Last week the Wildcats started on what should be a six game winning streak. Blake Heyworth looks like he is now the full time quarterback and along with weapons like De’Shawn Ramirez and Luke Williams Monrovia will score some points.

La Canada may hang around for a quarter or so but after that it will be all M-Town. For Schurr it’s a chance for a fresh start.

The Spartans haven’t just been beat; they’ve been pummeled into submission. They’ve been shut out three times and have only scored 20 points through the first five games. The schedule has been brutal but it’s a schedule that Schurr has dealt with in the past.

Schurr should be better now that league is here. But Bell Gardens is a tough way to begin the Almont. Lancers win a nail biter.

Bell Gardens 20 Schurr 17

Montebello (2-3) at San Gabriel (1-4)

Last Year: Montebello 27-26

The Oilers have lost their last three after winning their first two. Montebello beat the Panthers 20-9 while Mead beat SG 31-21.

Montebello has had trouble scoring at times while San Gabriel has had difficulty stopping people. The Oilers beat San Gabriel last year and they are improved this season. Rosemead needs to keep pace with Arroyo and put themselves in a position for a possible league title or second place berth. The Lions want to show that they, and not Rosemead, are a viable contender for the crown.

Rosemead has established a running game with Matt Eddy. He has rushed for over 300 yards in the last two weeks. Expect the Panthers to continue to pound it against El Monte.

Brandon Martinez has done a terrific job leading the Lions and is a threat to pass or run the ball. The Lions have shut out their last two opponents.

Rosemead should do what it does best – run the ball and play defense. El Monte will need to stop the run and make some big plays offensively.

It could come down to a turnover in the fourth quarter. They have scored 28 points or more in four of their five games.

Gabrielino’s three victories have come against lesser opponents. Village needs to establish the run with Amjed Aboul-hosn, grab the lead and control the clock. If that happens it could be a long night for Valley. The Rams however have a lot of things to work on to make that happen.
