Last week the Panthers managed just three field goals in a loss to Montebello. Rowland opened with a win but was humbled last week by Cal.<\/p>\n<p>If the Panthers can do anything on offense, the defense can provide a way to win. It looks like a rebuilding year for Craig Snyder and the Raiders.<\/p>\n<p>Rosemead 17 Rowland 14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alhambra<\/strong><strong> (2-0) at Temple City (0-1) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year: Alhambra 20-14 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>All-Time: Temple City 12-7 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bloggers are blowing up the Moors. Some think we have them too high, one guy thought we have them too low. I think we have them just right. They have an efficient quarterback in Josh Mendoza and a solid runner in Ezra Broadus. Chris Caraveo anchors a sold defense.<\/p>\n<p>Temple City\u2019s O-line did a good job last week. The Rams\u2019 problem was they just couldn\u2019t stop Steven Rivera. Given time quarterback Mikal Quintanilla and TC will be fine.<\/p>\n<p>Moors should be at least a touchdown better.<\/p>\n<p>Alhambra 24 Temple City 14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday September 16<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Montebello<\/strong><strong> (2-0) at Arroyo (2-0) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year: Arroyo 12-8 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>11-16-2001: Montebello 27-14 \u2013 CIF Playoffs First Round <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s another Mission Valley League opponent for Montebello. The Oilers started off well last week with a 20-9 win over Rosemead. Matt Saenz led the way with 10 of 14 completions.<\/p>\n<p>Rosemead didn\u2019t score a touchdown. Arroyo quarterback Steven Rivera threw for six last week. Montebello will have a hard time finding an answer.<\/p>\n<p>Arroyo 31 Montebello 14<\/p>\n<p><strong>Covina<\/strong><strong> (1-1) at El Monte (1-1) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year: Covina 31-0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2009: Covina 13-0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lions haven\u2019t scored in two years against Covina. The good news is the offense behind Brandon Martinez has been proficient this year. El Monte put up 43 two weeks ago on Baldwin Park and scored 21 last week in a loss to La Puente.<\/p>\n<p>Covina took out its frustrations last week on Gladstone. Gevontray Ainsworth, Billy Livingston and Vinny Venegas were in a groove.<\/p>\n<p>The Lions will score but they won\u2019t win.<\/p>\n<p>Covina 34 El Monte 13<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sierra Vista<\/strong><strong> (0-1) at Mt. View (1-1) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year: Sierra Vista 10-7 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Dons and Giovanni Rivera were stopped cold last week by Salesian. Mt. View got off the floor with a win over Bassett. Last year Rivera ran wild in a close win over the Vikes. That will be the Mt. View\u2019s main objective all night- shut down Giovanni.<\/p>\n<p>It could come down to the wire again. Rivera will get his yards but the Vikes need to at least contain him to keep it close. Ignacio Casteneda is running well for the View. Sierra Vista wins in the fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Sierra Vista 14 Mt. View 10<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monrovia<\/strong><strong> (1-0) at Arcadia (0-1) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year: Monrovia 37-7 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2009: Monrovia 27-13 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the game of the week. The best team in the Mid-Valley squares off with one of the top five teams in the Southeast. Monrovia trailed early but turned it on in the second half to beat Glendora. Arcadia led early but lost it late to St. Frank\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of matchups here \u2013 The Arcadia O-Line vs. Ellis McCarthy, Taylor Lagace vs. Anthony Craft\/ Monrovia secondary and fourth year Coach Ryan Maddox matching wits with the experienced Jon Dimalante.<\/p>\n<p>Arcadia has the heart, I just don\u2019t know if they have the speed. They have the guts, I just don\u2019t know if they have the strength. Monrovia has it all. Note to Apaches: get the ball to Lagace early and often. But it still might not be enough.<\/p>\n<p>Monrovia 27 Arcadia 20<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Salle (0-2) at San Marino (0-1) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year: San Marino 48-6 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2009: San Marino 35-13 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>San Marino raised some eyebrows in week one with a rout of Eagle Rock. La Salle has played two solid Mid-Valley opponents but came away empty both times.<\/p>\n<p>A healthy Kwame Do is rolling for the Titans. Rachel Albright is having a kick of the Lancers. Titans get their second win.<\/p>\n<p>San Marino 24 La Salle 17<\/p>\n<p><strong>San Dimas<\/strong><strong> (1-1) at San Gabriel (1-1) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First Meeting <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Saints were back in the groove last week in a rout of Azusa. Despite the Zero Week loss to Bonita, everybody knew the Saints would get it going -too much talent and good coaching not to.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Alvarez is back behind center for San Gabriel and it worked last week in a win over South Pas. Will it work against a tougher, stronger San Dimas D?<\/p>\n<p>Also can San Gabriel\u2019s offense stop Shawn Kennedy and the high powered Saint offense?<\/p>\n<p>Both teams can score. The stat keepers will get a workout. San Dimas will score more.<\/p>\n<p>San Dimas 35 San Gabriel 28<\/p>\n<p><strong>Azusa<\/strong><strong> (0-1) at Maranatha (2-0) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interesting match up here. Maranatha is a rising star in the Mid-Valley with a very talented quarterback in Andrew Elffers. Azusa has owned the Montview the last few years but needs to get over the hump come playoff time.<\/p>\n<p>Azusa looked vulnerable last week in a loss to San Dimas. Elffers had a rough night despite a win over La Salle.<\/p>\n<p>These two could meet again in the playoffs. Maranatha wins the first one.<\/p>\n<p>Maranatha 28 Azusa 17<\/p>\n<p><strong>Los Altos<\/strong><strong> (2-0) at Wilson (0-2) &#8211; The Wheel <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year: Wilson 33-10 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bitter rivalry continues as these two teams battle for \u201cThe Wheel.\u201d When the season started most people thought it would be Los Altos that was seeking its first win and not the other way around. The Conquerors are undefeated while Wilson is still on the outside looking in.<\/p>\n<p>It was a struggle last year for both teams and they both have new head coaches trying to kick start things.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson has the talent. It\u2019s just a matter of putting it all together. Los Altos is beginning the first game of a tough three game stretch.
