Game Night: Week One

Marc Shettleroe's Rams will try to bounce back against Arroyo in the "Mid Valley Classic"

Marc Shettleroe’s Rams will try to bounce back against Arroyo in the “Mid Valley Classic”

All games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated.

Thursday September 1

Rosemead (0-1) at Northview (0-1) – Covina District Field

The Vikings went down but that happens to a lot of teams against Charter Oak. Antwuan Ayers proved to be the weapon we knew he was and quarterback Steven Comstock, although battered around, still kept coming. Rosemead suffered a tough loss at the hands of South Pasadena and although the Tigers are improved, its concerning that the Panthers gave up 35. If South Pas drops 35 on the Rosemead D what will Northview do? Vikings win handily.

Northview 38 Rosemead 17

Friday September 2

Arroyo (0-0-1) at Temple City (0-1) Mid Valley Classic

Although some of the luster has been off of the Mid Valley Classic in recent years it’s still a nice local matchup. We’re still not sure which opener was uglier – Arroyo’s tie with Covina or Temple City’s 42-14 loss to Pasadena Poly. Arroyo can score as it showed early against the Colts and should do so often against a Ram defense that was torched last Friday night. The Rams might be able to get back on the right track when league play starts but they’ll be derailed here. Arroyo…big.

San Dimas (1-0) at Maranatha (0-0-1)

The Saints were blowing out Bonita in the Smudgepot while Maranatha was struggling to tie Rim of the World. The Minutemen have a nice home field. A full house at the bounce and pounce is always an advantage. But it might won’t be enough to stop the Saints attack. Jarell Sykes and company will be too much for Maranatha. San Dimas by at least two scores.

Hart (0-0) at Downey (1-0)

The Vikings are coming off a season opening win over San Pedro that saw Emari Demarcado rush for 263 yards and three total touchdowns.  On the other side it will be Hart’s first contest of the season. Hart returns Nick Moore as the signal caller but the skill players were hit hard by graduation. Still the Indians are always well coached so this game should be close.

St. Francis (0-0) at West Covina (0-1)

It’s from the frying pan into the fire for the Bulldogs. Last week West Co got racked by Colony 49-14 and this week they get to host St. Francis in the Golden Knights season opener. Big things are expected from Michael Bonds although who he will be throwing to is a big question mark as most of last years playmakers have graduated. Coach Maggiore’s troops will need to keep the ball on the ground and control the clock to keep this one close.

St. Francis 40 West Covina 22

Don Lugo (1-0) at Pomona (0-1)

Last week the Conquistadors toughed it out and got the win over an athletic Warren squad while the Red Devils got beat up by Oak Hills. After last weeks win Don Lugo should be ready for the athletes that Pomona will throw at them. Darrien Lockett is gone and Pomona is still searching for their identity.

Don Lugo 42 Pomona 17

Chino (0-1) at Baldwin Park (1-0)

Chino looking to get well after falling to Damien last week. Baldwin Park came out victorious in Joe Fuller’s debut but stopping Chino’s run game might be too much to ask. the Braves might stick around for a half but the Cowboys will run them over in the second. Chino gets the W.

Chino 35 Baldwin Park 13
