Aye aye captain! Meet the captain of no ship! Lol ok I’ll shut up just because you said so.
Arroyo puffs their chest out? Arroyo never acts classless. Jim’s teams are always great sportsmen. Is Arroyo not supposed to celebrate league titles? Why don’t you criticize those other teams for not elevating their games? Instead you cry like a baby “ Arroyo is too good nobody else can win” pansy!

One could argue that this staff would have success at Mt View this kids would start flowing there as well. They win, so that’s the historically good football program so the talent has always chosen Arroyo. Kinda surprising kids like a Steven Nava or Sal Tovar didn’t choose the knights over they’re respective programs. Today s parents more than ever are likely to follow successful programs because they don’t want their kids to ever have to deal with losing or adversity. The Arroyo separation gap will only get wider.

    @ Anonymous,

My point exactly. Arroyo puffs their chests out after beating teams they should have no business playing in league. Not to mention the recruiting pipeline they have in the pop warner league in El Monte and the rest of the emusd. That’s the reason why I suggesting change of leagues for them.

Friday Knight is either the Get Back Coach, Assistant to the Assistant, Chain Gang, or water boy. Everyone knows that! He gets mad when I say Jr because it’s true.

Alright the demographics of most MVL teams is the same, Arroyo gets the best of the best. That’s a given. They get kids that play football before high school with regularity. Although the staff is a great staff how long would they have lasted if they were at Mt View? Probably 5 years? Maybe.

One of the Arroyo transfers is a receiver from Cathedral high school. Should make a huge impact coming from D2 to the MVL. Camacho now has a number 1 target. They don’t get many transfers but the ones they do get pay off big time. He should be a better version of Yezdan Marquez a couple years ago which they got from South Hills High school.

Lmfao. Valid points, man knows his history. Can’t argue with facts. Cogburn and Aguirre were two of the best athletes ever at SEM and they were on the same team and barely beat Arroyo. Cogburn was zoned to go to Rosemead but everyone figured he’d follow his brothers footsteps to Arroyo but shocked everyone by donning the Eagle wings.

    To All You Knight Homers

Please don’t say that they are all basically the same kids. They are not. As well as league dominance. The transfers students from the other schools in the EMUHSD go to Arroyo. Please name any kid that transfers to Mountain View for football. River, lived across the street from Mountain View, and everyone knows he went to Arroyo. This is not sour grapes, its just facts. here is the last 10 years with Arroyo Football.
    2005, 2012, 2014, 3rd Place
    2007 (tied) 2008 2nd Place
    2004, 2006 (3-way tie), 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 MVL Champs.
Believe the numbers. 9 MVL Total Titles, 2 Second places, and 3-Third place finishes in 14 years. Maybe never out of the playoffs during this time. Is that dominant? Go back 3 decades, I am sure the numbers are similar. Since the beginning of the MVL, 47 or so years , please name when Arroyo was in last place or even did not make the playoffs. So, now El Monte has 4-6 transfers. Probably from the Norwalk area
and it will now take that type athlete to just compete with Arroyo for a league title. Hey SEM had them with Aguierre and Cogburn.

  17. July 21, 2018 - 6:05 pm | Permalink

    @mvl hoops
Agreed sir. Spot on. The kids are roughly the same kids throughout the league Arroyo might get more kids that are better but they’re relatively the same kid. The league could be better but it is ok. Anyone who attended the games against SEM the last two years the stadiums were packed and alive. Same vs Rosemead before that. But it does come down to coaches. Arroyos staff can compete with anyone. Coach Singiser Coach Mac Coach Chuck and now Coach Z are top notch. hate to beat a dead horse here but SEM let go of a great coach in Mike Mooney after leading his squad to to consecutive Semifinals and producing a back to back 2,000 yard rusher. Choices like that set your program back. Let’s consider Gallardo is a longtime assistant but a first time HC, so someone other than himself getting any credit might be a blow to his ego. I’m sure he’ll learn that lesson sooner than later. Rosemead didn’t help out Paramo with paying coaches he was begging for. So now he’s coaching Saturdays instead of at Rosemead and the panthers have suffered a bit. Had Rosemead given their head coach the resources he needed Rosemead would still be competing for titles. Has Marshall even named a HC? EM didn’t back Joel Sanchez look what happened? It’s time for programs to look themselves in the mirror.

