Glendora Still Unbeaten

By George Hernandez

(Glendora) – Braydon Brus only played the first half and had five carries but that was all Glendora needed from him in the Tartans 28-7 victory over Colony Friday night at Citrus college.

Glendora’s second play from scrimmage was a handoff to Brus who took it 63-yards and the next play he finished it off with a two yard burst to the end zone.

Colony’s first drive resulted in a punt but the Titans got the ball right back on a Tartans fumble but couldn’t do much and punted it back to Glendora.

Glendora exchanged punts, but on Colony’s next drive a Will Yates pass was intercepted by Christian Sampson who took it 63-yards to paydirt to make it 14-0 Tartans.

Colony’s offense again couldn’t get more then one first down before punting.

The Tartans next drive was set up by a 33-yard run for Brus which would be his last play of the game, Zachary Ford took it the next 14-yards to the end zone making it 21-0 before the half.

Glendora and Colony exchanged punts again to start off the second half.

Roen Spain blocked a Titans second punt of the half which set up a 17-yard pass from Jake Denerson to his favorite target big tight end Reggie Johnson which put the Tartans up 28-0 late in the third quarter.

Colony quarterback Will Yates got knocked out the game at the start of the fourth quarter which drought in AJ Jones at quarterback.

Jones would score on a 31-yard run on the Titans last drive.

Yates before exiting the game was 2 of 12 for 17-yards and a interception. Bryce Strong and Jamari Johnson combined for 112-yards rushing.

Brus finished with five carries for 100-yards and a score. Ford had 42-yards on the ground and a score.

Denerson went 9 of 14 for 97-yards and touchdown through the air. Johnson had five catches for 71-yards a touchdown.

Glendora (8-0) will look to stay perfect when they travel to Los Osos next week while Colony looks to get healthy against South Hills.

It’s Brian Zavala. Rides coattails, then when given a shot he always blows it. Might be a good assistant, maybe not even that either. He’s definitely not a good HC. Rumor is Colony will be parting ways after the season.

When Yates was still in the game I heard someone yell “he could throw the ball” after two or three straight runs. Yea he sure could, over throw and under throw WR cause he sure couldn’t hit’um. As for D1 guys on the roster #6 and #55 look like dudes. Don’t let the size of other dudes fool you.

Heard Colony was loaded with athletes. Saw a video from some media outlet the other day. D1 kids over there. Who is the coach now? Colony used to be a premier team. I don’t get it. What happened?

Boy that Colony team (1-8) sure went down the tubes fast. That coach over there, his name sounds familiar.
