Sir I don’t know you, but I just wanted to let you know I appreciate all your responses, well put together. Excellent writing. I am far removed from high school football my son graduated in 2015 from Rosemead, but I often read the blogs. Keep up the fine reporting!
@Buttermilk,
Clown college doesn’t count…..Get lost junior and let the adults talk.
Compton community? El Camino?
@Bank: How’s it going? I hope you had a great football/baseball weekend.
I appreciate the tip for my semi-retirement career. However, one reason I prefer to stick to nonfiction is because it keeps me grounded in reality.
You also show some talent for vivid writing; were you ever on a ship that hit an iceberg? Some of the best writing and music is based on personal experiences.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to hope that my favorite team (Alhambra) doesn’t get rolled by an opponent of Schurr’s stature. I like to watch good football, and I believe that our guys can play well.
As for in-house politics, that’s not my department. I will support whoever is in charge for as long as they’re in charge, like I always have. The AHS football program will continue to live on.
@Sgv Insider…once again your wrong….you will be sadden to know I am a College grad…..Damn it must be hell being you…..but you only have you to blame…….and I know this site must be the high lite of your pityful life……………a mind is a terrible thing to waste………..oops too late😜
@Coacher,
Neither, because not one of those teams makes it to the final.
@Buttermilk,
You must be a Schurr grad based on your grammar. Should’ve stayed in school junior.
This is a good idea. Schools don’t pay almost $400 for a team of officials to be out there all night watching officials make curiois calls while missing/ignoring larger issues. Reducing the number to 3 means the quality likely remains the same (poor) and it is cheaper.
Division XIII grammar on this site.
South El Monte vs Schurr for D12 title
Arroyo vs Arcadia for D11 title
Who wins?
Sure they are having a bad “season,” but a person who can’t tell the difffence between their, there, they’re and could’ve not “could of” will simply have a horrible life.
I agree…just not on one thing….to your comment on less talent…..coach put talent and heart in the 4thq, something he should have done earlier in the game…
To the commenter who asked why anyone in a semi-conscious state of mind would even think Alhambra has a chance against Schurr, it is only MVS’s resident novelist Vrooman who buys into that hope. But then Ron also keeps the fire burning in his mind that Eric Bergstrom harbors a shred of ability to turn his program around. I can imagine this fellow would have clung to the rails of the Titanic as it sank, thinking that any minute, the water pumps would get the ship sailing again.
Flags during games can be ridiculous. If you pay attention the games with a crapload of flags are usually from a single ref.
On the one bright side, and I’m pretty sure a lot of coaches would have to agree…Refs could throw a holding call on every play if they wanted to. Have seen a couple of refs try to come close.
To quote Rev. Jesse Jackson, “Keep hope alive!”
By the way, I’ve already referred to the Schurr Spartans as a superior team. So, if Alhambra gets outclassed on Friday night, well, OK.
Sgv Insider….What fo you want a team to do …just lay down and not play offensively again……Your nutty…..and the Schurr did not run up the score…..if they did the score would have been 70 something to 10……….you must be a Trump Supporter…….
Sgv Insider….I disagree with your comment about the1st round ….Schurr has made it to the 2nd round 3 yrs in a row …Montebello has done likewise…..Mr. Sgv Insider get your facts right , know what your talking about and let the kids play and enjoy and work toward their goals…no matter what Division their in…….:that’s what sports is about…you tripping on Divisions…….Now matter what the division the dream will rise to the top and move on…..

Time for principle Russell to elevate the football program and see what he wants from it. It may be time to move on from coach Eric after this game on Friday.
That quote above is for you Mr Phill….chilll
Who made you the quote police…..people slamming and saying stuff is what this is all about …..if you do not want to reading what people say ….Don’t click on……..
The outclassed Mark Keppel…..next week you can use those same words describing Alhambra…..
Why do you people even talk about Alhambra even coming close to a win …What you should be talking about is the margin they are going to lose by…….the stupid cloud that was hovering over Bell Garden has moved to the city of Alhambra…….
@ Moorover: Yes, life is full of ironies. We’ll play this last regular-season game and see how it goes.
Schurr has a talent-laden, explosive team. But, it might end up being a pretty good game. I can’t imagine Alhambra’s seniors giving less than their best effort in what will probably be their last appearance on a high-school field.
And, the sophomores and juniors on our squad should be looking for something to build on for next season. What could be better than a good performance against a superior team?
Football Fan is a marvel: if players called their own penalties, the game would turn into a brawl almost instantly. Scratch that idea.
