10. Schurr at Arroyo, Friday night 7: 00 p.m.
@ FridayKnights,
“Salesian has a big showdown against D13 Cantwell the Angelus loses that one you Cathedral guys have no argument!” LOL
It’s crazy that people give Bonds at St Crancis so much cred. I mean damn he’s a t St Francis can definitely get talent and I’m sure he can coach…….. but where are the rings ? What has he done at St Francis. Someone please inform and don’t go into this whole he’s a great man and all that. I believer is but what has he done
Football is, “any given day”!
The mighty Angelus league myth.
St Francis always good. Coach Bonds certainly one of the best football minds around.
St Paul lost to Div. 10 Montebello. Need I say more.
Salesian has a big showdown against D13 Cantwell the Angelus loses that one you cathedral guys have no argument!
LaSalle lost to D12 Arcadia lols
Harvard Westlake has two wins vs Birmingham and Jefferson, Jefferson lost Bell! Lols. Plus they have a showdown with Garfield who should’ve lost to Montebello if not for shady officiating and who lost to D12 Schurr. My vote is Garfield beats HWL by two scores.
So with all that said if you put Arroyo in the Mighty Angelus they’re a third place team. Conceding to St Francis and Cathedral. Yea real tough league there buddy. Lols
Your answers:
A. ARROYO 109 – Wins – 7 League Championships DIV-XI Maxpreps # 259
B. MATER DEI 121 – Wins – 4 League Championships DIV-I Maxpreps #1
C. MONROVIA 108 -Wins – 9 League Championships DIV-VII Maxpreps # 574
D. ST. MARGARET’S 151 – Wins – 12 League Championships DIV-VII Maxpreps # 215
Bottom line, they are all good teams in divisions that they can compete at the top.
Cathedral is a joke, shows off beating a blind kid!
That makes 2 of us.
#1 their main recruiting focus is Whittier, Pico Rivera, Norwalk , Santa Fe Springs cities which do not produce the type of talent SP needs to be a legitimate threat. #2 the campus is very outdated #3 education is subpar #4 coaching isn’t too great, #5 they are stuck on the “St Paul way” which is outdated and won’t work in today’s local football world. For SP to lose to Montebello is the absolute embarrassment of the century, I once upon a time was considering sending my son there, thank god I didn’t now I avoid that place like the plague. Not sure why anyone would pay such tuition to get so little back for their kids. Bail on that sinking ship.
Why don’t you worry about your 0-2 record at south gate instead of pretending to be from Downey?
How does St Paul lose to Montebello? Sad to see a once proud program become what it has become. Is it time for a coaching change or is it just a program that will never be back?
Since many are discussing teams, here are some interesting stats to match with the correct team. They are in no order, but alphabetic by team.
See if you can match the following teams to the number of total wins and league titles since 2004?
A. ARROYO
B. MATER DEI
C. MONROVIA
D. ST. MARGARETS
E. 151 F. 109 G. 121 H. 108 I. 9 J. 4 K. 7 L. 12
oops Burbank next then San Pedro.
@Friday knights
awesome points. those clowns love to beat up on weaker teams to inflate stats. When Alemany and Chaminade left Cathedral was supposed to follow but they went to court to escape those teams. Competition isn’t what PEE is after its notoriety its fame he wants people to worship him which why he has the staff he does… all yes men! hes hoping a college is fooled by his fake stats and hires him. If god were walking down the street Pee would fight him because this man thinks hes god. We played Santa Margarita Hart and san Pedro next. that’s a schedule we will be tougher for it come playoff time. I like that Danny is calling out Arroyo now loll…….I can list all the opponents that were turned down by these clowns.
Cathedral plays Loyola in two weeks a D1 Team. Arroyo better worry about Schurr.
Yea I’m sure cathedral would love to another division 11 team to add to their schedule. Lmfao. Why don’t you call up bishop Amat I’m sure they’d love to play you guys. How about you play anyone who’s not in double digit divisions. Cmon bro it’s embarrassing.
And if Schurr or we win at least both schools had the stones to play the game which is far more than what anyone can say at Cathedral. Keep racking up that yardage tho guys. It really looks good.
