Did you know that Marcus Valenzuela has emerged as the\u00a0number one\u00a0guy at quarterback for San Gabriel?\u00a0Eric Alvarez saw time last year before\u00a0Andy Guerrero was named the starter and\u00a0Mikal Quintanilla has transferred in from Temple City.\u00a0But despite all that it’s Valenzuela who has moved to the forefront San Gabriel\u00a0HC Jude Oliva confirmed.<\/p>\n

Azusa Junior QB\/WR Carlos Montiel<\/p><\/div>\n

Arroyo HC Jim Singiser\u00a0is high on junior WR Jose Valdivia. Valdivia played linebacker for the Knights last year but will be lining up the opposite side of\u00a0Andre Kerkhoff this year at receiver. “He’s the one guy\u00a0on offense,\u00a0(along with Peter (Aholoka)\u00a0that you don’t want to mess with.\u00a0He doesn’t like to be pushed around. He won’t put up with it. He’s a tough kid,” Singiser said.<\/p>\n

Azusa’s Carlos Montiel\u00a0got plenty of\u00a0snaps behind center. Among other things,\u00a0he’s extremely mobile.\u00a0“We’re probably going to platoon him\u00a0and Jose\u00a0Ledesma.\u00a0They both different things well.\u00a0And when I play\u00a0Jose at quarterback I can put Carlos at receiver whee he’s very effective,”\u00a0said Azusa HC Joe\u00a0Scherf.<\/p>\n

Keep an eye on Aztec tight end\u00a0Josh Dillon, 6-0, 190. “He’s good and he’s got good size\u00a0but he’s got to learn to just stop running over people\u00a0in passing league,” Scherf said.<\/p>\n

Alex Villalobos and Steven Rivera,\u00a02011\u00a0stars of San Gabriel and Arroyo\u00a0respectively were on hand\u00a0to check out the action. Rivera who is going to Whittier College in the Fall, had some news\u00a0on Villalobos who is headed to ELAC.\u00a0 “Alex will be joining me\u00a0at\u00a0Whittier in two years. Just watch,” he said.\u00a0Villalobos’s response? “Oh yeah,”\u00a0he said with a smile.<\/p>\n
