I can’t remember what year it was might of been 89 or 90 but the atmosphere that night was insane. Both teams were undefeated in league and it was probably the best PHS team in years. The Stangs would win a hard fought game and they met again in the CIF final with Muir winning again! I never thought I would never see both teams that good again! Now it’s just sad!
If all the Pasadena kids stayed home and went to Pasadena or Muir could you imagine how lit the Turkey Tussle would be?
BG is taking League
@TheDon, on point on Medrano being a very goo coach but calling a youth football group a cesspool has no need on this blog. From what I hear that youth group has been around a very long time and is pretty decent. Stick to HS topics and leave the little tiles alone.
You have the right perspective, N-A.
Garfield is #1, but it’s still the city section.
N-A, completely agree with you. For the most part, the schools with the less successful football teams are better academically (eg. Mark Keppel, Gabrielino) according to U.S News rankings.
His ego got the best of him he can say they resigned the truth is he has no communication. He was tired of not getting his back patted and credit going to the other guys, that’s why their not there.
I think most people who comment on this blog forgot that this is just high school football, 99% of these kids will never play college football, let this kids have fun, let the coaches coach, you guys should worry more about these players GPA’s and how they will make it in today’s world.
Almont looks wide open now. BG might have a slight edge.
@DOGS’s —-WTF? Top in the Eastern league maybe. maybe in the top 15 in City Section.
@anonymous I wouldn’t say Burns is great…He has the a lot of Int rolled over from last season into this season…#1 rule as a qb is take care of the ball.Someone in his camp needs to really make that a priority.
City lol cant compare with CIF div 1 SJB would kill the top div 1 city team. City is a joke
Who sounds stupid? For sure you didn’t go to MHS…It must be tough guys week on channel 5….
Enjoyed Anonomous post on ER football. As I sat with my young son among the well attended crowd on the ER side I noticed the well behaved student body and no profanity to be heard in the stands and the support that 95% of the fan base gave the team though it was getting worked over. No fire the coach or why is he playing that kid and not mine. Though disappointed ER fans seemed to be having a good time and the tacos at the snack bar were insane.
In a horrific case of quantity over quality, we’re at 84 comments, and there’s still gas in the tank. I’m doing my part to get this sucker into triple digits.
From T. Peterson: Problem is most of them get deleted. Especially the ones mentioning transfers or Schurr/Montebello.
Nobody is getting put in their place we are on the message boards with screen names. Put us all in a room and that will tell you who gets put in their place.
Garfield would be a div. 18 team in c I f. Congratulations on beating Montebello and schurr next week. They are both on the pop Warner level. Sad teams of the cif
Garfield has always been a top team in City section Div. 1 football. Do your research. We put in work!
@ Oiler Nation,
It’s great to see how someone still has a passion for the community and their HS. Keep doing your thing. Nobody can really have an accurate opinion unless they have been there and witnessed what’s going on. I also get a kick on how you put people in there places when needed. I hope your school starts to build and continues to produce a winning record… Don’t worry about the haters. They will always be lurking and will always have something negative to say… Keep bringing the posts…
@wow,
Being loyal is far more rewarding then winning football games. Being a front runner is about as low as you can go. I’m happy with my community and my HS. We compete every year. Also, a very high percentage of our athletes move on to higher education. That’s most rewarding…
Hitting it right on the head TheDon. Medrano is a good coach, very smart. El Rancho is lucky to have him. When has El Rancho had athletes? Lol… everyone is so infatuated with transfers. It’s so crazy. Shut up everybody about transfers already! Jeez
@oiler nation
40 years of mediocre football.
Never going to return huh…
Hopefully your world renowned predictions arent only useful for the Rio Hondo League…after all you are Gordon Gekko.
Okay now that we all dont have to worry about watching a Rio Hondo League team for the next 40 years of our lives, what other facts can you give us that will immensely improve our lives while…
No, I dont have an affiliation with those schools. I am just an American expressing an opinion about a particular league. I am not being disrespectful to a programs accompliments.
Yet, what’s the expiration date on celebrating things that happened a year ago, two years ago, 5 years ago, 20 years ago ? It’s great to look back on things (tradition for some). But, it’s all about how have things have progressed since those achievements were accomplished and the future. I don’t think I’m far off the mark with my opinions. I am simply stating that things have changed in the Rio Hondo League. It’s not as strong of a football league as it once was.

Good luck to the Rio Hondo. It’s going through rough times right now and it’s never going to return to it’s past luster.
That’s exactly how you build a program, by developing the lower levels and coming up with good game plans, there always comes a point where talent simply is too much to handle and wins out. I’m interested in hearing why you are so qualified to make such statements about Medrano, what have you done that makes you the expert, you’ve bashed him like crazy on this board. Have you ever commended him for getting the 1st playoff win in 15 years, do you think that was done with “recruited talent?” Do you think he led Bonita on a semi final run as a 29 year old with recruited talent? As far as your statement about not getting quality athletes, when has the ranch gotten quality athletes, we are getting the same type of kid we’ve always gotten just less of them. If Medrano could find a way to drain that Pico Rivera Dons cesspool then maybe he would get more of those athletes.
Grow up? You’re the one on here crying like a kid
I’ve got nothing to prove to you. You’re an imposter. I’ve been associated with this school for over 40 years now. It’s you who’s not an alumni… grow up
You are not a Oiler alum
@Oiler Nation
Stay loyal bro. It’s going to be a long season for your Oilers.
I was talking to you…
I really don’t care who’s got what. I’m an Alumni of MHS so that means I have loyalty to the school. If you decide to flip flop then it’s on you. You should be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Oilers are all the through not halfway.
