Game Night: Week 10

Darnell Williams and Burbank have a rivalry game with Burroughs. (Photo by Doug Brown).

All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated:

Thursday November 2

Pacific

Arcadia (6-3) at Crescenta Valley (8-1) (Glendale)

Last Year: Crescenta Valley 49-28

Crescenta Valley is trying to finish off the regular season in style and secure second in the Pacific. Arcadia can also take second with a victory and gain some huge momentum heading into the playoffs. There will plenty of points put on the board but most of them will be courtesy of the Falcons. Arcadia is good but CV is just better. Their offense is too much for the Apaches to handle. Falcons gearing up for a post season run.

Crescenta Valley 38 Arcadia 17

Friday November 3

Almont

Montebello (6-3) at Bell Gardens  (5-4)

Last Year: Montebello 44-0

We saw where Bell Gardens was at last week in the loss to Schurr. The Lancers will be good…next year. This year is still a rebuilding process. They won’t be able to keep up with Montebello. The Oilers nearly matched Schurr stride for stride. Montebello wins big.

Montebello 35 Bell Gardens 10

**

Angelus

Cathedral (8-1) at St. Francis (9-0)

Last Year: Cathedral 24-17

The game everybody has been waiting for in the Angelus League. These two have been on a collision course since August. Both teams can score and also have quick athletic defenses. Both teams destroyed everybody else in the Angelus League. Ironically both teams beat St. Paul by the identical score of 24-7 and they both dropped 49 on La Salle. You can probably flip a coin to decide the winner. The Golden Knights are at home, and that’s big in this game, and it just seems like it’s their turn. Cathedral leads early in the fourth but St. Francis rallies late to get the win.  The Angelus is golden.

St. Francis 28 Cathedral 24

**

Hacienda

Los Altos (7-2) at Diamond Ranch (6-3)

Last Year: Los Altos 29-13

Second place is on the line in the Hacienda. It could be a big game especially when it comes down to playoff seedings. Los Altos beat West Covina last week but it was a fight until the fourth quarter. Earlier this year D Ranch gave Charter Oak all it wanted. Both teams are physical and it should be a hard hitting game. It could go either way but on paper the Panthers look stronger. DR…close.

Diamond Ranch 21 Los Altos 17

**

Montview

Nogales (8-1) at Azusa (5-4) (Citrus College)

Last Year: Azusa 21-7
The Montview league title is on the line as both teams enter the contest at 4-0. Nogales is a team flying under the radar coming in 8-1 at overall. Last year Azusa derailed the Nobles on their way to the post season. Nogales is looking for a little payback. It could come down to who makes a big play late. Nogales has to rally but gets it done in the fourth quarter. Nobles win the Montview.

Nogales 24 Azusa 21

**

Pacific

Burbank (7-2) at Burroughs (4-4) (Burbank)

Last Year: Burbank 36-7
Always a great rivalry that gets the city of Burbank’s blood pumping every year. Anything can happen in a game like this. Burroughs has been up and down coming into the game at .500 while Burbank is on the verge of running the Pacific League table. The Indians will come out pumped and ready to rock looking to upset the Burbank apple cart. But in the end the Bulldogs will have too much. The Bank finishes off a perfect year in league in Head Coach Adam Colman’s first season.

Burbank 27 Burroughs 13

**

Muir (5-4) vs. Pasadena (2-7) – Turkey Tussle (Rose Bowl)

Last Year: Muir 18-6

Pasadena is playing for pride only. The Bulldogs are already making plans for next season with a 2-7 record under their belt. However they could throw a wrench in Muir’s season by knocking off the Mustangs in the annual Turkey Tussle. Muir can finish no higher than fourth in the Pacific but with a win over Pasadena and a 6-4 record the Stangs could be in line for a playoff berth. Pasadena may make it interesting for awhile but Muir should make enough plays to get the win. The Mustangs walk off of the Rose Bowl turf a winner.

Muir 31 Pasadena 14

**

Non League

Sierra Canyon (8-1) at Paraclete (8-1) (Antelope Valley College)

Last Year: Sierra Canyon 35-7

The game of the week (the year?) is at Antelope Valley College this week. If you have some free time this Friday night and want to see some quality high school football make the drive out to Lancaster to see the Trailblazers and the Spirits battle for supremacy. Both teams have rolled through their Gold Coast Leagues. Sierra Canyon lost to Westlake Village back in Zero Week while Paraclete fell to Oaks Christian in Week Two. Both teams are powerhouses. It’s a pick’em game. The long bus ride may take a toll on the Trailblazers. The Spirits prevail at home.

