(San Gabriel) – Keppel kept its Almont title pursuit in the crosshairs as they closed out round one of league by easily dismantling neighborhood and cross-freeway rival San Gabriel, 63-19 Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Aztecs forced 27 turnovers (10 in the first quarter) and served a paralyzing dose of twin brothers Justin and Jordan Young over the first three stanzas upon SG. They combined for 39 of the team\u2019s 53 points \u2013 nearly tripling the entire Matador offense (15) \u2013 to help put this one well into deep freeze. Justin, the postman, had the more impressive stat line with 19 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a whopping 8 steals, one of which he took for a breakaway pick and slam late in the second.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Jordan, the shooter, had a point more (20) and added another 6 boards, 3 dishes, and 2 thefts. Ashlee Wong capped the leader board with a trifecta of threes, of which the Aztecs shot 6 for 7 in the second half. San Gabriel was led across all categories by Eric Alvarez, who had 10 of the team\u2019s 19 points, with 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.<\/p>\n
The Matadors took advantage of a rare slow start by Keppel and led 5-4 shortly into period one after an Alvarez deuce and Brandon Tran trey.<\/p>\n
