(Covina)- On a weird weather day where rain and lighting scattered inconsistently throughout the night, this game was just as unpredictable.<\/p>\n

Monrovia is now 2-2 after using a solid ground game, good special teams play, and sheer determination to overcome an early first quarter deficit and deny South Hills its second win of the season, 28-25, Thursday night at Covina District Field.<\/p>\n

The Wildcats were down 17-7 after Levi Osborn picked off a Nick Bueno pass and quarterback Vincent Hernandez connected with Cody Dean on a 45-yard fade pass that converted the turnover into a touchdown for the Huskies on the ensuing play with 2:15 left in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Monrovia responded with two second quarter rushing touchdowns and it was 21-17 when Derrick Johnson\u2019s bulldozing 1 yard run was signaled good by the referees.<\/p>\n

\u201cWere trying to progress and get better every week in that aspect,\u201d said M-Town coach Ryan Maddox. \u201c We got a young offensive line, but they\u2019re the ones that open up the holes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bueno finished with roughly 200 total yards and two touchdowns. Bueno scored on a 10-yard cut back run early in the second and then hooked up with wide out Jay Henderson on a perfect 15-yard slant rout to storm back to a 28-17 lead.<\/p>\n

South Hills running back Jamel Hart ran well, but the Huskies were forced to pass late in the game. Hart rushed for 157 yards off 25 carries and a score.<\/p>\n

Hernandez led a late fourth quarter drive capped off by a 22-yard bubble screen pass for a touchdown to Jordan Gutierrez, which brought SH within a field goal kick of tying the game after the deuce was added. It was 28-25 with 4:21 remaining in the game.<\/p>\n

But the Huskies defense could not stop a fourth and inches quarterback sneak by George Frazier from the Wildcats 29 with 2:02 remaining. Monrovia HC Ryan Maddox used two timeouts to set up the crucial play and moved the thicker Frazier to quarterback to get the push. Michael Harris then added another run and the clock ran out on the Huskies.<\/p>\n
