Brooke Clementson is one to watch in years to come. <\/p><\/div>\n

Congratulations to Crescenta Valley and Glendora on winning its perspective tournaments in the area.<\/p>\n

Want to see some good softball, the Charter Oak Classic and Arroyo Tournament should provide some fun during the week. Good area schools will be in both.<\/p>\n

Sometimes It\u2019s Better to Be Lucky<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Glendora won the San Dimas Classic on Saturday 8-3 over Northview.<\/p>\n

But if not for a two-run flurry with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Thursday evening against La Canada the Tartans would\u2019ve played for fifth place.<\/p>\n

The usual sure handed Spartan defense made to key mistakes to lose 3-2. La Canada did bounce back to beat Los Altos 5-0 for the fifth spot.<\/p>\n

Young Guns<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

One thing noticed in the San Dimas Classic, the freshman pitchers that stepped up for their ball clubs.<\/p>\n

Ana Mejia (Northview) is now 4-1 with 1.40 ERA. Mejia helped lead the Vikings to the championship game against Glendora.<\/p>\n

Anissa Sanchez (Bonita) has been a work horse for the Bearcats early going 6-2 with a 2.10 ERA.<\/p>\n

A definite one to watch will be Brooke Clementson (Charter Oak) who started in place of Cassie Andrews. Clementson held the Bearcats in check for eight innings enroute to her first win.<\/p>\n

Going Yard?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In tournaments like San Dimas and Duarte no fences are available to measure home runs. So depending on if one plays at a location with high grass in the outfield (San Dimas) or low grass (Duarte) a homer is no guarantee.<\/p>\n

Exhibit A: Dekota Monarrez hit a ball that would\u2019ve gone out of most National Parks on Wednesday against La Canada. Probable being that San Dimas\u2019s grass slows the ball down to allow outfielders to get the ball. Monarrez\u2019s case Kayla McCue caught up to the ball and threw a strike to Anna Edwards who relayed it to Catherine Horner at the plate to get Monarrez at home.<\/p>\n

Exhibit B: Any ball hit at Duarte\u2019s North Field. Plain and simple if the ball doesn\u2019t jump off the bat, it will off the ground if it finds a hole. Not taking anything away from Hannah Cookson\u2019s two-homer performance in the final for Crescenta Valley but it is easier to pad stats at Duarte.<\/p>\n

Demi Nguyen looks to help South El Monte.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Before the year is up South El Monte will be in the playoff hunt. However, a tough start to the season has the Eagles 0-4.<\/p>\n

Next up for South El Monte is the Charter Oak tournament.<\/p>\n
