Lozano took the hand-off from Drew Castro, found a seem and worked his way into the endzone from 16-yards away. The point after failed but Cal the early lead

Montebello wrestled the lead from the Condors with a little over four minutes left in the first half. Oiler quarterback Matthew Saenz found George Romo deep down the middle for 46-yards and a score. It would be the last and only time that the Oilers got a sniff of the endzone as the Condor defense shut Montebello out the rest of the game.

With time running out in the second period, the Cal took the lead back. A five play 64-yard drive was highlighted by a Castro to Lozano 43-yard touchdown pass that worked to perfection off the play-action fake.

Both defenses tightened up and held the opposing offenses off the scoreboard in the third quarter with the Oilers blocking two field goal attempts trying to keep the score close.

With 10:41 left in the final frame the Condors got back on the board going 52-yards in four plays capped by a 22-yard strike from Castro to Ethan Martinez. Castro finished the night a perfect five for five for 100-yards and two touchdowns.

Cal was back in business when they pounced on a Saenz fumble at the Montebello 41. Six plays later it was Justin Dankert getting the call from one yard out. Dankert had a solid night as well carrying the ball 10 times for 78-yards and the lone touchdown.

Also getting in on the ground game were Lawrence Gomez with nine carries for 32-yards and Aaron Garcia with eight for 25.

After the game Cal Head Coach Jim Arnold expressed mixed emotions about his teams performance. “I’m happy but I’m a perfectionist so I’m never going to be completely happy. Defensively we shut them down but offensively we made too many mistakes. Like I just told them we are not going to with league playing like we are. We have the potential to be a great team but right now we’re just an okay team.”

(Montebello) The California Condors got a solid performance from Gabriel Lozano and increased their non-league record to 4-1 with a resounding 28-7 win on the road against the Montebello Oilers Friday night.

[3

post-18860","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-high-school-sports
["GET