My other lock of the week, Los Altos beats St. Paul.
St. Paul is a D7 Team In The Angelus league. Cathedral is Loaded and Ready for D2. Why don’t you call Cathedral for a game. They will even send their Freshman team to play Arroyo’s Varsity anytime at your place. Schurr 35- Arroyo 14.
That’s not a bad idea. Gentrification will be coming to that neighborhood soon enough. Get in now while the getting’s good.
And every team in the D2 bracket will beat Cathedral by 40! Also Montebello D10 just beat St Paul so there goes your argument buddy and St Paul is probably gonna finish in third place so that doesn’t say much for the angelus. That league went to hell when chaminade and Alemeny left.
Every Team in The Angelus League would beat Arroyo by 50 points or more.
Mr Objective
Great points. I’d also like to add Arroyo played Hart last year!!! No one is mentioning that.
@Angelus fan
Keep my comments to myself??? Why don’t you take your own advice I’ll do me you do you. Cathedral will be tested ieague??? Lmfao other than st Francis no one will test you. You won’t be tested til the playoffs by then it’ll be too late and you guys will get toasted by those D2 teams. I will venture to say that you can’t beat any of the D2 teams
Mr. Obj: You forgot 2011’s loss to SG.
Correction:
*2006
I am indebted to Angelus Fan for the information about inner-city safety. Now I know there is no real reason for higher home prices in the suburbs versus old Los Angeles. Everyone who chose to bolt from South Central and the like were stupid, because they were already living in paradise. I’m going to start scouting the hood around Cathedral so I can scoop up a bargain estate, and who knows, maybe I’ll become a Phantom fan for life.
Life is relative my friend. Arroyo can be defined as a juggernaut when compared to teams of comparable talent. Just take a look at last year. In the regional state championship vs La Jolla Country Day, they put up 42 points and went toe to toe for the entire game. They scored 35 on Rancho Mirage in the CIF title game, 70 vs Segerstrom in the semis, and 42 vs a solid Schurr squad. What, no credit? Why, because Arroyo is loaded with D1 talent?
Those who constantly attempt to diminish or discredit Arroyo’s recent success are plainly myopic. Frankly, I think it’s stupid to say Arroyo hasn’t played anyone in recent memory. In the last 20 years, Arroyo has played plenty of formidable opponents. Throughout Arroyo’s history, they have been required to face superior opponents time after time. How soon people forget. Let’s revisit, shall we:
In 2012, Arroyo was one tackle away from knocking off Sierra Canyon. Yes, Sierra freakin’ Canyon! The same Sierra Canyon who went 15-0 in 2011 and captured the state championship. Arroyo lost 28-20 to Sierra Canyon in the quarterfinals. Valiant effort. No one remembers.
In 2005, Arroyo’s first round opponent was La Habra. Yes, that La Habra. We all know how much of a talent discrepancy this match-up presents.
In 2013, Arroyo was knocked out by San Dimas in the Semi-finals. What, San Dimas is considered “nobody”?
In 2005, Arroyo defeated league champion Schurr 44-6 in the first round, then proceeded to give South Hills its toughest game of the playoffs. At the time, South Hills was considered one of the SGV’s top 3 teams (ranked 44th in the state).
In 1995, Arroyo faced Upland in the second round. Yes, freakin’ Upland. How fair is that? Upland had 3 NFL players on the roster. In that game, Arroyo was up 7-0 heading into the 4th quarter, and ultimately lost in a tightly contested game.
What’s the point? The point is, why is it acceptable for the likes of Sierra Canyon, Paraclete, La Habra, South Hills, Upland, etc…. to take on the Arroyos of the world on their way to CIF championships, but Arroyo defeats Schurr and Rancho Mirage, and it’s widely dismissed as an easy road to a ring. That’s just stupid. It was simply Arroyo’s turn for at least one year. Arroyo finally had their realistic opportunity to capture a ring and pulled it off. Nothing cheap about it.
To Friday Knights. I think you should keep your comments to yourself. Cathedral won’t be tested until they play Loyola. Yes The Schedule is weak I understand that. The League games will be tuff. Then comes the playoffs where every team is a monster. Your Arroyo Knights will lose to Schurr and Arcadia come playoff time.
