<\/a>DeShawn Ramirez lead Monrovia to the Mid Valley Finals<\/p><\/div>\n
(Covina) –\u00a0Blake Heyworth threw three\u00a0touchdown passes and De’Shawn Ramirez scored three times to lead Monrovia to a 41-27 win over Covina Friday night in the Mid-Valley Division Semi Finals.<\/p>\n
Monrovia\u00a0scored on its first three possessions\u00a0and was on the Covina four yard line\u00a0when time ran out in the first half.\u00a0Heyworth completed 16 of 29 passes for\u00a0234 yards and\u00a0three scores. Ramirez caught touchdown strikes of ten and\u00a026 yards.<\/p>\n
“We couldn’t stop them in the first half. We only stopped them twice,” said Covina Coach Darryl Thomas. “You can’t do that against a good team like Monrovia.”<\/p>\n
Covina scored on its first series marching\u00a080 yards on 11 plays.\u00a0Andrew\u00a0Carrillo caught a 19 yard touchdown strike from Billy Livingston. Monrovia bounced right back to get even. Marquise Bias capped a 71 yard drive with nine yard touchdown run.<\/p>\n
After Covina was forced to punt\u00a0Monrovia moved down the field again scored on a ten yard strike from Heyworth to Ramirez.<\/p>\n
Vinny Venegas got the Colts even in the second half\u00a0finishing an 80 yard drive\u00a0with an 11 yard run.<\/p>\n
The Colts were stopped on thier next two possessions and Monrovia took full advantage.\u00a0Ramirez scored on a ten yard\u00a0run and Anthony Craft hauled in a 12 yard TD toss from Heyworth for a 27-14 halftime advantage.<\/p>\n
Midway through the third quarter,\u00a0after Covina was unable to\u00a0move the ball on its first two series Monrovia plunged in the dagger. Monrovia kept a drive alive\u00a0when Mason Bryant ran for 19 yards and a first down\u00a0off of\u00a0 fake punt.\u00a0Heyworth then connected with Ramirez again\u00a0– this time for 26 yards on\u00a0a play\u00a0that Ramirez made a rolling catch into the endzone for\u00a0a 26 yard touchdown. Pass interference was called on the play but Ramirez still made the play. A 34-14 deficit was too tough of a hill for Covina to climb.<\/p>\n
Carillo and Justin Mason both caught touchdown passes from Livingston\u00a0in the fourth quarter but\u00a0it was too little too late.<\/p>\n
“We moved the ball well on offense and we really proved ourselves tonight,” said Monrovia Coach Ryan Maddox.<\/p>\n
Ramirez provides Maddox with several different options. He\u00a0caught three passes for 43 yards and two scores and rushed\u00a0for 33 yards and the touchdown. Oh and he also threw\u00a0a pass\u00a0to George Frazier for 42 yards.<\/p>\n
Covina went down firing. Livingston threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Carrillo caught six passes for 63 yards and two scores. Mason hauled in seven receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n
“We’re definitely disappointed. Our goal was a championship.\u00a0But I’m proud of the kids.\u00a0They won a league title and went to the semi finals,” Thomas added.<\/p>\n
The Colts went undefeated in the Valle Vista and finished 11-2 overall.<\/p>\n
M-Town will play the winner of San Gabriel-San Dimas\u00a0Saturday night.<\/p>\n