Many people are not aware that CIF recently told officials to increase the number of flags thrown, particularly of the personal foul nature, in a move to make football kinder and gentler. This is a philosophically-inspired move, part of the much-discussed move to get rid of football entirely. This movement is not going away anytime soon.
What could be tried is to reduce the number of zebras from five to three, or from five to four. My ideas is that with fewer flag-throwers, we’d have fewer flags (and shorter mid-field bull sessions). Sure, some clear violations would not get called, but isn’t that the case already? What do you want: every single thing called, or a reasonably-paced game?
@er
Little ranchito got there butts handed to them. The last we here of er!! I know would of could of should of!
@Moody
You nailed it! From the start of the game when the boy began the chant pre-game… i knew it was going to be a long night. The team has no pride! They looked flat and over it already… what a waste… La Serna came out and smacked them in the mouth… then they folded… mostly ALL seniors tapped out! It’s a shame that this class didn’t grasp that BluePride Ranch way attitude… it’s a shame … but they have had no stability in 4years this is there 3rd Head coach … they have no faith or trust in the program … then a incident during the week doesn’t help them trust “the ranch” … Friday night LA SERNA comes and broke the seniors… it’s unfortunate the seniors reacted this way , it’s sad to see Medrano running with them and trying to get them pumped and chanting with the … it’s sad when Medrano is telling the boys don’t give up! Believe ! Believe … it’s sad that it came to that. …. yes I know he did what a head coach is supposed to do , I agree. … but to me , that’s something the captains should have done, the team has no leaders… it was a mess… a big mess. I’m glad Coaches began to put the underclass men in and they played with less talent but more heart and pride … put up 2-TD’s . That made me proud as an alum and the future or The Ranch… we got the right person leading our boys … I’m excited for the years to come… I don’t think it’s gonna be long before ER takes back DRL… but then again I’m biased lol …
too bad we aren’t on Almont league … we’d be league champs this year and the years to come lol.. or D20 and take CIF… lol (that was my petty post lol.. be humble schurr.. don’t start acting like Arroyo thinking your better than you are bc you win D12, there is a reason your not higher in division, and there is a reason you don’t play better teams.)
I’m throwing in the towel on ER Football, but this Thursday is our last game … no playoffs in our future… plus we have seniors that don’t want to play anymore, don’t let them! Bench them !!! Let the juniors sophomores and even get the Freshman some action under the lights!!! Light that fire inside the underclasses and go full speed into the off season and don’t look back!!! Keep #8 I know he’s a senior and played hard till the end.. but I know he is raised right!
@moody – regards to PR TC coaches… idk .. I think it’s a positive having them … but it won’t work unless you allow them to coach there way… don’t restrict there teaching methods … if they can teach 10yr & 12yr olds a certain way and WIN year in and year out… well they must be doing something right!
Enough of this BS , protect little Johnny, you can’t talk like that, you can’t BS!!! This is football! Toughen up , learn respect! And Win as a TEAM. Brotherhood. Play for your brother not yourself.
In spite of a 3-6 record, there is a shot at a 3rd place as long as La Serna beats Cal and ER takes care of business over Whittier there would be a 3-way tie between ER, Cal and Whittier and with the new CIF playoff rules no coin flips needed however we will probably line up against a monster and that’s all she wrote. To sum it up, QB play has been too inconsistent or consistently bad, defensively the loss of #55 Gomez was a huge almost back breaking, the lack of size at the DB spots hurt a lot. The lower levels have been fairly good, frosh level needed a bit more discipline and they would have competed for league, they have a small RB who can absolutely fly. We have a good staff just don’t have the players yet and didn’t have the senior leadership, next 2 years ER will really start making their push as long as QB play holds up, we were truly spoiled with QB studs like Sanchez, Araujo, Perea, Chandler, nowhere to go but up.
Not true that ER season may be over. If they beat Whittier this week, it will be a 3 way tie for third. Then they could flip to third place and go to the playoffs.
The game would be better and safer if the kids called their own penalties. The officials routinely make the game less safe with their erroneous flags and ridiculous explanations. When I say they are making things up it isn’t a rumor I have first hand knowledge. They miss the big stiff becomes they are more worried about the little stuff. Ask any coach in the SGV about the explanations they get for flags and it will make you laugh.
@ Anonymous: I appreciate your sense of humor. But, as the final score indicates, Alhambra was never in any danger of losing to Keppel.
