“We’re just\u00a0making a lot of mistakes today,” said San Gabriel Coach Jude Oliva. “You know, you lose some of those\u00a0three year starters and it just kills you. But we’ll be all right.”<\/p>\n

“I think we’re playing well defensively\u00a0but offensively we’re struggling a little bit,” said Whittier Christian HC Sergio Gradilla. “You know\u00a0it’s a lot different out there without Cody (Bronkar).\u00a0He’ll\u00a0be back when we start two- a days in early August.”<\/p>\n

“Hey I really liked that Fourth of July stuff you guys\u00a0posted\u00a0yesterday,”\u00a0said Whittier Christian OL Coach\u00a0Bruce Wallace. “I don’t know…that really hit\u00a0me. Great!” I inquired about his son Ryan\u00a0– former Heralds center. “He’s at TCU now.\u00a0He’s going to walk on. He had a lot of different choices\u00a0but he ended up at TCU. I don’t know if he’ll play but he’s going to walk on.”<\/p>\n

“We weren’t bad but we have a lot of work to do,” said Karavedas at the end of the day.<\/p>\n

“You know I saw\u00a0San Gabriel’s\u00a0receiver from last year (Alex Villalobos)\u00a0on film. That kid can play.\u00a0He could definitely get a scholarship somewhere,”\u00a0added Owens.<\/p>\n

“Jack Huitt has been playing well for us. He looks really solid,” added Gardilla.\u00a0“Oh yeah Huitt is going to be great,” added Karavedas.<\/p>\n

“Hey we’ve never played San Gabriel before,”\u00a0Arcadia HC Chris Long joked\u00a0as he lined up\u00a0against SG for seemingly the 30th time this summer.<\/p>\n

“You know\u00a0we used to get down when\u00a0one or two plays didn’t go our way but that team never did,” Wallace said of the\u00a02010 Whittier Christian team that went to the CIF Finals.\u00a0“They would just shrug it off and keep on going. It was just a great, great group of kids.”<\/p>\n
