keppel High School.  At Keppel, I was treated very well by the administration, welcomed warmly by the parental community, and genuinely supported by its student-athletes.  I deeply care for the growth and well-being of Keppel football players.  For the few Keppel kids who do come out and participate in our beloved sport, I have tremendous respect for you.  Playing football at Keppel comes with a challenging kind of adversity, and I admire every one of my kids who kept the sport alive with their participation, their dedication, and their unconditional perseverance.  Indeed, being a Keppel football player comes with regional ridicule.  However, I am proud of the way my kids continued to fight-on regardless of the Keppel Football stigma imposed upon by the general public.  I’d like to also thank the Almont League football coaches and all other area football coaches who offered constant encouragement and support.  Finally, I’d like to thank my loyal staff for the passion they have for high school football and for their genuine dedication to my Keppel boys.  I wish everyone success and good health in 2016,” Sepulveda stated.
The Aztecs will now search for a full-time staff member and head football coach.
