    @ realdemocrat: Yeah, and yeah.
CIF bears great responsibility for all of this because it made critical changes in its rules and also seems to have a largely hands-off approach toward enforcing the current ones.
The rules changes I’m referring to are the 30-day transfer rule, the repeal of the association rule (which limited team activities to a specific period of the year), and the elimination of the ban on athletically-motivated transfers.
Everything that’s happening now could have been easily foreseen, and I believe it was mostly avoidable.

@ old grandpa: Some disagreements and controversies might never be resolved, but at least the games ought to be fun. I totally agree with you about taking life one day at a time and enjoying it as much as possible.

@ unbelievable just because a kid is looking to transfer to private school doesn’t make him automatically eligible.
Just ask the kids who left Cathedral for BA. Once they found out they would have to sit out half their senior year
they landed in Arcadia with full eligibility.
    Humm…

  5. July 8, 2018 - 6:23 pm | Permalink

If a kid wants to transfer and play for another school why would anyone block it? I will praise a kid if he chooses to ball out in his home school, to there’s nothing like it. But, these kids should not be obligated to invisible contracts because of where their parents chose to live. Maybe, if you had a open system it would force schools to invest in the football program which will attract better kids. Teams like Keppel don’t invest or prioritize football so any talent around that area leave to other schools.
People chastise kids for leaving school, how about you guys complaining about transfers direct your criticism to school board members superintendents principals even local politicians to force them to improve football programs in your area so your kids or your neighbors kids won’t have to leave.

@210 they don’t want to do any research. They see one new face, who may not even be new, and it becomes the entire program. The great majority of the Arcadia FB team has been there for 4 years. Anyone minutely associated with the program knows this. I wish these commenters were as concerned about St Francis, Amat and even La Salle occasionally poaching Arcadia kids. Apparently this practice is ok, but Arcadia shouldn’t have anyone on their team who start there in Kindergarten? Such hypocrites. Ask the few kids who left Arcadia to go to Muir why they keep calling to come back? If anything Arcadia is doing the opposite of recruiting.

@annoymous. I think you meant anonymous, but don’t want to assume. Arcadia sold their sole to who exactly? You may want to do some research they just graduated every single senior. Name me another program this publication covers that can say they graduate 900 kids and is probably the hardest school in the area? Sounds like they are doing something right and the broader community is buying in.

Tired of hearing about transfers and CIF. This stuff is been going on for years! Stop blaming Coaches and CIF start with the school officials and district personnel. Maybe the school or the district needs to step their game up and stop all this madness! Here is another one maybe you parents should step your game up and I’m talking about at your school if you don’t like that little Jermaine is no longer starting or you are getting constant transfers create a committee at your school and go out and make sure every student athlete at your school is following CIF rules! Take pictures, use video, check addresses during late hours and early mornings as well as weekends. Then you would have to do the unthinkable you would have to turn your own school in. Schools say Integrity,Honor and Excellence but look the other way when it comes to winning. Mainly talking about using fake addresses for their athletes to become immediately eligible.

Yes the QB is suppose to be there this week. Its demoralizing to say the least. Some of the blame is on our parents too along with our Admin. Our parents at times can be the worst in the SGV and our admin is too busy to check the validity of the new transfers. Its not the boys fault they are just following their parents lead. After talking to some of the boys yesterday you can already hear it in their tone that they know they will not get any playing time this season and it SUCKS big time.