Paraclete 28 Sierra Canyon 21

Owned PR last 5 years before kicked out of conference you say … could that very well be the 5 years that TC began and everyone who was anything left PR to form TC and TC would own have smashed PR and Indians with one year younger teams … lol

I’m still waiting for that Pico Rivera parent to tell me what montebello Indian team they were on … lol
Also why didn’t you pick ER??? Please enlighten us

    @Resident,
Yes the very Montebello Indians that historically cheated by hosting illegal practices in the off season in full gear and many times in many seasons played with illegal players that were older. I guess the win at all costs has it merits. Cheaters gonna cheat

Obvious PR Don. Montebello Indians owned PR Dons the last 5 years in SGJAA before leaving the league. You talking about that special midget team that tied Charter Oak? The team that had Vital and KROD. Both who transferred to Pico to make that team what it was. Montebello won 3 championships (2 divisions in one year) their last two years in that league before departing.

Marano Beach is what you grew up playing in and what taught you to be the person you are … so unless you think your a failure in life … I’d say PR did a good job . And if you are a failure then it simply in your own decision .. don’t plane PR blame your parents who didn’t instill good values so you can make the right decisions.

People like you is the problem … but by you saying you choose CANTWELL over your hometown school ER? LMAO! ROFL!!!! LOL … prime example how you are one of the parents that got fed BS …. you ate it !
Gave you diarrhea real quick… luckily you realized early it was BS and made a smarter move to go to Schurr! HAHAHA
you must have done your homework before that decision bc you knew very well schurr had a great freshman squad. So you wanted to jump on the ship before you got left at the dock with cantwell lol …

BUT please… please … enlighten me
WHEN AND WHAT CHAMPIONSHIP DID THE INDIANS WIN???
I’d like to know … seriously lol

Leave TC for montebello ??? Why did you do that when you could have traveled south on Passons and been on that special Midget team from Pico Rivera Dons that was loaded with talent. Since your all for jumping on all star teams … that team had NUMEROUS studs that play for multiple schools

Smart move to Indians ? Lol … please explain that to me …

Yes we do my friend ER18. He played at twin Cities and then got smart and went to play with the Indians and got championship. He then went CSHS (not ER) and transferred to Schurr his sophomore year.
We will try to stay far away from your pond (aka Marano beach) in the future.
Schurr is doing what all schools are doing by trying to recruit kids. Winning matters and is the only job security for coaches. So, they better do what they can to keep their jobs. Medrano will be doing the same. I guranteed that too.

I can fact check you on this … PR DONS “elite” are pico kids .. go to pico schools … and the other kids that travel from other cities drive down to PR for a reason…. the parents won’t have any issues leaving the kids to attend ERHS … but what ruins everything is these “other” schools simply recruiting … let’s be honest … and the parents will take little Johnny to whatever schools BS taste the best .. lol …. see fact check again!!! ER don’t recruit! ER DONT put parents on guest list and vip parking and invite kids to sidelines and bus rides free shirts , cleats, socks , food and everything else “other” schools use to recruit a child .

I agree , this has been going on for years … slime foul is a pro at it …

LEAVE THE PICO YOUTH to continue and play together with there friends , family , Football brothers

TC…if they are not Pico kids then why play for TC? It’s not like they are winning championships … Why drive from another city ?

Of course I wish we barely beat them … and I agree a win is a win .. this is why I won’t take anything away from them … our boys had every opportunity to get the W and we choked … I accept that … BUT facts and history still show Who the bottom feeders are in DRL … to get technical and I’ll give the ER haters a bone .. I accept ER Cal Pioneer are the bottom feeders for 2017 season of DRL … but I can assure you ER won’t be down for long

BG, we again couldn’t close … trust me and if you saw film … you would see how ER kept BG in the game .

You say no one wants out kids ? LMAO !
SCHURR!!! Is all over our youth teams in Pico !!! Recruiting left and right !!! So please !!! Get your facts straight … your taking PICO RIVERA kids that should be going to there home school EL RANCHO …

I won’t put my foot in my mouth and call SCHURR out on this next comment but …. and I SAY BUT… I’d still bet money on the fact that SCHURR HAS KIDS ON THIS YEARS TEAM FROM PICO RIVERA

SO AGAIN … STAY OUT OUR POND 🙂 thank you , good luck in playoffs

I can’t deny that many of the elite players at TC and PR are from other cities because these are leagues where the emphasis has been put on win at all costs over “lets truly develop our programs,” they know exactly who they are. Not all good Pico kids head elsewhere, just last season 5 All CIF players all played at ER for 4 years and came from TC and PR. In all reality ER has barely lost any actual Pico talent this decade, if so please tell me who we have lost who has gone on to do anything special at their hs.. ER actually is just about on par with La Serna in terms of education, graduation rates and sending kids to 4 year schools, St Paul education is garbage. In spite of a 3-7 season at the varsity level the lower levels have finally showed some progress something that had been non existent for about 5 years.

ELRancho, No one steals your players. have you seen the rosters on your TC and PR Dons football teams? All the “elite” players come from a differnt city. Who are you kidding. If a kid in Pico is doing well he is looking elsewhere to go play..not ERHS. Yes, they usually come back due to not working out at other private schools. Look at how many players end up at St Paul? ERHS has nothing to offer those players. Look around your city, all the better players have gone outside of ERHS. This practice has been happening for many many years. So dont come on here and say a 3-7 team will attract some talent because these days everyone wants a winner. Go turn in Jr’s gear. Enjoy the offseason.

