Fake news: Problems can be found anywhere if you choose to look. Seems that anonymous just wants to find or keep players from going home to ER. I have heard several players are returning to ER’s football program but they are all Pico residents. Many upscale communities have had their share of youth violence and Pico not immune but the families there work hard to fight them. If you think ER is bad you better take a long hard look at South Whittier gang violence where ST.Paul is in the heart of. Those gangs make ER’s look like the Micky Mouse Club. You can’t build a wall around your kid and bad things do happen any place any time. Best protection is education.

@Anonymous, UCLA? Really? It is much easier to get accepted into USC than UCLA or CAL!

I respect your choice… any school can produce quality individuals like your UCLA bound relative if that student is driven. Sound like he/she is. For money I wasn’t willing to risk the safety of my child. Good luck sir

I don’t recall one incident where a student was stabbed on the way to school. The funny thing is I’ve had some cousins that were involved in that lifestyle and according to them “Pico gangs are dead” my kids attend a local private school however I have a relative that has attended that local public high school and never have gangs been a problem for her, from day 1 honors/college prep courses and has been accepted to UCLA. With a police station 1 min away it’s very hard for gangs to thrive at that high school, in the 90s sure, today much different story. What has me intrigued is the fact that they are rebuilding the school. It’s not 100% they will be attending there, but things are pointing that way.

Sorry for your experience. But let me give you some insight on this local “PUBLIC” school. If you’re looking for a family atmosphere you won’t find it at ER! It’s a meeting ground for the three major gangs in Pico. Check the local paper for how many incidents are in or around the school! Who wants to subject their kids to that. If you’re worried about SP being too football centric, Football is the only positive thing at ER it’s all it has going for them. Trust me two years ago I was in the your same shoes deciding where to send me son, I chose not to play Russian Roulette with his safety and avoided the gang infested ER and sent him to SP. the first time I cracked open the local paper and saw the headline “student stabbed on his way to school” I knew I had the best choice for all of us.

I attended a recent open house at St Paul and had every intention of enrolling my son there in the fall of 2018, I thought I would get a family atmosphere with emphasis on community and education, the school is horrible shape and not one serious academic question could be answered, it was all
about football this football that. Sorry not sorry, he’s likely going to the local public school now.

While I agree that the hiring of former Salesian coach is fishy, it’s for different reasons. I’m not putting race into the equation but transfers, recruiting, and overall ethics.

St.Paul is notorious for having shady ethics when it comes to recruiting and poaching from neighborhood schools. It’s been that way for decades. On top of that, they had to forefeit 2 games last season because they couldn’t behave themselves and got into a fight against riverside notre dame and then Amat got the short end of the stick because they weren’t able to play them. Let’s not forget the fact that they get into fights at 7 on 7 outings on a yearly basis. Heck, it’s not too long ago that their baseball team was in a fight that made the front page of the newspaper.

It doesn’t stop there either. Zepeda had an assistant coach who broke into cars at a local bar in Pico Rivera while he was at el Rancho but still decided to keep him when he went to St.Paul.

And now they’ve shown no shame hiring the coach who was responsible for a Vaseline incident against La Canada and a guy whose captains refused to shake hands against calabasas. I’m sure you’ve all seen the viral video of that. He was also in some trouble for recruiting while at Inglewood

    http://articles.latimes.com/1992-07-02/sports/sp-1634_1_southern-section

They’ve ditched Amat for years now but want to play teams such as South El Monte. Why you ask? Because they want to beat up on lower level schools and take their best kids in the process ala Tovar.

    No shame for the slime.

How many SGV schools still don’t have a head football coach?
