Vanessa Dwyer threw a complete game victory in her debut for Vanguard University

(Costa Mesa) – She’s been playing softball since she was six years old. From Temple City American Little League to Temple City ASA to La Salle High School along with numerous travel ball teams along the way. Saturday Vanessa Dwyer saw the fruits of all her labor pay off as she took the circle at Vanguard University.

After 12 years of toiling away on softball fields across Southern California and beyond Dwyer’s dream of playing college ball was finally realized. And she made the most of the opportunity throwing a complete game 6-1 victory over Claremont-Mudd Saturday afternoon in the second game of a doubleheader. The only run she allowed was unearned.

For Dwyer her college debut was not only a dream realized and the culmination of over a decade of hard work, but also the start of a new chapter in her life. For the next four years Vanessa Dwyer, who once tossed the ball around Live Oak Park as a six year old girl, will be pitching for the Vanguard University Lions.

They should have a rule that state any player on a college team should have their tuition paid for. Most of these kids are playing ball and paying for their tuition. If a player is going to represent their school and give 4 to 5 hours a day of practice or game than they should reward them. Most softball or baseball players get little to no money to play. Football is different they give out 85 D1 scholarships. But schools like Vanguard, La Verne and the like give out no sports money.
