    @Outsider , lots of truth in what you posted.
    @Cantwin , I hope you are wrong. Come back here in December to see if you were right but I doubt it.
    @annoymous , I think we hired a great new coach and I believe he will actually improve the program though the previous coach was pretty good. Basketball at CSHM is on the elite level in the state and from what I have seem so far we won’t have much of a drop of if any.

    Basketball at Cantwell is done too . The Coach was Fired . No more 6″10 Serb’s. If Your a good Athlete don’t go to Cantwin. There is no support from Alumni and The Administration there. They can bring in Rollingson from Mater Dei and they still won’t win there.

    What made you think that coach Brown would win at your school. He was like 1-9 at Duarte which has more athleticism than any team in that league. You can’t complain you hire a bad coach going in. Guys can be great interviews but can’t coach a lick. Same is true at Bonita, they hire coach Aguliar who did terrible at SEM got fire and last year did not win a league game at Bonita. Wake up people, you bring this upon yourself. Smart schools hire good coaches and dumb schools do that.

    I claim no inside knowledge of Cantwell’s coaching situation, but it’s as clear as day that this school cares far more about basketball than football. This has been the case for the better part of a decade, and since this state of affairs reflects the wishes of the administration, it is THERE that the drive to improve football needs to be directed. All that needs to be done is to visit the school’s offices and ask to speak with the principal or athletic director…tell him or her that you are an interested fan who is disappointed by the school’s football program, and that you will be watching to see if things improve. Then leave. If ten or twenty adults do this, it will have the greatest possible effect on Cantwell football.

    @redbird,
    Coach Brown is barely in his 1st year and a half at our school. Taylor did nothing to help with numbers. Give him some time to get the program where you and others would like it to be. To say we played a weak schedule is totally false. We play MHS who went to the semifinals. We play a Salesian team that had over 12 kids with D1 scholarships. We play St Anthony’s who played for and won a state championship last year. We played St Genevieve who also played for a state championship. And guess what we get to play those four teams again. How is that weak? Our QB didn’t play the last 4 game but yet had a season good enough to warrant some college attention this past spring and summer. Only one basketball player got a scholarship and he had never played football before. Who do you think his position coach was? No comment on Wilson but you do know he had at one point during the season 4 full scholarships offers. You might end up being right about our coaches but at the very least give them this year to show what they can do.

    I’ve been around and have seen plenty to comment on the state of the program under Coach Brown. While I know several of the players are good kids with good kids grades that doesn’t account for the entire program.

    I’ve been at several practices and there is no structure or discipline. Last years program had a total of maybe 50 players combined between Varsity and JV, Varsity played a weak schedule in a very very weak league and finished 2-8. Two of the players who earned scholarships last year were basketball players who decided to play football last minute because the team needed kids. Coach Brown couldn’t do anything with a potential D1 athlete on the field last year in Wilson. Cantwell couldn’t even make the playoffs in the newly configured CIF format which placed them in the lowest of all levels Division 13.

    I agree there are some good kids on the team, the QB is a great kid however he has absolutely no support around him. There is no excuse for the program to be where it’s at.

    @Makes Sense,
    It’s 7on7 but I will take the bite for a bit though 7on7 it reflects very little on the up coming season. Mountain View tournament we lost to BG in the consolation championship. SGV Shootout we lost in pool play to the two teams that played for the championship. QB is a diva you say so not going to touch that. I am sure you have seen all the work he and his teammates put in everyday. This past weekend we lost one game to Silverado 46-40 and Silverado played for the championship. Silverado will probably be in the real season CIF championship again like they were last year. We just a little ole Division 13 team trying to compete with you big boys but to say will have not gotten significantly better you show you got no clue. Best of luck to whoever you root for. Stay classy.

    @The Real Red Bird,
    is this better? Being alumni and a former player, if you are, doesn’t give you credibility to comment about us unless you are currently part of the family and it doesn’t sound like you are. You only see what you want to hear. Most of our kids have above 3.5 GPAs with several above 4.0 but maybe that is something you do not know or care about. Hope we see you out at a game but I doubt it. And no way you have been at practice because that is simply not true. If you can’t see the potential this team has then please stay away. Several of the kids will go on to play college ball at different levels on scholarships as three did last year…but like you said the program must be in shambles. You might be right about Brown or not but he doesn’t make a program. The kids make the program. Hope we can change your mind about the program you so obviously care about. Get informed, practice is open to all and come out and shake some hands. Introduce yourself if you truly care about your alma mater. You will see that it more than just football out here.

    Ya sorry have to agree, I don’t see any improvement for Cantwell. I saw them at the Mountain View tournament and the SGV Shootout. Coaches don’t do much other than talk out loud. They don’t make any corrections for players on the field. They key their QB act however he wants, he’s a Diva. He doesn’t take accountability for anything, when he kisses throws he throws his hands in the air because it’s always the receivers fault! And what does HC do? Keeps his head down looking at his call sheet and just encourages the Diva attitude for his Quarterback. Have yet to hear any actual coaching or pointers on techniques when they’re talking out loud. Also, don’t see the “they looked good”. They were in Consolation Bracket in both tournaments I was at, not exactly tearing it up. Long season ahead! Wonder if a new HC search will be in store at end of year?

    @the other Red Birds out there please use your own username.

    As an alumni and former football player at Cantwell I can say that the program is in shambles. Travis Brown has shown that he is incompetent, practices lack any structure or discipline, coaches are acting like total fools at summer passing league games, lower levels have very low numbers I could go on and on.

    Unfortunately I don’t see things getting better for the football program unless there is a change in coaching. Travis Brown came in and talked a big game but has done absolutely nothing to improve the program. Assistant coaches challenging refs to fights at summer league games is unacceptable.

    @surprised, put your money were your mouth is. You got no clue about our squad. Love the way you got your info from a COUPLE OF COACHES and how these coaches think THAT MOST LIKELY these kids will not make it through the season. They know less about us than you.
    @anonymous, this isn’t two years ago with 5 starting freshman on that varsity team.
    Coach Taylor’s gone and those kids are coming into their own. Whoever you are, stop hating and use a different handle. There is only one annoymous …lol

    @anonymous. Wow!! Is that what you have to say about Cantwell losing to Bosco Tech 2 years ago. Times change and teams improve. The current coaching staff is making tremendous in roads to develope the players confidence and skill set. Now every program goes through set backs, Cantwell is no different. Will Cantwell become a contender, maybe, lets see. Their 7 on 7 season looked good and they improved at each tournament they entered; progress is there. But as you well know, 7 on 7 is unrealistic. Lets see how Cantwell and the others teams perform on the field when season begins. I’m optimistic that Cantwell will perform better than last year. It should be a good ride.

    Why are you talking about Cantwin Football. They are horrible. Two year’s ago they lost to Bosco tech breaking their 27 game losing streak.

    Was told by a couple coaches that Cantwell had a few players “transfer” in recently and that most likely will not make it through the season at the school. Congratulations to Cantwell on a great 7 on 7 Summer Session. Too bad they are going to be 2-8 again
