Sometimes, even championship-caliber players can make bad decisions off the field.
A substantial number of football players at the University of Miami (under Jimmy Johnson) got into trouble with the law in the 1980’s. And, some members of the Oklahoma Sooners team had legal issues during the time Barry Switzer was the head coach.
Character is important, and institutional control is a good thing.

Students typically get sent to a continuation high school for the following reasons:
1. Lagging behind on credits for graduation.
2. Behavior issues.
3. Frequent absences from school and/or cutting classes.
Some of these students eventually return to a regular school setting, while others end up graduating from continuation school.