To point number two. The Neighborhood at Cathedral and Chinatown is safe. You can get your car broken into at Loyola and Dodger Stadium, Don’t you have anything better to do.Ask Jesus Christ Himself. When you go to a Dodger Game you pass by Cathedral. Let me know and you can park there.

How can you call arroyo a juggernaut ? Who have they played in the 15 years. There schedule is weak. They one of the better teams in the area. But not a juggernaut. It’s 15-20 teams they can’t beat.
The UGLY fans here sure do have a inferiority complex, for a minute I thought I was on MSNBC and you were talking about Trump the way your talking about USC.
@ FRIDAY NIGHT KNIGHTS
coach knight…. stay off the blogs! haha
Nice try on saying that HW, St. Francis and La Salle all have sparse on-campus parking. The HUGE fact you overlooked is that these other schools rest in FINE, SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS, so parking on the surrounding streets is viable, unlike the high-risk environment that is Chinatown. After trying to find a safe spot for my car on one occasion, I swore to myself that I would never return t0 Cathedral, and I won’t….not even for the second coming of Christ.
As for Schurr beating Arroyo….. highly unlikely. Coach Mac found something last year and best believe he’ll be going back to it early and often. Schurr is a solid team and it should be a great game but I got the Knights 34-21
I have no dog in the fight and we are not talking about last year or the last twenty years. When it comes to this year, I like Schurr.
Schurr has a very good chance of defeating Arroyo this year. In fact, I’d say it’s likely. Arroyo is a juggernaut, but Schurr is pissed. This game means way more to Schurr than it does Arroyo. That is why I give them the edge.
Well this is my first year in this blog which I love by the way! Thanks for the explanation now I know not to ask next year! Better yet hopefully you will be credentialed next year!
Bryce Young makes Cathedral better? How can you tell? Not knocking him I’m sure he’s a wonderful talent but don’t you think that Division 11 teams can’t offer the kind of resistance that’s needed to improve Bryce? Literally it’s 7v7 vs Arcadia. Cathedral is Division 2! The schedule is so weak.
To Point number Two, Now you are attacking a Parking Lot. Try Parking at Harvard Westlake, St. Francis or La Salle. Those are just an example of worst high school parking situations.
Mr. Kotter, You must be talking about USC where Their Football Stars have never seen a Real Classroom. Cheat On.
You are crazy to think that Schurr will beat Arroyo. Schurr has not beat Arroyo in like 20 years. Yes, i know that they have not played every year but can anyone say when the last time Schurr beat Arroyo? I know that last two times have been a spanking that the knights have given the Spartans. I say Arroyo beats Schurr by at least 17. Schurr still has the DC that did nothing to stop them in the second half last year.
As curmudgeonly as it sounds, I agree with you. It was basically a fake play since there was an agreement for the defense to sit it out. Even though it was as inconsequential a play as there could be, making a fake play for him seems awfully condescending.
There are several sports where a blind person can compete, any of which would make a much better story and represent genuine achievement.
Kudos to blind people who attempt things that seem to defy their handicap, but from my vantage point, this is simply politically correct posturing on the part of the Trojans. Let’s say Olson is inserted regularly for a snap here or there, and God forbid, he suffers a serious injury which attorneys claim could have been prevented with normal vision. Would USC then be on the hook for playing a blind athlete?
Cathedral isn’t “lucky” to have Young, they recruited him and there it stands. If students and/or fans find a parking space at this school, on the other hand, THAT’S luck.
What no UCLA article? USC got a full article for beating a MAC team and all UCLA gets is a sentence on the 10!
From T. Peterson: I explain this every year but here we go again. We have press credentials for USC, not UCLA. That’s why you see the full story, pictures etc. for USC. As for why we aren’t credentialed for UCLA, you would have to ask UCLA that question.
Early prediction, Schurr wins Friday night.
Do Cathedral football stars have to attend classes? I hear they miss plenty.
We are lucky to have a Great QB like Bryce Young. He just makes The Phantoms that much better.
