Number 21 for Burroughs is running back Zander Anding. “But we didn’t have to worry about that. I’m sorry they weren’t at full strength but that’s football.”

Anding was in street clothes mending a partially collapsed lung.

“We didn’t know what it was at the beginning of the week,” said Burroughs HC Keith Knoop. “We thought he might have had a cracked rib, but it turned out to be a partially collapsed lung. The kid tried to get his mom to write a note so he could play.” Knoop just smiled to relay that wasn’t happening.

What also wasn’t happening was the Burroughs offense. Knoop’s search for back up to Anding’s back up (Israel Montes was banged up early and finally left in the second half with an ankle injury) and a quarterback he could stick with. Eli Pepmuller and Brad Hunt rotated for most of the night. The effect was zero points and frustration.

After a scoreless first quarter Muir broke through with 9:12 to play in the second when freshman quarterback Darrick Holmes went 7-yards to Kevon Seymour.

Not satisfied with just struggling on offense Burroughs did the equivalent of heaping burning coals on its head by coughing the ball on the ensuing kick-off.

Six plays after taking the ball at the Indians 19 Denzel Talifero powered his way in from 3-yards to make it 14-0 Mustangs.

Knoop began reaching for his blood pressure medicine.

Keyed my a 20-yard Montes run Burroughs reached the Muir 40 before turning the ball over on downs. This worked out fine because three plays later the Mustangs punted it right back.

With the ball at their own 24, Indians quarterback Hunt rolled right, fired toward the sideline but Tarien Owens jumped the rout and returned it 27-yards for a 21-0 Muir lead at the break.

In the fourth Owens added a 23-yard scoring run to the close the scoring.

On the defensive side of the ball Talifero and Clayton lived in the Burroughs backfield. The deepest Keith Knoop’s team was able to set up shop in Mustang territory was at the 30 following a fumble recovery but following series came to naught. In eleven offensive possessions (not counting the fumbled kick-off return) the Indians punted the ball six times, turned it over four times, and gave up the pick/six to Owens.

“We played a good game tonight,” said Mitchell. “We took advantage of our opportunities, Charles Clayton was terrific on defense. I noticed after watching film of the Glendale game that our football IQ seems to have soared, I’m hoping we can continue it.”

(Pasadena)- With the warm smell of colitas DEFINITELY rising up in the air, Muir’s Tarien Owens scored twice, Denzel Talifero and Charles Clayton were all over on defense, and Burroughs’ Zander Anding didn’t play as the Mustangs beat the Indians 28-0 at Horrell Field on Friday night.

[3
6366,5082,6365,6364,6367,2110
post-19565","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-high-school-sports","tag-burroughs-indians-football","tag-denzel-talifero","tag-muir-mustang-football","tag-tarien-owens","tag-tony-claxton","tag-zander-anding
["GET
