(Arcadia) \u2013 Rio Hondo Prep left no doubts as to who is\u00a0the best team in the area\u00a0as it\u00a0completely dominated Arcadia from the word \u201cgo\u201d\u00a0in a non-league contest Friday night.
\nThe Kares roughed up the already beleaguered Apaches to the tune of 29-7 as its defense didn\u2019t allow a first down until 1:06 remained in the first half.
\nMost of Arcadia\u2019s woes can be attributed to being outplayed in the trenches as Rio Hondo Prep\u2019s rushing attack was given some big holes from its lineman to finish the night with 255 yards rushing led by Isaac Holguin\u2019s 111 yards.
\nEarly on it looked like two prize-fighters trying to feel their way around the ring as they traded blows but none really landing.
\nThat was until midway through the second quarter as Colby Rivera found Christian Torrico on a seam route for a 42-yard touchdown pass to open up the scoring for the Kares.
\nAs the Rio Hondo Prep offense began to click, the Apaches stuttered and faltered at every turn in the first half. Arcadia\u2019s offense had\u00a0five straight three and outs\u00a0while the Kares began to put together time-eating drives to shorten the game.
\nOn its subsequent possession after forcing the Apaches to punt for the fifth consecutive time, Rio Hondo took advantage of a short field and scored on Nate Tayco\u2019s 5-yard run.
\nArcadia continued to keep it close, but the lack of an offensive drive hurt any of their chances to keep its defense fresh as the Kares essentially put it\u00a0away with 4:08 remaining in the game as Rivera hooked up with Ryan Wiley on a short pass that resulted in a 13-yard touchdown pass to give Rio Hondo a 22-0 lead.
\nWith time winding down, the Apaches finally mustered\u00a0up a drive on the final plays\u00a0that ended on Sheldon McKinley\u2019s four-yard score to help end the night on a positive note.
