We’ve seen what quarterback Jake Martinez can do (impressive in the SGV Shootout) and Coach Joe Scherf has plenty of other offensive weapons as well. RB Desmond Reed (no relation) and receiver James Figueroa can make things happen and Luis Nunez can get the tough yards inside.

Defensively Azusa has plenty of returning talent including Eric Perez and Jonathan Chavez. Right now the Aztecs are king until somebody knocks them off.

Is that somebody La Puente? Coach Brandon Roher likes what he sees in returning QB Ivan Vasquez. Bryan Landeros and Joey Centeno will be important factors on offense as well. The Warriors have a good one in tight end Bryan Barrazza.

Roher almost went to Glendora as HC in the off season but is glad he is back and ready to lead the LP to bigger and better things.

Gladstone quarterback Kevin Amezquita has had a great camp for the Gladiators. Amezquita has shown ability on the field but Coach Albert Sanchez is also happy with the leadership that he has displayed with teammates. Aaron Sanchez will be the feature back when Amezquita isn’t throwing it around.

On defense senior Jerry Gutierrez anchors the D-line. Gutierrez will go both ways lining up on the offensive line as well. Key game for the Warriors is November 4 at Azusa.

Sierra Vista has Giovanni Rivera and a new coach in Don LeGro. Not sure if the Dons have enough to contend on the Montview. They are however coming off a year in which they went 7-3.

Scott Morrison enters his second year at Workman expecting bigger and better things. The Lobos still have some work to do if they are going to play beyond week ten.

Ganesha has a new coach, Bassett has a nice facility and Duarte hasn’t won a game since 2008. All three teams figure to reside in the lower half of the Montview.

The Giants took some strides last year by winning four games but Coach David Fleming stepped down after the season. If Ganesha, probably the best of the three, can win one more game and finish at .500 that would be a huge accomplishment.

Duarte is still recovering from the Wardell Crutchfield firing three years ago. As good as a coach as Tip Sanders is, the Falcons still need divine intervention.

Projected order of finish: 1. Azusa – Coach Joe Scherf 2.
