South El Monte coming off of a big year

South El Monte coming off of a big year

By Tim Peterson

(El Monte) – South El Monte, Bell Gardens and LA Jordan visited Arroyo Saturday for a four-way throw.

Didn’t the season just end? Wasn’t Arroyo HC Jim Singiser holding the CIF Championship plaque high above his head just last week? Well actually it was four months ago and in this day and age that means it’s time to hit the field.

Ernesto "Macho" Camacho is back for Arroyo.

Ernesto “Macho” Camacho is back for Arroyo.

Arroyo of course is looking for a repeat of last year’s success as is South El Monte who advanced to the Division 13 semi finals. Different story for Bell Gardens which is coming off a disappointing 2-8 campaign. The Lancers were loaded with sophomores last year and with Margarito Beltran at the helm it can only get better.

Yes Shurr is going to be the favorite this year I’ll give you that but your staff…… Ramos just isn’t that good never could get BG over the hump him and his other two amigos just plan and simply are not good. They crack under pressure so keep Ramos, Sanchez, and Bently ( most likely he is going to join you in the sidelines). I’ll take Beltrami any day he is a proven winner.

I just want to know how it felt for 2 of those OC teams to barely squeak out wins over a coachless 1-9 ER team in 2015, I was a neutral fan on the opposing sideline and your OC teams and staff knew they were in a dog fight each time.

Dumbest comment I’ve ever heard is about how the Arroyo Schurr game started. The coaches didn’t know what to do? Lmfao. They knew exactly what to do that’s why the rattled off 42 points smart guy! I think the Schurr coaches couldn’t adjust evident of our lop sided victory! Talk about the faces of coaches lol

What do you want arroyo to do about that? They play in the league their in that’s all they can do. And if you’re from Schurr don’t act like the almontbus any better it’s a two team race every year

Arroyo is weak just like the league they play in biggest school in the El Monte district but playing schools with half the students I won’t give that school any credit until they join a legit division with equal competition until then I’ll give them as much credit as Gabby gets in basketball lol

The only team that dares to come into the heart of the OC is El Rancho. They got their bells rung but at least they tried.

As for that loss, yeah we lost and your point is????? That first quarter all I hear was crickets from the Arroyo sideline. The faces on your stuff was priceless. We play again this year and these kids don’t forget their losses. What come around goes around. Well return the favor on 9/1/17

You guys are panicking already in April? Geez! Relax boys this is the time of the year to mess up these are teaching moments. All this talk from people at South El Monte and Schurr about Bell Gardens High School, BG has never been the biggest or the fastest but they were always going to be one of the toughest. Anyone that has seen BG football the last three to five years the football program (in general all of its sports programs) has been no where near what Coach Newell built in the early 80s and left in place in the late 90s. Anyone that has been a part of this program this year and yes even last year can see the change happening, yes Bell Gardens was 2-8 last year but outside looking in Coach Lombardi might have been able to get 3 wins this past year. I graduated from Bell Gardens and had two boys play football for Coach Newell (1991 and 1998), I have heard the people talking and I have seen a few of the Night Lifts and the 50 to 60 junior high kids who showed up for the camp BG put on. I don’t know if Coach Beltran can build at Bell Gardens what he built at La Serna but I do know if Coach Beltran can bring back the mental and physical toughness back to Bell Gardens that was sorely missed throughout the 2000s the wins will follow. Bring back the mental and physical toughness, bring back that Gurkha attitude and I will guarantee the wins will follow.

2nddegenerationLancer we know you’re not a parent youreally on the SEM staff so you don’t know what’s going on here. We will be Allright here and we will successful. We will see you here at BG to watch the games on your bi week. I have more faith on a head coach that is a proven winner and helped your head coach get his ring. And again on your game the upcoming JV team played 80% of the game so don’t look to much into it.

