{"id":15744,"date":"2011-04-01T08:27:28","date_gmt":"2011-04-01T15:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=15744"},"modified":"2014-04-01T05:58:38","modified_gmt":"2014-04-01T12:58:38","slug":"fanview-lite-april-1-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=15744","title":{"rendered":"Fanview Lite: April 1, 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3566\" style=\"width: 158px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Joe-Torosian.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3566\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3566 \" title=\"Joe Torosian\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Joe-Torosian-247x300.jpg\" width=\"148\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3566\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Torosian<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Good Morning!<\/p>\n<p>The standard battle at quarterback is usually one versus another\u2026seldom is it a three-way fight, but with the transferring in of southpaw Cale Jasper from Arkansas its what the battle under center at San Gabriel has become.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The 6-3 210-pound Jasper, a senior-to-be, owns the combined strengths of last season\u2019s starters Andy Guerrero and Erik Alvarez; Guerrero\u2019s mobility and Alvarez\u2019s passing from the pocket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love his skills,\u201d says SG HC Jude Oliva. \u201cI won\u2019t promise anything, every position has got to be earned, but he is impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Part of that \u201cimpressive\u201d package is Jasper\u2019s arm strength. While nothing has been officially measured \u201cThe Suave One\u201d, assistant coach Matt Lopez, says he\u2019s never seen a high school quarterback so effortlessly flick the ball 50-yards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe kid doesn\u2019t have a wind up or have to take a step, he tosses the ball like you or I would toss keys across the table,\u201d said Lopez. \u201cHe has a good technique, good footwork, it\u2019s going to be interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jasper moved to California three months ago with his father, a regional rep for Tyson Chicken, after leading an undermanned Blytheville High School squad to a 4-6 record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were a playoff team in 2009 but there was some trouble and a lot of kids transferred out,\u201d says Oliva. \u201cI\u2019ve seen the tape he really was a one man show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Jasper, confident with teammates, answers most of his questions \u201cYes Sir and No Sir\u201d he does convey his joy at being in a new situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, I think I could make the kid the Up-Back on punt and he would be happy,\u201d said Oliva. \u201cI\u2019m not going to, but that\u2019s how happy he is for the change of scenery. His dad said it and I can see football is fun for him again.