Why would you want Arroyo in another league? Coming from a Del Rio League parent we don’t want La Serna out. Every team goes through a period of dominance. El Rancho dominated in the 80’s and early 90’s, Santa Fe ruled the late 90’s and early 2000’s but now our league has been dominated by La Serna. It’s up to the other schools to get stronger and derail the champ. And it can happen. Over the last 4 seasons in the Del Rio there have been 3 different league champs (El Rancho, La Serna, and Santa Fe). Good luck to the MVL and let’s see if anyone is ready to step up and dethrone the Knights.

First of all, to the guys that want Arroyo out of the MVL-where would you put them? For re-leagueing purposes, they are in the Foothill Area with such league as Pacific, Rio Hondo, Almont, Del Rio, Foothill, etc. They cannot be placed into a league in the Mt. Sac Area-such as the Valle Vista without having to go through the process of asking the CIF for placement in that area. The other-and probably more important-thing is that the EMUHSD wants all of their schools to stay in the same league. It certainly makes scheduling/transportation much easier.
Although Arroyo has been the dominant team in football the past few years, Rosemead, South El Monte and El Monte have each won MVL titles over the past 5-7 years. There is not as big of a difference between the schools as some would have you believe. The kids at Arroyo, El Monte and Rosemead are very similar. Mtn. View and South are a little different mostly due to a much lower number of students at their schools. The difference in football is the coaching. Arroyo has only had 2 head coaches since 1980. South started playing Varsity football in 1994, and they have had at least 4. El Monte and Rosemead have had at least 7 each since 1980. Having continuity and success is a huge deal at the MVL schools. Having a revolving door of coaches does not bode well for being successful. The talent at the MVL schools comes and goes-each school in the league has had their share of talent and good teams, but who has been the most consistent over the years-the school with the least turnover in coaches.
Also, the league is not just about football, there are other sports to consider as well. Arroyo does well in the other sports, but does not “dominate” the league. Mtn. View won the Boys basketball title, Gabrielino won the Girls basketball title. Rosemead won both Boys and Girls track, and South won the Softball title. Arroyo won the MVL in wrestling, boys and girls tennis, and baseball-along with football. Like I said earlier, the talent among the teams in the MVL is relatively close in all sports. It comes down to the coaching staffs at each school that ultimately determines success.
From T. Peterson: Well said coach. I get tired of seeing posts that Arroyo should be placed in another league. Thanks for breaking it down.

Arroyo to the Valle Vista? I’d be ok with it. But it’ll never happen. So you reward mediocrity by the other teams in league? Last year SEM had that game in hand and made two costly mistakes same the previous year. It’s not that great a gap as you might think. It’s just a mistake here and there that separates us from those other teams. So now the MVL gets a championship that means exactly what? Arroyo is the bar… other teams it’s time for to reach that bar. It’s embarrassing to hear that this league needs a bail out. Can’t beat us so kick us out. Typical millennial pansy attitude. Look four years ago Steven Nava of Rosemead led a great team to a league title then failed his senior year. Last two seasons Sal Tovar and his Eagles were close for two years but ran into possibly the best teams ever at Arroyo. This year El Monte gets the hype. Point is stop crying ball up get better stop firing Mike Mooney’s and hire Chuck L’s and Zoila’s and you too can enjoy success. Until them all you cry babies can go suck your pacifiers else where! This is FOOTBALL. Not tennis. Man up! Knights rule don’t @ me!

Captain, where would you move Arroyo?

  28. July 20, 2018 - 3:45 pm | Permalink

Let’s talk league play in my favorite league. The black and blue MVL.

Arroyo is in a league of its own here. Let’s be honest they get the best players and do the most with those players. SEM gave them all they could handle last year but several key components are gone from the swamp so that’s over. I’d be shocked if the knights surrendered more that 5 TDS in the entire league play. Undefeated in league and might go 10-0

El Monte- hype or real? Couple transfers are the talk in lion land but who are they? Is one player or two that good to turn around that fast? We’ll see for now I’m buying the hype I think they only lose to Arroyo. Close game vs Rosemead. 5-1 in league

Rosemead is young with several solid pieces that will emerge. Some pride will return to panther pit but a third a finish is in the cards. The year after they’ll contend for league.

Gabrielino will play hard and be in every game with the exception of Arroyo and EM. The other Eagles will be better this year.

SEM funny thing here is they’re good enough to finish second in league. But a new staff and a new offense coupled with a young skill guys you just never know. The Oline is strong so it should help speed the process.

Mountain View ditching the double wing and going modern. They’ll be growing pains but I think the Vikings will not be an easy W for anyone not named Arroyo or EM.

