{"id":17909,"date":"2011-09-03T00:25:49","date_gmt":"2011-09-03T07:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=17909"},"modified":"2011-09-03T12:14:33","modified_gmt":"2011-09-03T19:14:33","slug":"alhambra-47-mt-view-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=17909","title":{"rendered":"Moor, Moor, Moors!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17953\" style=\"width: 479px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC_0060.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17953\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17953        \" title=\"DSC_0060\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC_0060.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17953\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View&#39;s Ignacio Castanada tries to spring past Alhambra&#39;s Jeremy Maresca (#4) &amp; Justin Baeza (#22).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>(Alhambra)- The Alhambra Moors jumped out to a 27-0 lead in the first quarter and led 40-0 near the end of the second when they took a knee to stop the bleeding.\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We got all the bounces tonight,&#8221; said Alhambra HC Lou Torres.\u00a0 &#8220;That kind of stuff makes things easy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Moors had little trouble making things look easy in a 47-7 victory over Mountain View on Friday night at Moor Field.<\/p>\n<p>With 8:22 to play in the first quarter, after View turned the ball over on downs, \u00a0Anthony Ortega scored on a 52-yard run.<\/p>\n<p>The Vikings turned the ball the ball over on their next possession and Alhambra quarterback Josh Mendoza converted it into an 8-yard scoring run.<\/p>\n<p>On the first play following the kick-off Moor defensive lineman Javier Covarrubias took a fumbled football after one bounce off the turf and returned it 44-yards for a touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>On the first play after the next kick-off Demetrius Russell intercepted a Josh Martinez pass and returned\u00a0 it 50-yards for another touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>And before you could say Gil Ruedaflores it was 27-0 Alhambra.<\/p>\n<p>Russell wasn&#8217;t done as he opened the second quarter scoring with a 71-yard punt return&#8230;and before you could say Adam Tate it was 33-0 Moors.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the quarter Mendoza found tight end Nathan Quinones for a short score in the end zone.<\/p>\n<p>Before the first half ended Alhambra was knocking on the door again, but Torres with a 40-0 advantage took a knee to run out the clock.<\/p>\n<p>Mountain View took possession of the football seven times in the first half:<\/p>\n<p>First: Turnover on downs<\/p>\n<p>Second: Fumble.<\/p>\n<p>Third: Fumble returned for touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth: Interception returned for touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth: Punt.<\/p>\n<p>Sixth: Punt.<\/p>\n<p>Seventh: Fumble.<\/p>\n<p>The Vikings&#8217; double-wing attack, that produced a 5-5 record in 2010, was constantly blown off the the line scrimmage by the Moor defenders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought our defensive line did a great job,&#8221; said Torres. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t sleep well last night because I knew what they (Mt. View) could do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the second half, with the dogs called off, the teams traded touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Alhambra&#8217;s Jessie Campos scored on an 11-yard run.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17964\" style=\"width: 508px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC_0069.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17964\" class=\"size-large wp-image-17964   \" title=\"DSC_0069\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC_0069-1024x674.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sometimes it seemed Ignacio Castanada (in the center), and the rest of the View backs, were carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders against the Moors<\/p><\/div>\n<p>View finally cracked the scoreboard with 6:26 to play when quarterback Josh Martinez went two-yards to Jose Gonzalez.<\/p>\n<p>With victory secured in the first half, Alhambra Defensive Coordinator Jacob Ochoa was put out with his troops for not holding onto the shutout.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wanted it!&#8221; He said to them after coming down to the sideline. &#8220;I wanted it!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Next week Ochoa&#8217;s defense gets La Canada at home while Mt.