Nope, he played almost the entire game, quit crying, remember your QB had to be carted off the field because he was absolutely leveled before the half!! All those kids played the entire game until the last drive of the game they gave loera the rock. Head to head y’all got your DELETED kicked and it could have been uglier. 35-7 and haven’t beat us in a decade, I could care less about any result you had vs any other team, head to head DELETED whooping just like it’s been this entire decade. A doormat 3-7 non playoff team kicked the crap out of y’all that says a lot about your doormat League, La Serna and Santa Fe would running clock y’all, well the DRL doormat running clocked y’all so LS and Santa Fe would probably make y’all forfeit. 2 months later you want to act like it never happened lol. Go buy a ticket to our playoff game while your team will be getting ready for next season. I guess your into moral victories. At the end of Day your team is just a punching bag for everyone else in your league. We beat Whittier pretty easy and you guys lost to them so wake up. I didn’t say we would’ve won. I said it would’ve been a different story if we were at full strength. It who cares? You guys don’t have a game 11 and we do. The doors open at 6 if you want a good seat. ….lol

Amat 3rd string usually means Del Rio stud, at least that’s how it’s been the last few Amat transfers we’ve gotten, Levi Aguilar comes to mind and he started at Amat for a few years on loaded teams with Vaughns and Sidney. No need to bash a kid for trying to play at that level but simply choosing to play with his old teammates. Not once did I hear lancer bash any Amat coaches or staff.

Yeah yeah yeah it’s all been said. When you throw too much you say you should run. When you run too much you say throw the ball. Like I said it’s way to second guess up in the stands. Before you criticize walk a mile in a coaches shoes. They put in a tremendous about of time. Let the coaches coach. Support the coaches in good games and bad. I hate to say this but we in the stands always say when the team has a great game and wins it’s the boys. When the team has a bad game and lose its the coaches. No disrespect Moody but facts are facts

@ Oiler nation, I agree with you 100%. No one pulls their kid from a D1 school to go ER. Totally means he wasn’t going to step in between the white lines at Amat. You need to be realistic when sending your kid to a D1 school. He better be stud or else you end up riding pine and then transfer to another school. Then they get to the new school and start bashing the coaching staff, school, etc for being wronged. It happens every year to sucker parents who think their little Johnny is a stud.

Tapia got hurt yet missed 1 series in the 1st quarter and then got pulled when he threw that int in the red zone with an 80 yard run back at the end of the 3rd. K-Rod played the whole game and got punished, Vitale played the whole game and got punished, loera played the whole game, who else that we don’t know about didn’t play because I know all those kids very well and they all played. It’s funny you’ve had like 2 months to post about the game and you were nowhere to be found because your team got taken to the woodshed and maybe was hurt because we put a hurting on them. El Rancho has now outscored montebello 76-14 in the last 2 meeetings and won 15 of the last 17 contests and hasn’t beat the ranch in a decade. Please shut up…

As for you son leaving Amat for ER is only because he has no future to play there. Let’s be real.. nobody would ever do that if he had opportunity’s. You can’t compare those two programs. You sound insane…

Congrats at surplanting Whittier and Cal as a bottom feeder with Pioneer.

Wait Just a freaking minute, you want to compare playing in the weakest league in high school the Almont to what Medrano has done in the hacienda and Del Rio league, when Amat struggled earlier in the year the word Medrano started flying in la puente, he is a 32 year old with 6 years head coaching experience including league titles in the hacienda league and a semi final run in 2014 with Bonita. In his 1st year at the ranch which was after a dismal 1-9 under former Salesian coach Hiatt, Medrano led the dons to a quarter final appearance and 5 ER players were named All CIF. But sure go ahead and pump your chest about winning against Keppel and San Gabriel and playing in D12. I sent my son to Amat over ER, but hands down Medrano and staff is leaps and bounds beyond anything in the Almont, don’t be surprised if Medrano calls you, sets up a game and then does a number on you like on Montebello. Yes my son is heading to the ranch this spring to play for Medrano.

Okay coach, so I guess you are the expert because you get to give Medrano your input. Nice going. You are not the only to have played or coach. A run pass offense is effective if there is a chance the Qb will run the ball from time to time. And run it forward not backwards. You had a Qb that is more effective in the pocket, so give him protection instead of rolling out to his weak side. Better yet, why not give Weeks or Amaya the ball on a run or swing pass, when they still had time. (3:11)

You obviously don’t understand football. He offense is a run pass option predicated off of reads. I get a kick out of people who in the stands that think they know what is happening on the field. Fact: cypress isn’t even the best team in D9 and they would cream MVs top 20 with the exception on 3 teams maybe 5

ER pre-season schedule should be as follows
    Bell Gardens – old rivalry
    Montebello – old rivalry
Schurr- shut them up, beat them.. so they stop trying to steal our kids and lie how they are better LOL
