{"id":23472,"date":"2012-04-16T21:24:15","date_gmt":"2012-04-17T04:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=23472"},"modified":"2017-06-10T10:52:10","modified_gmt":"2017-06-10T17:52:10","slug":"rivera-picks-the-poets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=23472","title":{"rendered":"Rivera Picks the Poets"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_21671\" style=\"width: 383px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21671\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21671\" title=\"Steven Rivera MVP\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/DSC_0142-373x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"373\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21671\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Arroyo&#39;s Steven Rivera is heading to Whittier College<\/p><\/div>\n<p>(El Monte) &#8211; Arroyo quarterback Steven Rivera\u00a0has committed to play\u00a0football for Whittier College\u00a0this year Coach\u00a0Jim Singiser confirmed Monday.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Rivera, a four year starter\u00a0for the Knights, just finished a\u00a0senior season in which he threw for over 3400 yards and\u00a038 touchdowns with just five interceptions.\u00a0He completed\u00a0246 of 380 passes for a percentage of .647 and a quarterback rating of\u00a0121.<\/p>\n<p>Rivera also\u00a0played safety for Arroyo\u00a0and had 36 tackles and assisted on\u00a028 others but he is\u00a0going to Whittier as a quarterback.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s huge for\u00a0us. He is a kid we can build the program around,&#8221; said Whittier assistant Ted Clarke. &#8220;Remember\u00a0how he came in as a\u00a0freshman at Arroyo with Jim (Singiser)\u00a0and now you see him four years later and how much he has progressed. We&#8217;re hoping for the same thing at Whittier.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m so happy for the kid,&#8221; Singiser said. &#8220;He is everything you would want in a player. He makes people better on campus. He makes people better in the classroom.