Marshall still not sure about the coaching position. If the school will not invest in football then they’ll be at the bottom every year. Ship out Marshall to the league With Rio Hondo prep and ship in a temple city or Alhambra

  29. July 20, 2018 - 3:17 pm | Permalink

Anonymous, you’re probably not gonna like this answer. But, I have a little insight on this… He’s still at Gabrielino because the kids love him. The parents love him and the powers that decide who stays and who goes love him. He’s one of the better guys out there in terms of character and integrity. That goes a long way with kids and parents and everything else. Rarely do you hear if ever kids from gab being arrested or smoking the happy leaf or worse. Gab has been down for a couple seasons but they’ll be back before you know it. Arroyo is really separating themselves but SEM just lost a great coach and also lost their work horse to graduation. El Monte seems to trending upwards but that remains to be seen also I’d like to add this is a backyard league these kids all know eachother the transfer thing may not fly in a league like this. Rosemead has been down and the rest are on even par. So if Gab can win 2 more games in league they’re in the hunt.

Arroyo has zero control of what the other schools do. You can’t fault the Knights for improving year after year maybe you should criticize the other schools for not trying to get better.
Coco said it right, a certain coach with a respectable track record and they let him go, those are the decisions you should criticize. Sure Arroyo gets better athletes but they also make better hires better choices better investments. Freshman football is a priority at AHS can’t say the same at the other schools it all adds up.

  41. July 19, 2018 - 5:47 pm | Permalink

Arroyo can’t control the teams in the MVL. If they’re weak how is that Arroyos problem? One of the best games of 2017 was South El Monte vs Arroyo. Game was back and fourth. Had it not been for two special teams turnovers by the Eagles they probably win. SEM had every opportunity to build on that success, then they fire one of the best coaches in the entire valley. What did Arroyo do? They brought in Dale Ziola one of the best coaches in that valley. Bottom line is you get what you put into your program. El Monte looks like this years best shot to dethrone the knights but it’s highly unlikely. I’ve changed my tune a bit, since Arroyo is by far and away better than its league they should schedule tougher teams to help prep them for playoffs. Arroyo will pitch 4 shut outs in league and win by 3 scores against the other two teams. But Arroyo shouldn’t be criticized for SEM, Rosemead Marshall Gabrielino Mountain View making bad choices over the years.
Change my pick Arroyo beats Schurr this year….AGAIN!

    @ Tim

Come-on Tim! We are talking about a 2 year regional bowl team. They are finally where they belong. They had chances to play Monrovia, Bonita has been on such a down trend it’s like Mad Magazine. Nogales really! Are they better then Covina? No they got removed from the Valley Vista. Who are they playing and beating? Schurr they have played and beat. It’s not a good schedule. It’s a weak schedule for a perennial playoff team. If they would have thrown in an OC team or two from their division, at least I would say they improved their schedule.
From T. Peterson: You know they make the schedules like two years in advance right? That being said Bonita has always been a solid program. The last two years were an aberration. I’ve seen them this summer on the passing circuit. They will be much improved under Bogan. So they beat Schurr once. They can’t play them again? It’s an evenly matched game. Yes they should beat Nogales and South Pas, but they are better than in years past.

Would’ve loved to see Jim stick with Covina those were some great games.

I don’t think the teams stepped up so much. Rosemead came to reality. Now they won’t be 0-4 in the preseason. 3-1 sounds about right. They’re a year away though.

SEM will finish 2-2 in preseason if they don’t it’ll be a long tumultuous season.

EM could’ve stepped up a bit more. Maybe a Montebello or a Schurr type team.

Yea, I can see Div 8 Arroyo upped their schedule… This year they play 2 Div 10 and 2 Div 12 teams in preseason. Wait, those teams are lower than they are by 2 and 4 Divisions. I know their league schedule has higher rated teams! MMMMmmm. Gabby Div 13-No, Rosemead Div 13- No, El Monte Div 13- No, Marshall Div 13- No, Mountain View Div 13- No! Oh that is the lowest division if you don’t know. Then its got to be South El Monte, Yea its got to be, right? No not SEM either, Div – 10. Maybe going 10-1 looks good on paper, another league title, and getting into DIV 8 PLAYOFF’s, I hope all goes well and they get another regional bowl bid.
From T. Peterson: Bonita and Schurr will both be good this year and South Pasadena is improved. Nogales is far from the pushover they used to be. The program is much better now. It’s not a bad non-league schedule.
