Game Night: Week 10

Darnell Williams and Burbank have a rivalry game with Burroughs. (Photo by Doug Brown).

All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated:

Thursday November 2

Pacific

Arcadia (6-3) at Crescenta Valley (8-1) (Glendale)

Last Year: Crescenta Valley 49-28

Crescenta Valley is trying to finish off the regular season in style and secure second in the Pacific. Arcadia can also take second with a victory and gain some huge momentum heading into the playoffs. There will plenty of points put on the board but most of them will be courtesy of the Falcons. Arcadia is good but CV is just better. Their offense is too much for the Apaches to handle. Falcons gearing up for a post season run.

Crescenta Valley 38 Arcadia 17

Friday November 3

Almont

Montebello (6-3) at Bell Gardens  (5-4)

Last Year: Montebello 44-0

We saw where Bell Gardens was at last week in the loss to Schurr. The Lancers will be good…next year. This year is still a rebuilding process. They won’t be able to keep up with Montebello. The Oilers nearly matched Schurr stride for stride. Montebello wins big.

Montebello 35 Bell Gardens 10

**

Angelus

Cathedral (8-1) at St. Francis (9-0)

Last Year: Cathedral 24-17

The game everybody has been waiting for in the Angelus League. These two have been on a collision course since August. Both teams can score and also have quick athletic defenses. Both teams destroyed everybody else in the Angelus League. Ironically both teams beat St. Paul by the identical score of 24-7 and they both dropped 49 on La Salle. You can probably flip a coin to decide the winner. The Golden Knights are at home, and that’s big in this game, and it just seems like it’s their turn. Cathedral leads early in the fourth but St. Francis rallies late to get the win.  The Angelus is golden.

St. Francis 28 Cathedral 24

**

Hacienda

Los Altos (7-2) at Diamond Ranch (6-3)

Last Year: Los Altos 29-13

Second place is on the line in the Hacienda. It could be a big game especially when it comes down to playoff seedings. Los Altos beat West Covina last week but it was a fight until the fourth quarter. Earlier this year D Ranch gave Charter Oak all it wanted. Both teams are physical and it should be a hard hitting game. It could go either way but on paper the Panthers look stronger. DR…close.

Diamond Ranch 21 Los Altos 17

**

Montview

Nogales (8-1) at Azusa (5-4) (Citrus College)

Last Year: Azusa 21-7
The Montview league title is on the line as both teams enter the contest at 4-0. Nogales is a team flying under the radar coming in 8-1 at overall. Last year Azusa derailed the Nobles on their way to the post season. Nogales is looking for a little payback. It could come down to who makes a big play late. Nogales has to rally but gets it done in the fourth quarter. Nobles win the Montview.

Nogales 24 Azusa 21

**

Pacific

Burbank (7-2) at Burroughs (4-4) (Burbank)

Last Year: Burbank 36-7
Always a great rivalry that gets the city of Burbank’s blood pumping every year. Anything can happen in a game like this. Burroughs has been up and down coming into the game at .500 while Burbank is on the verge of running the Pacific League table. The Indians will come out pumped and ready to rock looking to upset the Burbank apple cart. But in the end the Bulldogs will have too much. The Bank finishes off a perfect year in league in Head Coach Adam Colman’s first season.

Burbank 27 Burroughs 13

**

Muir (5-4) vs. Pasadena (2-7) – Turkey Tussle (Rose Bowl)

Last Year: Muir 18-6

Pasadena is playing for pride only. The Bulldogs are already making plans for next season with a 2-7 record under their belt. However they could throw a wrench in Muir’s season by knocking off the Mustangs in the annual Turkey Tussle. Muir can finish no higher than fourth in the Pacific but with a win over Pasadena and a 6-4 record the Stangs could be in line for a playoff berth. Pasadena may make it interesting for awhile but Muir should make enough plays to get the win. The Mustangs walk off of the Rose Bowl turf a winner.

Muir 31 Pasadena 14

**

Non League

Sierra Canyon (8-1) at Paraclete (8-1) (Antelope Valley College)

Last Year: Sierra Canyon 35-7

The game of the week (the year?) is at Antelope Valley College this week. If you have some free time this Friday night and want to see some quality high school football make the drive out to Lancaster to see the Trailblazers and the Spirits battle for supremacy. Both teams have rolled through their Gold Coast Leagues. Sierra Canyon lost to Westlake Village back in Zero Week while Paraclete fell to Oaks Christian in Week Two. Both teams are powerhouses. It’s a pick’em game. The long bus ride may take a toll on the Trailblazers. The Spirits prevail at home.

Paraclete 28 Sierra Canyon 21

Go ahead and enjoy it while we are down… you must be sour from getting your a55 kicked by the ranch IF you ever played in HS … LOL… or your hate bc your kid got whooped every year by the PRDons .. LOL.