Now, a good showing by the Moors at Schurr High School next Friday evening would be big. An improbable win would be huge, but I’m not predicting.
Oh yes, I remember that mess. What an embarrassment, not one administration in the many schools that young man attended had the integrity to say ” no”… I played along side the guy that either lived in or around our neighborhood or from our middle school. Guys u knew and grew up with…
How ironic that next week’s Alhambra game could end with a score of 54-8 as well.
@ H.S. FOLLOWER: I agree with you 100% that the CIF’s “30-day” transfer rule is a travesty. And, the Southern Section office has had difficulty enforcing even that weak rule. (You might recall the Kurt Scoby case a few years ago.)
“Transfermania” and the blatant recruiting that’s going on at certain schools—both public and private—are out of control. I think you’re right about the impact these practices have had in destroying the relative balance that used to exist in high school football.
Score correction: Alhambra 54, Mark Keppel 8
Senior tailback Salman Gurung carried the ball 10 times for 209 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Moors to victory over an outclassed Mark Keppel team.
Alhambra rushed for 301 of its 310 total yards.
Defensive back Abraham Campbell scored the Moors’ final TD on a 69-yard interception return on the last play of the third quarter.
Keppel quarterback Manuel Diaz completed 10 of 19 passes for 92 yards, but he got picked off twice. The Aztecs managed only 149 yards in total offense on Alhambra’s homecoming night.
The Moors improved their record to 2-2 in the Almont League, and to 4-4 overall. The Aztecs are 0-4 in league and 0-9 overall.
From T. Peterson: Thanks. Corrected.
Well said sir.
Me again. Next we blame the coach’s for taking these kids for their own EGO… let’s not forget the parents that allow this to happen. It’s also common for kids from same family/household attend different HS to play the sport the prefer. Afterthought on CIF, they also allow private schools to RECRUIT. Enough said.
Almont is weak. Del Rio is fast following. No disrespect to any program in those leagues… All this can be put on CIF . They applied the 30 day sit rule. That ridiculous rule allows kids to transfer to just about any school to chase a title… it’s now common for kids to be at 3 different HS in their 4 years of HS.
Oops…
Meant to say-” El Rancho’s promising season…”
Go Dons!!
El Rancho’s promising may have come to an end last night. It is obvious that this team lacked the depth, experience, and team speed to compete with the likes of La Serna and Santa Fe. But most importantly, what this team appear to lack was team leadership. Nevertheless, the program seems to be headed in the right direction. They have the right person at the helm, but it will take a few more years before they can compete for another league title. One suggestion is to shore up the coaching staff with personnel that commands the respect of the players. And please, stop bringing in rehashed coaches from the PR Dons and Wolverines. My nephew has a couple of years left and would hope that he get to experience a league title my brother and I did back in the day.
@ Dr Phill
When people come on here talking smack and they get their butts handed to them… they are going to rub it in…no its not a cif championship but thats the way its always ben on here.
Maybe it’s just me, I just don’t think anyone should blame the refs when your team lost by 46 points.
That’s right no one has one anything yet wait till Dec. If your team is still playing then come here and clown.But until then shut up people let these kids play Wow….. All this we Beat BG … we Beat this team we Beat this one so what. Hold on….
@sgv insider, LOL! According to you, everyone who has a different opinion than you lives in our mom’s basement. That may be true, but I am willing to bet my mom’s basement is a lot better than the house you are squatting in.
@Football fan, thank you for thinking of me. Thirty flags and not one was warranted? Here is an idea, start a petition and let your school district know you don’t need any refs doing your school’s games. You can just play it out in the parking lot with the last man standing wins. Oh wait, didn’t they make a couple of movies about the sport you want to play? It’s called Mad Max!
So I’ve shared my time on the gridiron (playing and coaching) and for some reason, I have now found myself on these damn blogs. LOL. I must say it is pretty entertaining.
With that said, When you start to compare these local area teams specifically in the Almont and Del Rio Leagues, who is the standout?
Schurr barely beat Whittier.
Montebello beat Whittier in a close one but lost to Schurr in a similar one.
Santa Fe stumped La Serna but had a battle against El Rancho.
El Rancho beats Montebello and Bell Gardens.
La Serna beats up on El Rancho & Whittier………
When you do a comparison between the two leagues, I think Beltran’s old Lancers at La Serna still seem to be up there despite their loss to Santa Fe. With regards to Beltran rebuilding the BG program, it is obvious they are headed in the right direction. I guess we will see how they do against Montebello this week.
Any thoughts Mr. Peterson?
