Lions Victorious In MVL Opener

Booth…Davon Booth

By Rich Whittington

El Monte’s Davon Booth Is Too Much for Rosemead: 52-14

(Rosemead) The El Monte Lions over ran, over powered, and blatantly outscored the host Rosemead Panthers Friday evening, posting a 52-14 victory at Rod Marinelli Stadium.

Rosemead opened the scoring with a 5-yard TD run by Senior Fullback Edgar Portillo at the 6:18 mark of the first quarter. The Panthers added another touchdown run, when QB Ivan Ostry scored on a 64 yard sprint with 4:33 remaining in the opening period. This would prove to be the extent of the scoring for the Rosemead Panthers.

El Monte’s “Double-Wing” Offense proved to be too much for Rosemead, as the Lions ran it to near perfection. Junior Running Back Davon Booth, the Lion’s “Weapon of Choice” for the evening, had a hand, or foot, in all of El Monte’s scoring. Booth ran for six touchdowns, scoring on runs of 1, 24, 44, 58, 60, and 72 yards. In addition, Booth was on the receiving end of a 45 yard TD pass from QB Joseph Herrera. If that weren’t enough, Booth converted five 2-Point PAT attempts. Davon finished the evening with 369 yards from scrimmage…324 rushing and 45 receiving.

Next week finds both of these teams with a bye. Rosemead’s next game is 9/28, when the Panthers will travel to Arroyo to battle the Knights. On that same evening, the Lions will host the Mountain View Vikings. Kickoff time for both games is 7:00 p.m.

No more Sumlers or Fregoso damn even Sahagun… are all gone. Maybe they could be like the Raiders and bring Koffler back and see what happens.

I think they got Davon mixed up with someone else. It’s his first year in the MVL and first in Ca in 2 years.

It’s been a long time since Rosemead had it put on them like this. I’m impressed. Even though Rosemead has been down a bit they still haven’t got a beat down like this from a MVL team in years. It’s Gotta be said the Rosemead QB got hurt before halftime and it was all down hill from there. Taking nothing away from EM the Oline is perhaps the biggest I’ve ever seen from an MVL team, EVER! I still think it comes down to defense with the lions though Arroyo is gonna put points up that’s a given. Even SEM if we can get our act together offensively we can win this league. Hopefully with two weeks to prepare we come out and smack Mountain View the beat Gabrielino and with another bye week prepare and beat the Knights. EM always finds away to lose against us at least that’s what I’m banking on. Good job Lions “we’ll see you soon”
