But that&#8217;s exactly what happened\u00a0in a 40-29 Lancers\u00a0loss to the Matadores in Suburban League play.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Norwalk\u00a0used some of those yards to jump out to a 17-0 lead\u00a0on La Mirada \u00a0with just over five minutes left in the second\u00a0quarter. But La Mirada\u00a0scored 27 consecutive points\u00a0in the second and third quarters to grab a ten point lead and never looked back.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The same thing happened last year,&#8221; said La Mirada Coach\u00a0Mike\u00a0Moschetti. &#8220;We were down 27-6 at one point and came back to win.\u00a0We played about as bad as we could play on offense early in the first half. But we just kept playing one play at a time and we were able to come back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A 65 yard\u00a0run by Billy Moore in the first quarter\u00a0and three yard run\u00a0by Moore set up by a 55 yard jaunt by Elijhaa Penny in the second\u00a0propelled Norwalk to the 17 point advantage.<\/p>\n<p>But La Mirada pieced together a\u00a074 yard drive late in the second to cut the lead to 17-6.\u00a0It appeared that the half would end that way\u00a0when La Mirada came up with a huge play just before the break.\u00a0Shane Blood hit Anthony Diaz on a corner route for\u00a0a 54 yard touchdown pass with four seconds left in the quarter.\u00a0Instead of 17-6, it&#8217;s 17-13 and it&#8217;s a new ball game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That was a huge play by Diaz,&#8221; Moschetti said. &#8220;It got us going.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a momentum changer, no doubt.\u00a0What are you going to do?&#8221; said Ceniceros.<\/p>\n<p>Then La Mirada hit\u00a0Norwalk with two more big plays in the second qaurter.\u00a0After Norwalk was stopped and\u00a0forced to punt, Reuben Poncedeleon fielded the boot and navigated\u00a0his way 63 yards for a score to put the Mats on top.<\/p>\n<p>On the next La Mirada possession, lightning struck again.\u00a0on the first play from scrimmage, Max Gama found a hole at the line,\u00a0broke\u00a0into the secondary and went 76 yards for a touchdown.\u00a0Just like that it was\u00a027-17 La Mirada.<\/p>\n<p>Norwalk battled back\u00a0but could never regain the lead. Andre Thompson scored on touchdown runs of 25 and 35 yards in the fourth quarter. But for every Norwalk jab there was a counter punch by La Mirada.<\/p>\n<p>Aaryn Bouzos caught a 23 yard strike from Blood and after a failed Norwalk onside kick attempt,\u00a0Gama got loose again for\u00a0a 45 yard score to\u00a0ice it with 1:34 left.<\/p>\n<p>For Norwalk,\u00a0Penny had 21 carries for 174 yards, Moore 20 for 124 and\u00a0two touchdowns while\u00a0Thompson\u00a0rushed for\u00a0117 yards on 11 carries.<\/p>\n<p>Blood was 12 for 19 for 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns with\u00a0Diaz catching five for 108 yards and a score.<\/p>\n<p>With the victory and only a date with Bellflower left, La Mirada clinched the Suburban League crown with a 5-0 record. The Matadores are 6-3 overall.\u00a0Norwalk is 3-2 and 5-4.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sure thats&#8217;s nice\u00a0to win the\u00a0Suburban\u00a0League but we&#8217;re just taking it one play at\u00a0 time, one game at time.
