Spartans Sharp In Win Over Bulldogs

Miguel Aguero was on fire for the Spartans Friday night.

(Montebello) The Schurr Spartans and the Garfield Bulldogs battled for the first time in the schools histories. The two teams traded early touchdowns until the Spartans broke it open with 32 unanswered points and belted the Bulldogs 46-14 before a packed house at Ken Davis Field.

Miguel Aguero had a huge night for the Spartans throwing for 353 yards and five touchdowns and added 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

While Aguero had a great night, it was the Bulldogs who got on the board first. Adam Polanco found Jalen Lawrence from 13 yards away to cap an eight play 54 yard drive and give Garfield the early 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs were set up with good field position when Kevin Lopez, fighting for extra yards, coughed up the ball at the Garfield 46.

Schurr answered right back with a score on the ensuing drive. The Spartans traveled 61 yards on six plays finalized with Aguero getting his first td pass on the night to Miguel Torres.

Francisco Remigio score three times for Schurr in the win.

Garfield returned the score with another of their own late in the first period on a 10 yard run by Polanco. The score was the last of the night for the Bulldogs as the Spartan defense shut Garfield out the rest of the way.

The Spartan offense caught fire and did most of their damage in the second quarter. Three more touchdown passes by Aguero, two to Francisco Remigio and another to Aaron Silva and a seven yard touchdown scamper by Remigio pushed the Schurr lead to 34-14 as the teams headed to the locker room at the break.

The Spartan defense put a pounding on the Bulldogs.

Just past midway through the third quarter, Schurr got on the board again when Aguero found Lance Babb II on a 39 yard catch and run to paydirt. The Aguero to Remigio connection played a key roll in the the drive as faced with a third and 35, Aguero found Remigio over the middle and the senior receiver picked up 40 yards on the play.

Non other than Aguero would finish off the scoring the evening calling his own number from seven yards away capping a 10 play, 89 yard drive with 10:12 remaining in the game.

Remigio finished the night hauling in nine passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns and carrying the rock six times for 36 yards and another score. Babb II had 10 catches of his own for 111 yards and the lone score.

Not much on the highlight film for Garfield as most of the damage was done by Polanco who threw for 61 yards and a score and carried the ball 16 times for 149 yards and another score.

The Spartans will have a big test next week when they travel to Arroyo to take on the 2016 Division 12 Champs. The game will be a rematch of last years Division 12 quarterfinals match in which the Knights beat the Spartans 42-28.

Schurr good maybe not… but do not underestimate Beltran and that Wing-T system, once it gets going it’s very hard to stop. La Serna was also the team that never did crap, all of a sudden Beltran takes over and within 3-4 years they were competing for CIF titles. La Serna didn’t have a tremendous amount of talent until maybe the 2013 senior class yet they became what they became. Im no fan of BG but they won’t lay down for anyone in the almost this season.

please tell me why would a kid go play at BG. Whyyyyyyyyyy! It’s ugly in the city and in the school. Cmon no real football player wants to play at BG. They should be in the eastern league with Bell, Garfield and those teams. BG would fit perfect playing City ball.

Lancer….We don’t know what Ramos’s history was at BG, all we can do is judge what he has done for the last 3 years leading the Spartans. This man has turned a program around from what went through its not too great of years ran by Schurr Alumni. Ramos has taught these boys discipline and to work hard on and off the field. For example….Ramos could have kept the kid that left to play down the hill and continue what everyone did for that kid his whole life as in catering to him. Ramos put a stop to that and did not play him due to not being academically eligible. The kid chose to leave for a “better opportunity” if you know what that means. That speaks volumes and my hats off to a staff for sticking to their guns. We look around the program and see what has developed in the last 3 years. With the help of the AD, Ramos has changed the culture, weight room and has made many upgrades to equipment that Schurr was accustomed to for many years. Locally who uses a drone for film during practice? Ramos has committed himself to lifting the program to what it once was. Always looking for improvement he has brought in some new offensive minds and Ramos is the one who gets the credit. So continue to bash this man but all we can do as Alumni/Parents is thank him for what he has done. Good luck this season……..
Spartans…let the boys do the talking on the field.

    OMG okay now @ MAS
I’m talking about recent history not ancient history Phi Beta Kappa. Lol. you keep saying your coming for us well I keep waiting and I still get the same result WE WIN!!!! What credit do you want, that’s what’s comical, and I’m the idiot. No jack a$$ your the idiot. My coach and daddy always thought me something, if you want to get something done go out and do it, well we did and we keep doing it. So if you want to give credit why don’t you start with the fact that you had your chance with me and we broke whatever streak you claim. Now there is a new streak and yes the last time I checked 1,2,3,4 etc that’s how math works (idiot) one at a time!!! But wait I know you beat Garfield big freaking deal, until you beat us your just keep getting your little selves all worked up. And for all the jacks that claim a wager, sorry but smoking weed and drinking beer before a high school game is not my cup of tea. That’s what’s up… guys are a joke… your taking a beating on the blogs for Christ sakes. Good luck in your what D-12 or something like that. Nice direction.

    Young buck?

You said you graduated in 2013? That means no rings for you as well. Dont hang you hat on someone else’s success. What an idiot you are. I know guys that have won championships and the last thing they want is someone taking credit for their work. As for our coach, he’s won a championship in a high division. That cannot be said by anyone in your school history. I sound like you. Taking credit for someone else success. Grow up and time will tell who’s got the better program. As of right now, it’s us. When you take them you can claim it.
As for our coach’s appearance, yes he’s on the short side. But if you measured him next to your coach he looks 10 feet tall. He’s earned it through wins and character.
Matter of fact, your coach looks like part of the cast of Goonies!!!! Baby Ruth stunt double!!! Get a life…

Omg here we go again. @Oilerville trust me, all this we beat the team that beat you or we scored more points vs a common opponent mumbo jumbo has been going on for years now. All we do is keep beating them when the only game that matters counts. Trust me me they have to do these things to remind themselves that we are at 4 years in a row. Thinks about that 4 years in a row if we beat this team by a better score than when you played them. But at the end of the day it’s them that are worried and rightfully so. For crying out loud 4 years in a row must drive you crazy especially when you beat teams that beat us but still can’t seal the deal. Trust me we have never not shown up for the game or got frightening when idiots say just wait. We always find a way to psych ourselves out enough to get there somehow and get it done. Just blue collar between the lines and for 4 in a row… lol ouch that’s got to hurt especially when you have tried EVERYTHING and it just don’t seem to work. Oilers baby!!!!