No excuses this year… and like I’ve said … the boys played … we lost and I won’t discredit a victory from other kids , they earned it … we had our opportunities and didn’t take advantage.

The beauty of it all for myself … I’m a Alum, fan and supporter or ER …. I still have next year and the year after that to cheer my team on . I can only hope the underclassmen this year learned from this years seniors … the good and the bad. As for the seniors, welcome to the bleachers…

Let’s be clear… Del Río League is still one tough a55 league ….
FACT: Cal-hi 4th place team Whittier 3rd place team… both were one play away from beating Almont league champions lol … and both got creamed by SF and LS…. so again… one could only imagine the score in that scenario… sit and chew on that ER hater. Be realistic, be humble

I’ve said it before, as freshmen this senior class was 1-9 and coming in most of us realists knew we would not hold up at QB and it happened exactly as we thought. What else do you want to hear? ER has never came on here guaranteeing anything, the only time ER fans were actively commenting was when Schurr recruiters baited them, 3 red zone fails meant turning gear in vs a DRL title, Nothing else to be said other than good luck everyone in the playoffs.

What a dummy, ER was in a rebuilding year and frankly overachieved this season they just couldn’t close out games and are turning their gear in. You’re a fool if you think the tide isn’t going to turn shortly under medrano.

DRanch handed Los Altos a big fat donut. Los Altos is heading down hill fast. Heard some DRanch coach’s saying it wasn’t hard to beat a team that ran the same plays their lower levels ran yesterday. Battled the cold for a game that wasn’t even worth watching. Los Altos should be one and done come playoffs.

I’m not sure if I’m in the minority or not, but I think Medrano is the right guy to lead El Rancho for the near future. I think with a few more years under his belt, he’ll be assert himself much better. But that being said, like it or not, the lack of poise that his QB displayed at the end of the games, in the three pivotal losses to SF, Ca, and Whittier are reflection on the coach’s own lack of composure. Why he did not run the ball last night on two seperate occasions, inside the 10 yd line is beyond me; especially since the QB has shown a tendency to panic all season long, going back to the first game of the season. ER…..here you go,”the boys played tough””we were in the red zone”. Hey bud, don’t all teams play tough. Come on man, it’s funny to hear the excuses. Always saying “we are rebuilding”. That’s a lame excuse. All teams that don’t do well that’s all you hear coming from their mouths. Look at the facts….it’s a terrible season. You are only better than Pioneer. You have 1 league title in 10 seasons. La Serna owns the Del Rio. Go wash the unis and turn in the gear tomorrow. Talk to you next season.

@ha who’s quite? We’re still here. This team was competitive all year long. 3 of our league losses we had the ball in the red zone w an opportunity to win. And against Cal gave up the go ahead TD w less than 30 seconds to go. At the end of the day an L is an L. But in order to be successful the Dons will have to finish those ball games. Cal, Santa Fe and Whittier earned those wins. Beltran and Medrano are not overrated. If you really believe that than you have no idea about coaching. Whoever your team is best of luck

@Del Rio Fan do you know what a bottom dweller is? Before this season El Rancho was the only team other than La Serna to have won league over the last 5 seasons. If you look at performance record on the field this is where the schools rank over those 5 seasons : La Serna, Santa Fe, El Rancho, Whittier, Cal and Pioneer. This year the only team in league that dominated the Ranch was La Serna. The reality is ER couldn’t close out ball games. Hats off to Cal, Santa Fe and Whittier for keeping us out of the end zone w the game on the line. But to say a bottom dweller come on. That would still be with Whittier and Cal. But with the removal of Pioneer does make the league much more balanced. Del Rio is much stronger than the Almont that’s for sure

Cathedral quarterback Bryce Young matches passes with St. Francis quarterback Darius Perrantes. Both teams have speed. Which offensive line steps up may be the determining factor. The pick: Cathedral. It will be a great game. Just let the kids play!!!!!!

I represent every people and school on this blog that isn’t cathedral. Excuses equal fear and giving your pregame excuses mean you guys must be terrified for what is about to happen. Can’t wait for the pre game excuses you guys come up with next week. The football where slippery, it was to cold for the kids to play, they stadium light where not LED sufficient, the goal post 2 degrees off to the left. And my personal favorite NOBODY likes us so we don’t get a fair game. Game hasn’t even started yet and you guys are already crying. Pathetic chumps. No one is denying that we are trying to rebuild. It doesn’t happen over night. Mr. Beltran is doing a hell of a job though. Yeah, I’m disappointed that he got ejected last game, but we are still excited about his work and what he is doing with BG Football. Keep up the great work coach. As a parent, we teach our kids to learn from these challenges.

In regards to this Friday versus Montebello, we need to make some big adjustments from last week. Or else its going to be another long night. The Oilers are good.

Whether we win the lower levels or not, that’s irrelevant to the success of our varsity program. If the lower levels win league champs, I’ll be proud of them. But that’s about it.