Not that BG kids can’t handle it… but totally different situation here than at LS. At LS they get an influx of the best kids from all over the Whittier area. For example, at BG we get 3-4 really good football players that come in as freshman every year. At LS they get 15-18 really good football players every year. To further my point. Our BG kids MUST play both ways or we can’t compete at LS they have so many good players they don’t play both ways for the most part. At LS you can afford to teach complexity because that’s all they have to learn. At BG we learn the complex offense and a defense? Now we’re thinking and thinking causes hesitation and hesitation causes losses! In college where it is essentially your job to play football they still don’t over complicate scheme why? Because they want kids to play fast. DeLaSalle the most successful program in the nation runs 6-8 plays offensively and play a base defense Coaches there know if they do not beat themselves they understand tricks are kids tricks get you beat. if you don’t beat yourself and you don’t give up big plays and you don’t turn the ball over the other team probably won’t beat you because they will use tricks they will give up the ball essentially beating themselves. Saint John Bosco 12 plays using formations and tempo and again a base 4-2-5 disguising quarters and halves defense that’s it. So if the big dogs employ this strategy and they play against the nations best id follow that strategy before I would give 15-17 years a hundred options and not make a mistake!

@2generationslancer, Give your players more credit than that. Are you saying that Bell gardens kids aren’t smart enough to learn a system the La Serna kids were able to learn? That’s not good at all. What is it? La Serna kids can handle something sophisticated but BG kids can’t? That’s not a good mentality at all.

2generationLancer the team that got scored on was the jv team 8 freshmen. The first twam only had one score on them and thats because the starting safety wasnt there. Don’t judge Beltran till you have the ring to do so. I bet if he asked you to be in his staff you would jump on the chance. Worry about your team and your coache’s oh and worry about Arroyo.

ER is not in the league. They haven’t been “in the league” since 1993. Wake up 2generationslancer and join the 21st century. I was at the same passing league you were and saw SEM score 8 touchdowns with there ones against BGs twos and threes to the point where the SEM HC got pissed and told his coaches to sub the starters out.
Instead of talking crap on a blog why don’t you go to a practice or night lift. If you are associated with the program you know Coach Beltran opens them both up for the parents to watch. If you are a dad I’m guessing your son was one of the twos or threes not movie up the depth chart. If you can’t see the improvement from last year already your blind as a bat!

  35. April 17, 2017 - 12:11 pm | Permalink

South El Monte scored 8 touchdowns in 20 plays vs our great defense yes South El Monte the wing t team! If that’s not cause for concern at BG I don’t know what is! I agree with generation lancer. The kiss method when dealing with kids is probably the only way to go. Beltran you don’t get the same pass as last year senor. You must show improvement this year.

Amazing how there are so many people that know it all! For all guys that are doing great coaching on these blogs, go to college, get a degree, get a teaching credential, student teach, and then coach at the high school level. It might take you 6 years. Until then shut the heck up and stick to playing madden in the same room that you grew up in. Considering you graduated from high school 10 years ago!

Dude its spring the kids are supposed to be a little lost right now, that is the point of these “practices”. You get to go against other teams and get the kids to learn the schemes. No one expects them to be great right now. If you are mad because he yells too much while coaching then you should transfer your son to El Monte or better yet apply there and show everyone just how simple and stupid you can make things.

BGs Defense is absolutely horrible. So many switches, So many what ifs, the kids are lost which is a shame because there are athletes in the secondary. Beltran, you ever hear of KISS? keep it simple STUPID! If you run basic coverage schemes your kids can play FAST!!! Not think out there on the field…do I take this guy or do I take that guy. It’s a joke really! Do you really think A high school Qb is really gonna beat a standard coverage scheme? The only team in league that throws the ball is ER, but they are RPOs and dink and dunk. Beltran you need a DC and just back off seriously. The kids all agree on one thing…THEY DONT UNDERSTAND YOUR SCHEME! stop screaming at them and be a real coach and evaluate your personnel to see if what you’re doing is or isn’t working

Great day to throw the ball around. Good to see everyone leave healthy. Couple things to point out, Arroyo looks huge! Saw their lineman getting some work in before hand. They are big up front. SEM has some nice athletes but are small No Sal Tovar today hoping those Cathedral rumors aren’t true. Camacho looked a little rusty today but the talent is there. SEM still running the same man zone combo defense that has no business in high school. But hey they run it lol. in a two horse race for league Arroyo clearly has the athletic edge and will have the size advantage as well. Chalk up another MVL crown boys. Calling it now.
