Senior Juilan Jarrard pitched into the sixth inning to get the victory <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

(Temple City) \u2013 If the first inning of the first game is any indication of the way the season is going to go for Temple City, it could be a big year. The Rams scored six runs on five hits in the first and cruised to a 6-1 win over Sierra Vista Friday in the season opener. It\u00a0also marked the opening game of the Arcadia Elks Tournament.<\/p>\n

Julian Jarrard did the rest on the mound starting and going five and one third innings before being relieved by Corey Copping who finished up.<\/p>\n

Jarrard struck out five, walked three and allowed three hits and a run. He retired the side in order in the first and third innings. He faced only three batters as well in the fifth when Jonah Jarrard, Juilan\u2019s brother, gunned down a runner at second base.<\/p>\n

\u201cJulian is our number one pitcher. He looked good today. I really like this team. We have a really deep pitching staff,\u201d said Temple City Coach Barry Bacon.<\/p>\n

Kyle Starling led off the first inning and got things started for the Rams when he drew a walk and stole second. Troy Brocato then beat out a bunt single as Starling took third. Copping then picked both of them up with a ringing double to center.<\/p>\n

After the Jarrard brothers both singled, Calvin Copping doubled and Cameron Legrand reached on an error, Temple City had a six pack on the board. Legrand is starting at third base for TC as a freshman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Rams don\u2019t have a lot of bangers but they plan on scoring runs a different way.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to be bunting a lot, running a lot and getting base hits. We\u2019re going to playing small ball this year,\u201d Bacon said.<\/p>\n

Sierra Vista was shut down nearly the entire game but did manage to push across a run in the third on a walk and a double.<\/p>\n

Jarrard (Jonah) kept the Dons from running by throwing out four potential base stealers from behind the plate.<\/p>\n

\u201cJonah did a great job. We knew he could do that even last year but we had a three year senior starter at catcher,\u201d Bacon said. \u201cWe were able to save his legs for a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Temple City will be competing in the Elks Tournament all week before playing in the Montebello Tourney.<\/p>\n
