You know when the season started I thought El Monte\u2019s match with Chino was a cupcake. The Cowboys were 0-10 last year…Right now they are 4-0 and averaging 40-points a game… Mmm… At least its at Lions Stadium.<\/p>\n

West Covina needs to watchout against Rowland…The Raiders offense isn\u2019t so forgiving…<\/p>\n

Since \u201cWhat If\u2019s\u201d are popping up on the comment board… Mt. View last beat Arroyo in 1981… Ronald Reagan was in his FIRST term… Pagers were slowly becoming popular with doctors and criminals…No one had ever heard of a cell phone, South El Monte High School, or compact discs…and if you happened to see a lap top it was a TV tray…<\/p>\n

That\u2019s how long its been…<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been reminded as dirt is being shoveled onto the Rosemead season that San Gabriel scored three touchdowns on defense last week and the Panthers shouldn\u2019t be written off… Too much talent in Eddie Solario, Matt Eddy, and Dominic Salas.<\/p>\n

Plus they have a pretty good running back.<\/p>\n

Schurr\u2019s Chris Chiaromonte, after a slow start against Cantwell, is really starting to heat up at wide receiver for Aaron Cantu and the Spartans.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think former USC wide receiver and soon to be ex-Carolina Panther Dwayne Jarrett is going to make it in for the show tonight…<\/p>\n

Whittier Christian quarterback Stephen Anderson is having great pitch and catch success with receiver Cameron Stanley. At running back Grant Escobar has done well and before that it was Joel Rhone. The defense is lights out…and even Rudy Robles is getting looks in the jumbo set. So who is being overlooked?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTyler Appleford, my right guard,\u201d says Anderson. \u201cHe’s just been a beast out there and linemen never get mentioned, but he and the rest of my line are the reason we are doing anything offensively.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great way to start league play. The team is definitely excited,\u201d said Mayfair quarterback Evan Hunko about the Monsoons victory over Norwalk in the Suburban League opener. \u201cBoth Norwalk and La Mirada beat us last year ending an eight year undefeated league winning streak. Me and my classmates (2011 Class) are determined to leave Mayfair having started a new undefeated streak.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayfair started the season 0-3 but have now won in successive weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a four year player, I have been down that 0-3 road before while facing tough Pac 5 opponents in non league play. I understand the thinking behind the schedule but it is still a challenge to keep some of the players that haven\u2019t experienced that in the past motivated. After Friday\u2019s win, I think everyone on the team now sees the payoff. With three of our dominant players, Dominique Small, Theo Chambers, and Filo Fonati on the sidelines with injuries, we asked a lot of guys to step up and they were able to answer the call.\u201d<\/p>\n

Any fear of a let down?<\/p>\n

\u201cWe face Cerritos this week. Despite them having only won one game in the last two years and one game this year, we are not taking them lightly. I know what 0-3 feels like so I have to figure a team that went 1-19 the last two years has to have a ton of motivation to show up every Friday night and continue to compete. We cannot overlook that. We have to stay focused and take it one game at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n
