High School Games Postponed due to Weather

By Tim Peterson

Several games across the Southland were either postponed or canceled Friday night due to weather conditions  – namely lightning strikes that were considered too dangerous for players, coaches and fans alike.

Some of the games were ruled as finals even though the all four quarters weren’t completed if both coaches agreed.

Here are the games to be resumed Saturday as well as the current status.

Gabrielino at Rosemead – 10:30 a.m. – 7-0 Rosemead 2nd Qtr

Montebello at Schurr – 1:00 p.m. – 9-6 Schurr at Halftime

Arroyo vs El Monte at Baldwin Park – 3:00 p.m. – 8-0 El Monte 2nd Qtr

Bonita vs. Ayala at Don Lugo – 7:00 p.m. – 14-3 Ayala at Halftime

Burbank at Muir – 8:00 a.m. – 14-9 Muir at Halftime

California at El Rancho – 1:00p.m. – 28-14 El Rancho at Halftime

San Gabriel at Alhambra at Moor Field  – Time TBD – No Score 1st Qtr

FINALS

Arcadia 38 Pasadena 14

Monrovia 42 La Canada 0

Northview 33 Covina 12

    Alhambra 48, San Gabriel 0.
This game was finished as a “Monday Night Special” after play was suspended on Friday evening due to hazardous weather conditions.
AHS is now in a four-way tie for first place in the Almont League at 2-1, and the Moors are 7-1 overall. Alhambra’s biggest game of the season will be on Friday night at Bell Gardens.

Does Bonita get in D10 playoffs if they finish 2-3 in 5th place in the Palomares? In order to make it in CIF would likely have to push a 2nd or a good 3rd place team out?

I’m a Schurr graduate class of 88 I went to the game on Saturday and it was a great game played with a lot of pride from both sides. I thought it was great until things weren’t going Schurrs way man I left shaking my head and not proud of being an alumni. That coach from Schurr should be fired that situation could have got very ugly in a second. Let the kids play and at the end of the day it was a great game. Coaches should not ruin it.

Well the Don’s eked out another one. Cal was not very good this year so this win does not count for much. At least that is what the critics will say. It was a good win. The offensive line keeps blowing holes for our multiple backs especially in the 4th quarter. This version of El Rancho seems to get stronger in the 4th, the opposite of last year. A win next week against Santa Fe will assure a playoff spot. Go Don’s.

Calm it down a bit. CO is NOT the team it was last year! There was no reason LA shouldn’t have won. Everyone is beating CO this season. This week LA will get their a** handed to them. NO WAY LA BEATS SH. LA has 1 more win for them it will be against WC. I guarantee LA will not be chanting in their bus this week. On another note someone needs to step up and manage LA players, there is never a valid reason to be chanting F CO its ridiculous.

Los Altos should be very proud of beating a horrid “1 win” CO team that had a 3rd string QB, and their best lineman out with a broken leg. So proud that they marched out to the CO logo at center field and celebrated their huge accomplishment. Hilarious

Congrats to Montebello. Montebello executed 3rd and long 3 times. MHS did very well. They got the most 1st downs. Schurr offense is good and special teams. Defensively they are clueless…. Defense wins champions

Not sure how carefully you threaded by saying these comments. Some truth to it yes. But when you characterize players and position based on race, that’s a very dicey road your walking on. You’ll probably piss a grip of bloggers off from that spill. Remember it’s 2018, gotta watch what you say. This was like if kanye commented about high school football…. just certain things you shouldn’t say.

One thing I noticed watching so many games on Saturday and I tread carefully here, the Hispanic footballer is a perfect fit for the proto type aggressive high school player. Culturally they are macho,no fear types often raised that way by their fathers, brothers, uncles etc. Schools like Northview, Amat,South Hills, La Serna and up and comers El Rancho, Bell Gardens and El Monte are loaded with latino surnamed players. A cursory check reveals that top schools even with a smaller latino student population still have a ton of lunch pail latino players. The men that work in the trenches. The Big Ugly’s. the Hogs, the Animales, what ever nickname suits you. Those guys are like the transmission of a car. No trans no go. I see it at Bell Gardens, La Serna, Northview. South Hills, without those guys the wide outs, QB’s and runners are zip. All that said I see the SGV quickly catching up to the OC because the typical OC mom is more fearful of PC info than the Latino old man. If schools like El Rancho and Bell Gardens can keep the proto type latino football player to stay and play at home then I predict a very bright future. The one caveat is that the school must invest in quality coaching and equipment and the latino community needs to get more fired up in supporting these boys efforts. Every one knows about the tall well coached white QB’s and the blazing fast black skill position athletes but as I said the good teams all need a powerful Transmission to climb uphill. So if you have a kid that’s has been devouring your mexican home cooking for 12 years, 1st make sure he works hard in the classroom, 2nd goes to church and 3rd goes out for football. He is worth his weight in gold.

I went to see Schurr and Montebello great game. Schurr has #13 great athlete. Montebello had #22 offense #16 defense great athletes too. I sat on Schurr side and I was shocked when they started to chant snitcers to Montebello. Yes I know what happened everybody knows what happened. Bottom line who cares who snitched ? Even if Montebello did Schurr was found wrong for what the did. I don’t care what city your from or what football team your from wrong is wrong. Second of all I was leaving the teams were shaking hands when a Schurr coach flung his arm at a coach from Montebello. Man how terrible can your staff be from Schurr? As an ex coach for years I would have been mortified. Good job Montebello today clearly the best team won.

The game between Alhambra and San Gabriel was restarted twice following delays, but the weather continued to worsen. The officials wisely suspended play after lightning flashes began to occur in the general vicinity of Moor Field.
