{"id":15621,"date":"2011-03-20T09:10:25","date_gmt":"2011-03-20T16:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=15621"},"modified":"2011-03-20T09:11:04","modified_gmt":"2011-03-20T16:11:04","slug":"wolfpack-battles-back-against-oilers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=15621","title":{"rendered":"Wolfpack battles back against Oilers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(South El Monte) \u2013 Sometimes the best defense is a good offense.\u00a0 This was the case Saturday afternoon as the Claremont Wolfpack accumulated 24 hits in a 13-8 victory over the Montebello Oilers in the championship game of the Arroyo tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The Oilers managed 16 hits on three different pitchers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Claremont started the game with great enthusiasm.\u00a0 After Conley Jones hit a single to left field, Kiana Moreno hit a double and brought in Jones in for the score.\u00a0 Becky Ireland would then add an RBI of her own, hitting a single to right field and bringing in Moreno. \u00a0Oilers pitcher Evelyn Hernandez stopped the momentum there, catching a line drive from Faith Song and throwing it to first for a double play. The next batter grounded out.<\/p>\n<p>The Oilers responded in its own half of the inning, with the bases loaded and only one out, Oiler\u2019s Jacqueline Lopez was hit by a Carissa Bender pitch, which brought Briana Alvarez in to cut the deficit.<\/p>\n<p>Montebello did its damage in the second inning.<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa Soneff scored for the Oilers on a sacrifice fly.<\/p>\n<p>Struggling with control, Bender walked two straight batters.\u00a0 A passed ball brought in Andrea Rocha. The Wolfpack brought in its second pitcher of the game with Song.<\/p>\n<p>With two outs April Marquez became the third Montebello runner to score after a throwing error by the catcher.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth inning proved to be the deciding factor of the game.<\/p>\n<p>Song hit a double to start off the inning, which would start up a flurry of hits.\u00a0 The Wolfpack scored seven runs on ten hits.<\/p>\n<p>Passed balls hurt Claremont in the fourth.\u00a0 Marquez scored off the second passed ball, and it set up a two run score after a Hernandez single.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Jordan Navarro came in to pitch. She would finish out the game for the \u2018Pack.<\/p>\n<p>In the sixth, Song, who had only recorded one hit at the time, connected on Hernandez\u2019s pitch; sending the ball to left field for a double and bringing in Moreno and Ireland in for the score.
