(Claremont) \u2013 16 teams showed up at Claremont High School Saturday to compete in the Wolfpack Challenge. When it was all over Charter Oak had knocked off host Claremont in the championship game.<\/p>\n

The Chargers have two quarterbacks competing for the job vacated by Travis Santiago, who is now at Azusa Pacific. Kory Brown returns from last year and Bishop Amat transfer Ross Barrera.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrown probably throws the better ball but they’re competing,\u201d said Charter Oak HC Lou Farrar.<\/p>\n

Farrar also pointed out a couple of other players. \u201cDonavin Washington (DB) is maybe our best athlete and Aaren Vaughns (WR), well they don’t come better than him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Farrar spent the day on the sidelines filming the action while his son Dominic ran the offense. \u201cI take the summers off. I have enough football coaches to choke a horse,\u201d Farrar joked.<\/p>\n

Bishop Amat Failed to make the Championship Round<\/p><\/div>\n

La Serna and Frankie Palmer were impressive throughout the day. Palmer made all the throws, short, long and in between, in a win over South Torrance earlier in the day. Palmer led the Lancers to the Southeast Division last year.<\/p>\n

South Torrance returns quarterback Kyle Nesbit but may need help elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Muir has plenty of players at the skill positions<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cWe’re really young in all areas,\u201d said HC Josh Waybright. \u201cKyle is still working on some things but he’s our starter. But we lost our whole offensive line as well as some skill position players.<\/p>\n

Waybright is entering his 10th<\/sup> season as the coach of the Spartans contrary to the information on Max Preps. Max Preps, who does a great job, has Chris Hyduke as the HC.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, he’s my DC. They missed that but that’s ok,\u201d Waybright said.<\/p>\n

Alhambra expected to get Lawndale in the first game but got Charter Oak instead. Moors HC Joe Kanach held out two starters for missing a practice and the Chargers made them pay.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, they spanked us pretty good but we bounced back to beat Lawndale,\u201d Kanach said.<\/p>\n

There was some confusion as to which Burroughs was at Claremont. It was Burroughs Ridgecrest. Burroughs Burbank was a the Santa Fe Tourney.<\/p>\n

Bishop Amat needed a pick at the end to beat El Rancho. Amat, who is still looking to replace the graduated Rio Ruiz, failed to make the championship round.<\/p>\n

The reports of Muir’s death have been greatly exaggerated. Mustang quarterback Joshua-muema Washington looked solid and as usual Muir had plenty of skill position players. The Stangs will be fine in the Pacific.<\/p>\n
