SGV Shootout Champions – West Covina Bulldogs<\/p><\/div>\n

(El Monte) – West Covina\u00a0beat Northview 30-18 to win the SGV Shootout at Arroyo Saturday.\u00a0The Bulldogs,\u00a0not traditionally a passing team, knocked off Monrovia in the semi finals before dispatching of Northview. Monrovia\u00a0beat Whittier Christian in the consolation game.<\/p>\n

West Covina’s Antonio “Noodles” Hull<\/p><\/div>\n

The Bulldogs used both Antonio “Noodles” Hull and Jon Najera\u00a0at quarterback but it was Najera\u00a0who got the majority of the snaps\u00a0in the semi final against Monrovia and in the Final.\u00a0Skill players like\u00a0Aaron Franklin\u00a0and Deshon Love made big catches\u00a0through out the day – specifically Franklin\u00a0who made\u00a0special plays\u00a0all day.<\/p>\n

Monrovia QB Blake Heyworth<\/p><\/div>\n

For Northview\u00a0Quarterback Victor Garcia continues to impress.\u00a0He led the Vikings\u00a0all the way to the finals before they succumbed to West Covina.\u00a0Northview lost only one game prior to the final. Javon Taylor was big on both sides of the ball.<\/p>\n

Monrovia was led by the usual suspects,\u00a0Blake Heyworth, Mason Bryant, Anthony Craft, George Frazier,\u00a0Brett Walsh…etc. The Cats\u00a0seemed to be in control with a lead over West Covina\u00a0before the\u00a0Bulldogs came back\u00a0late to pull it out.<\/p>\n

Northview QB Victor Garcia<\/p><\/div>\n

Alhambra won two\u00a0of its first three before falling to Maranatha. The Moors despite losing\u00a0their\u00a0returning quarterback to transfer,\u00a0continue to get better\u00a0with Mando Amaya behind center.\u00a0Essien Frank and Sebastian Espinoza played well too.<\/p>\n

Rosemead’s Aaron Flores<\/p><\/div>\n

The Minutemen will always compete with Andrew Elffers throwing the ball. Maranatha won its first\u00a0two\u00a0before falling to Gladstone.\u00a0Gladstone, behind Kevin Amezquita,\u00a0also put it to Rosemead\u00a0earlier in the day and was playing well.<\/p>\n

Victor Ambruzo’s Vikes won their first four games<\/p><\/div>\n

The Gladiators were disqualified however\u00a0along with Azusa\u00a0when a fight broke out bewteen the two teams late in the afternoon. Words were exchanged, along with shoves and a couple of punches before order could be restored.\u00a0The two are rivals\u00a0in the Montview League\u00a0and in fact they both play on the same field – Citrus College, which could have been a factor in the\u00a0brawl. Arroyo HC Jim Singiser disqaulified both teams but indicated that they could return next year.<\/p>\n

The Double Wing<\/p><\/div>\n

Mt. View\u00a0was the surprise of the tournament winning its first three games before losing\u00a0to Northview. Xavier Yanez was pulling the trigger for the Vikes in HC Victor Ambruzo’s double wing offense.<\/p>\n

Nick Bueno and Jacob Bueno…If Nick wasn’t wearing the Cal Lu shirt could you tell them apart?<\/p><\/div>\n

“The Kids were really excited\u00a0and pumped up.\u00a0We were playing well,” Ambruzo said.<\/p>\n

Temple City QB Anthony Valencia…like the headgear<\/p><\/div>\n

Got a chance to meet\u00a0former NFL star Ron Brown who\u00a0is now an assistant at Diamond Bar…nice guy.<\/p>\n

The Warriors came out to play aaay!<\/p><\/div>\n

Anthony White’s Buena Park Coyotes were there but didn’t make\u00a0the run they did last year. “We’re young but physical,” White said.<\/p>\n

Temple City competed\u00a0hard early and took D-Bar to OT\u00a0before\u00a0falling short. Anthony Valencia has stepped up at starting quarterback with the transfer of Michal\u00a0Quintanilla to San Gabriel. “I like our group of kids.\u00a0We have probably 90\u00a0kids from our freshman\u00a0to the varsity so I’m happy about that,”\u00a0said TC Coach Mike MacFarland. “But this really isn’t what were going to do\u00a0(passing). We’re going to run the ball.<\/p>\n

Walsh…Brett Walsh<\/p><\/div>\n

Pat Ahhing, long time line coach\u00a0for Rosemead is now\u00a0calling the offense. “Football is football\u00a0so it’s really not a big difference,” Ahhing said. “I just wish one of our quarterbacks would step up and take the job.” The Panthers have been looking at\u00a0Everado Camacho,\u00a0Adan Guillen and\u00a0Macias all summer.<\/p>\n

Temple City WR\/DB Kasmir Khaliq…and the headgear<\/p><\/div>\n

Arroyo, the host, went out early as did Bonita\u00a0and Workman. Arcadia won two games\u00a0early before being\u00a0eliminated in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

La Puente\u00a0has been a frequent\u00a0player on the passing circuit\u00a0with Ivan Vasquez running the show.\u00a0Brandon Roher’s Warriors had a heated game with Mt. View in the afternoon but\u00a0Vikings untimately prevailed.<\/p>\n