Couple things to take away from the tournament.
Arcadia has athletes! It’s a huge difference from Arcadia and everyone else who was at that tournament. Even with all the transfers at Schurr or Los Altos they still looked miles away from Arcadia. But when pads come on if it’s between Policky or Singiser, I’m going with Jim. Too much experience.
Monrovia is solid. The QB transfer from SEM is pretty good. Why what that kid want to play in a wing t offense? He and MTown are better off with each other. Rams is setting a goal of 2,000 yards can he do it? Gonna be tough but I’m not gonna doubt him.
CV is in a rebuilding year talent wise but they’re coaching staff has proven time again to be one of the best so I think they’ll be ok.
Los Altos not being able to beat Workman is a story for sure. But it means zilch to LA, means a whole lot to Workman. La has two Athletes that will make some noise. Workman competed, I think that’s a victory already for that staff. Receiver there is legit.
El Rancho looks good talent wise. Good pieces. Coach looks like he’s getting a workout with all those signs. But definitely ER is gonna be in the hunt.
Marshall looked pretty bad, gonna be a long year but MVL is down this year.
Mountain View looked slightly better than Marshall. Definitely don’t look the part. But, let’s see them with pads.
It’s hard to judge Rosemead because they’re gonna pound the rock but didn’t look very good maybe slightly better than MV. I hear they have a RB who wasn’t at the tournament so we’ll see.
SEM looked small but athletic. Not very well coached they run the same crossing pattern play all day.cmon guys I know it’s wing t, but so is San Dimas and they run better stuff.
Arroyo looked ok they are much better than the other MVL teams but definitely have a talent drop off. There were two QBs for what it’s worth. Camacho looks strong and accurate but will he be eligible? Another thing about the MVL is no buzz around certain player. Feels like the last couple seasons there were filled with big names and known commodities. Hopefully they develop over the course of the season but I only know Camacho.
From T. Peterson: El Rancho wasn’t at the Shootout.

Too many on here don’t understand how schools work. Every private school recruits kids and to some extent everyone understands. Every public school takes kids on permit. Some are athletes many are not. If you live in $&&/: school district (Pasadena) your options shouldn’t be 1.sentence your child to mediocrity or 2. pay $1.500 month tuition. Coaches don’t need to recruit. This 7-7 circuit CIF has authorized and social media tells students everything they need to know. I know nothing about Schurr, but if I lived close and my kid was a football player I would want them to play somewhere functional. If a school or program is a mess it isn’t the kids job to fix it. And the CV dad ain’t aware of the number of guys CV brings in. Of course to him they aren’t recruited. Everyone else is guilty of that, but my them, yeah ok buddy.

The whole SGV is lacking size at the skill position. Wasn’t not very impressed with the teams out there this year. Then again football is played with pads and lineman. So we shall see how the season goes for these teams.

Arcadia sold their Soul’s to The ————. The other Teams out there Yesterday were not very good. Arcadia will win until they put pads on. Divisions 7 on down are very bad. Arroyo, Montebello,Schurr, and The rest of the teams were small and did not have a lot of players. Los Altos had a lot of kids but were very small in size. Salesian is in trouble they are Horrible and will get killed in league. So. El monte is not very good. Crescenta Valley did not look and lacked size also.

Using MD is not a good example, they are a private school with no boundaries and hefty tuition. Not everyone is blessed enough to afford a private school tuition. Having the CIF enforce rules would be nice but thats not going to happen either. All schools have to deal with transfers that dont move into their city. Its a part of high school sports.

I watched the Arcadia vs Muir game. It was getting pretty intense both team have good Athletes that probably live in the same neighborhood. I want to give props to the Muir staff for keeping there cool throughout the game. Some of the Arcadia players showed that they do not know how to deal with success. One player scored on Muir threw the ball in the air threw his helmet in the air and took off his shirt and threw it in the air. A coached step in and the player told him you come out here and play. I guess that what to expect when you recuirt player. Muir lost but they won the Discipline part of the game.

I don’t understand the commenters here bashing kids or programs who get transfers or have kids on their team who weren’t literally born in the city. Every time I see someone from a team make those comments I personally know the school they represent does the same thing. Is there any competitive team that has only kids from a 10 square block radius? I don’t know of any. Mater Dei is the worst example but their kids come from 30 miles away and nobody cares. A Monrovia guy was on here bashing transfers and 2 days later they get a QB transfer. This isn’t high school football from 1985.

What I noticed is the disparity in head protection among players from different teams. I was not there but I hope that state of the art head protection becomes the primary focus for all of the teams in order to avoid future harm to the young players. Although I have told my grandsons to run cross country in the fall, football is the more popular sport and has attracted their participation.
