So, is this event open to senior citizens? If a busload of geriatrics pulls up for instruction, will the Schurr staff accommodate them, same as the potential transfers?

It is NOT our job to police what it is or what isn’t going on at football camps! That’s CIF’s job. If you have legitimate proof of wrong doing, take it to CIF’s office and they will hash it out! Or, you can show up at the camp on Saturday and take it up directly with the coaches there!

Not sure what other sports you and some of the others think are available now for the next 3 months, but with your negative bs you could probably benefit from attending one of these camps. The boys don’t wear helmets, no pads, no contact, they can bring their team mates and have some fun. It’s not a tournament. Oh and by the way it’s free and there are no fights at Jude’s camps. It’s about camaraderie and team building and respect. None of this “mumbo jumbo” negativity like what’s coming out of your head.

Oh sorry, Body by TRA. The guy who left a kid stranded after a car accident. Body By TRA, Ground Zero, Top Notch Training, Champion Training, Match Makers, Prime Time Polynesian, Frat Boys (or is it Boyz?), and now Team Air Raid…. Kids should be working out with their teammates or playing other sports as opposed to doing these “showcases.” College coaches don’t care about them and these pylon tournaments and other Mumbo jumbo are ways to fatten pockets and illegally recruit. Those things always break out into fights too because the kids don’t act appropriately and the guys running it let it happen.

There may be a few coaches that have open clinics and are so pure of heart that they will give of their time to put on a show like this. And believe you me this takes a lot of time way above the day of the clinic. Those pure of heart guys though come from the Pioneers, Keppels and Sierra Vistas of the world. If you don’t think relationships and contacts of varying degrees are not the underlying motive for already strong programs I got a bridge to sell you. Coaches are all having their teeth whitened for these things.

@RamsFan…you are right, there is a lot of time between now and the start of next football season. Which is why my main concern for this camp is the timing of it all. This is a very good way to get young athletes injured. I would rather see the coaches conduct a strength and conditioning clinic in December. We need experienced coaches to educate parents and young athletes on how to take care of their bodies for competitive competition. Save the actual football stuff for after January (at a minimum). A young athlete will get no long term benefits by participating in a clinic held in December. The coaches on the other hand, get to take a look at incoming players and may swing a few out of area transfers. It allows for families to start making arrangements in order to relocate with a valid change of address and avoid possible 30 day sit out periods. Again I don’t want to rush to judgment, but this “camp” has all the makings of a recruiting camp.

I decided to chime in here because it seems that X-box playing is under attack. Who says videos games don’t involve “competition and consistency?” The character-building comes with the daily decision to force oneself, no matter the distractions, to sit-down and work those sticks.
Along those lines, did it occur to anyone that every time Tim posts a new topic on this site, it’s like a mini-camp, in which he hopes you’ll put-down the video games and come compete with the other B.S. artists? It’s also open to anyone, and it’s free.

There’s a long time between the end of the football season for most schools and the start of the next season. These “clinics” fill a need for those boys who live and breath football. Get up off the couch, put down the controllers and go work out with some buddies in an organized camp. Is there undue influence? Probably some. But isn’t the benefit worth it? Parents can just say no to it. Is Jude involved with this camp? How do you know? If he is, I would say, from personal experience, let your boy go because Jude is one of the most positive influences your boy will experience. When Jude was at San Gabriel his camps were phenomenal. Other schools coaches joining in with college players to teach and motivate. My son wasn’t influenced, he was instructed and motivated to be a better player and person.

I know plenty of high school and youth coaches who donate their time to teach the game of football simply because they love the game. I have no problem with a coach running a “free camp” in their community. But we must also realize that many coaches are in fact running theses camps as recruiting tools. I don’t know the true intent of these coaches (at this camp), so I don’t want to pass judgement on them. With that being said, the red flag that pops up in my mind is why is a youth football camp is being held on December 9th? For many kids, their pop warner season just ended. The next 3 months should be rest and recovery time. To remain active, the kids should either be participating in a different sport or engaged in a resistance training and conditioning program…not attending a football camp. Any experienced coach should know that. So my gut feeling says this camp is for recruiting purposes.

Either way a student can transfer for athletic reasons now so not understanding all this hate. All we ask as a rival that if given the info by another MHS or another school that MVS continue to post their free workouts too because they are coming. Fair?

From MVS Staff: We will be happy to post info on camps from other schools and coaching staffs. Just sent it to us at tim@midvalleysports.com or duane@midvalleysports.com and we will get it posted! Please send it as a picture with the info contained it the picture!

Only difference between Schurr and BP is Jude doesn’t have to play OC team in league and Schurr is in that weak JV division. Even with the guys they had at BP they couldn’t win a ring and only beat La Habra once in 8 years. Why? Great recruiters but not so great X’s and O’s.

giving to your program is one thing but i dont see you ponying up to do it on the weekends in December with kids you dont know… so yes its about giving back to the community for these coaches. just cuz they have a camp doesnt mean they are automatically getting 10-20 kids into their programs. do you even understand how hard it is to put on a good camp? i took my son to this camp last week and the next day i went to the st paul one… huge difference in coaching style and organization. both good for my son! and just because we went to both camps doesnt mean we are going to st paul or schurr…. FYI there werent only the schurr coaches there helping out so i dont see how this works for recruiting

Peterson, you don’t seem to understand that yes it is a free camp but in reality it is a recruiting tactic to get kids to a new location so coaches can influence them. This is what every camp is about, plain and simple. Lets just say it is what it is. Don’t defend it. When I host camps, sorry that is my goal is to get some more kids to come to my program.

As a coach it’s just keeping up with the Jones’ and it sucks. If you aren’t recruiting and doing the dog and pony show for your kids, then someone else in. Sales 101. It has nothing to do with GIVING BACK.

Coaches taking time and energy away from their families has been going on since high school football was created, I commend these coaches for what they are doing. The fact that it is free just adds to the over whelming attitude of helping. The problem or “Slippery Slope” begins when this camp becomes a every weekend or twice a month camp, don’t know if this is this camp but when becomes a routine and you have other high schools athletes attending it walks that fine line of undue influence but only if that student athlete transfers. If this is more than once a month Schurr better be prepared for the heat that is going to follow.

Mr. Peterson I am guessing you are an educated man and understand what a man does in the past will reflect what he does in the future. Oliva and Elias did the same thing at Buena Park, ran the exact same camps (but with the help of Coach White) and that is what they used as their recruiting tool to get the kids to their school. How many transfers did Buena Park receive? Do you know the answer Mr. Peterson? Its easy to find out but I am guessing you don’t want to know because it would prove my point. What happened to Buena Park when these coaches left, the program dropped and yes it is because these three gentlemen are excellent coaches but also because their transfers left as well.