@ Gordon
Geez you must be associated with Mater Dei or St John Bosco if you really think going to a state is something to be overlooked. Teams do not go every every few decades. There are 100’s of schools that have never been and around 99% of schools in the sgv.
@@oilernation
I see you write to yourself
@OilerNation
Pete is a good coach and guess what this year someone got a couple more guys that could play ball than his team and will probably take league again. It happens Downey, La Serna, Arroyo, Charter Oak don’t win league every year they lose on here and there. So go out there start another streak of winning and shut the hell up!
The Rio Hondo is warming up like a handgrenade. It’s about to explode into nonexistence. Here’s an observation for you the pool of players that used to participate in football is declining and in the very, very weak Rio Hondo it’s only going to get weaker. Plus, it’s just a boring product to watch. A state title or appearance is nice. Monrovia will never get to that stage again nor, SM. Monrovia talent and numbers have dwindled since Maddox resigned. Let’s look at QB. The last true leader/winning qb the Cats have had was Blake Heyworth. The rest were all wanna bed. The stockpile of quality lineman and skill players are also gone. Have you not observed that fact Observantcat? As for SM’s appearance in State (which is constantly discussed, whooopi), that was exciting for the mighty Titans. However, every school gets that one special class every few decades. The Titans had a qb who could throw, a few decent high school WRs and a much bigger than usual OL. Must say SM does have terrible looking uniforms. Is it a NASCAR look? Don’t worry Monrovia’s unis still look good. The bottomline is that all the pieces were there to make a run for SM. That’s great, good for them. Again, that success has not translated to sustainable dominance other than maaaaaybe the Rio. I restate my point the RHL is weak and boring for fans if you’re not a parent, relative or friend. What’s also weak is the nonleague schedule. Mtown did schedule mighty Burbank and Don Lugo (best players graduated in 2018). SM scheduled added PHS (football is dead there. Not the 90s over there either) and Northview (post Comstock era). My answer to your question is
the crystal ball says – it is CERTAIN that no team will win a CIF Tile from RHL, it’s only obvious.
From T. Peterson: I agree with some of your points. You missed it on Northview though. They’re good.
Medrano lives in Fantasy Land and thinks that developing the schools lower levels, hiring experienced coaches, and cute game plans will work.
Northview didn’t care about any of that. Athletes win games and Medrano is not getting quality athletes. He needs to take a page out of his baseball counterpart.
Nice try Gekko, Monrovia is far from done and the Rio Hondo league is just simply warming up for years to come. All leagues go through some kind of growing pains but none have really every bounced back like Monrovia and the Rio Hondo League. Monrovia has had dome God awful back to back seasons where guys like you thought they were done. But In the past 10 years Monrovia has had more 14 game seasons than any school you want to compare them to in the area and Monrovia and San Marino have been to the State games whereas what other league has had that representation in the SVG? This is only the beginning of the season and you seem to have your crystal ball all nice and shiny. Who do you predict to win a CIF Div. championship in this area?…… Im waiting.
WITH FOUR YOU GET EGG ROLL – Sun Tzu
The Rio Hondo League is terrible. One of the worst leagues in So Cal. Monrovia well never be what it was. San Marino is cute with a clever coach who has to handle SM parents. SM has the best staff in the league if that means anything and they must laugh at how bad their opposing coaches are. TC is done. The ’90s are long gone and early 2000s are bye, bye. Gotta love the Ram enthusiasm. South Pas HS will never be football program. The principal doesn’t care. It’s a school where rich liberals hang and water pool is the sport, maybe track. If you have a son don’t drink the water in SP. Hey, Ed Smith back! La Canada, the new Blair. Spartan Football is on life support at best. 0-10 can be achieved again. Blair RIP. The Rio is weak and will only get worse as time passes. It’s already boring to watch. Plus, it’s tiring to hear parents from this league complain about recruiting. Every school in the Rio has recruited kids from other cities to their program. Calpreps runs a good line on each team from the Rio.
I find die hard, crazy football fans very entertaining. It is hilarious to read their comments and opinions. Delusional football fans need to know – EVERY BATTLE IS WON, BEFORE IT’S EVEN FOUGHT – Sun Tzu

Anon, I’m right here hater! Never to far away my brother. D13??? Bahhhhhahh yea right.
ER was simply no match for that speed, I said it when this match was scheduled, not a good week 0 contest, losing Comstock was going to be easy when returning 16 starters including multiple D-1 guys. No need to schedule a contest like this just because the coaches are buddies…. kinda shocking Marcel had his entire starting team in until the last defensive drive of the game. ER running game is decent, they need to convert on red zone chances, 2 of those chances were not converted. The scary part is all those stud skills for Northview are underclassmen, ER can’t even land 5 Pico Dons per season anymore how can we compete with teams like NV…
Well yea they played a JV squad.
Where is Friday Knights. Very quiet in El Monte right now. It just shows us Arroyo should be in D13.
Cheating Works. Look at USC. Cheat On.
@Sparta fan,
You were at full strength last night. All those transfers that you’re banking on are done. Look in the mirror and come to grips. Cheating doesn’t work. We will see when you match up. You guys got blown out and your still flapping your gums. Time will tell ….
So! I fight the fight. If you don’t like it then don’t read it as well. These guys come on here and talk crap all day. Not acceptable to me…
Speak your mind friend. I enjoy hearing your thoughts on everything oiler nation. don’t let these trolls on the hill silence you.
You dont know what your talking about. Wait till we are at full strength and play you guys. DONE
The more you go at it the more pathetic you make us sound.
