He walked one and allowed just three hits. He struck out the side in the third and the seventh innings and fanned two in the second.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis velocity was still there and he still had some left in the tank,\u201d said Temple City Coach Barry Bacon. \u201cHe\u2019s been our best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Copping had to be at the top of his game to best La Canada\u2019s Brendon Shoemake. Shoemake nearly matched Copping pitch for pitch though five innings. He threw five scoreless frames before the Rams broke through for three in the sixth. Shoemake struck out six, walked three and hit a batter. He also gave up six hits but three of those came in Temple City\u2019s three run sixth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShoemake is that good. We haven\u2019t played since last Wednesday and then having to come out and face him? That\u2019s tough,\u201d Bacon said.<\/p>\n<p>In the decisive sixth, Copping walked and Jo Jo Torres ran for him and stole second. With one out, Jonah Jarrard doubled him home. Benji Sanderson then doubled home Jarrard and Alec Vigil\u2019s base hit plated Sanderson.<\/p>\n<p>Three runs was more than enough for Copping who then blew down the final three batters.<\/p>\n<p>The Rams had a golden opportunity in the fourth when Julian Jarrard reached second after an error and a walk. But Jarrard was thrown out at the plate attempting to score on a single to right by Vigil.<\/p>\n<p>Shoemake reached third for the Spartans in the fourth and Mitch Russell beat out an infield hit and moved to third on a sacrifice and a ground ball in the fifth, but both times the runners were left stranded.<\/p>\n<p>La Canada dropped to 0-5 in league and 6-8 overall with the defeat but four of its losses have been by one run, including two in league.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re the best 0-5 team I\u2019ve ever seen.
