Mid Valley Draft: Receivers

Will A.J. Powell be the first receiver drafted?

Draft Day: Tuesday February 9, 2010

You might have a quarterback but does he have anybody to throw the ball to? These are your big play guys – the guys that get the ball into the end zone. A quality receiver can make even the most average quarterback look good. On the high school level some receivers also split time at running back. For instance Leonard Rhodes at Walnut accumulated over 400 yards on receptions this past season but in terms of a draft he is better suited as a fullback or running back. A.J. Powell of Charter Oak had just over 300 receiving yards but he was such a dynamic force at so many other positions that you might draft him as a receiver and then move him around.

We have listed the true receivers- guys that you would line up wide and tell the quarterback to throw them the darn ball. We have broken it down into players that are first round consideration, next level and the best of the rest.

Remember the draft is this Tuesday. It’s not too late to get a team. Post your name and team in the comments section.

My top 3 picks would be A.J. Powell, Mitchell Crockom, and Carlos Arredondo.
I’ve seen all three play this year and they are all very talented. Does anyone know if the Schurr kid signed anywhere? I couldn’t find ant info….

Yeah Kolbeck was overlooked because SD was so effective on the ground. My sleeper pick is Greg Parham at the MEAD! Surprise. It looks like Kolbeck is listed under the best of the rest now.

I agree with you on Kolbeck problem is no one is thinking about him because San Dimas is run first. Imight need to get into this draft if I can get off of work.

If I was going to pick a receiver since that’s not one of my needs it would be Casey Horine…he would have had an 800 yd season if not for injuries. And Sykes only had one dominant performance…however Sykes has talent. Yepez needed to step up as well.

As TE goes, I’d take Even Highley or Dakota Behr.

But the Chargers are set at receiver so I’m going to need a Running Back soon…but you’re hitting every category except my big need on Defense which is DE.

What About Kevin Kolbeck. I would have him in the first round. 6’4 180. Great hands, good speed, awesome blocker.

What about tight ends? And based on the fact I might be losing Boldin, I want a speed guy who fits in the second or third rounds. I need a break down. I dont want to get stuck with another possession guy. In the end i think Fitzgerald is glorified possession guy.
